ok i'm really confused by something going on at my school. People are running around wearing basically the same thing and then saying they are oh so different from everyone else i mean the all act the same like the same things and dress and eat every thing is tthe same its like a hall of clones! i have never really gone with any trend at my school oh sure i've liked some of the stuff and gone with it but i have never really gotten into it. so one day i saw a leather cuff braclet with metal studs in it and i bought it and went to school. i get there and everyone thinks i'm a freak for wearing one?????
i didn't get it. then to make things even more confusing the next week half the school (AT LEAST) has leather cuff braclets with metal studs in it !!! what is going on here!! this was a while ago now i dress however i want and no follwing trends or styles people thought i was weird at first and now a few ppl (my friends) all wear what they want to wear and since we do so we are considered losers. A sophmore at my school confided in me that she wanted to be able to be her own person but she dosen't want to be called a loser for doing so and thats why she dresses just like everyone else!

so wheres the creativeness teens are supposed to have and do people just wear clothes they don't like just to fit in?? i mean whats so big about being popular??????

I think my school is strange or something, because being weird is normal here. Everyone here is a walking cliche - goth, skater, punk, geek, etc. There 'normal' people are quite outnumbered here.

Just don't worry about it... it's high school. In ten years nobody is going to care about what 'group' they fit into.

[color=indigo]It is nothing to worry about at all. Just do what you want and do not care what other people think about it. That is pretty much what I do. For about a week I went to school everyday with pig tails. It was rather humorous to see people's reactions. One day I even took thin strips of paper and tied them around where the hair tie was. Yes, that was an interesting week. Though it is really too much effort every morning to put them in and make sure they are even. So I just do a pony tail. Much easier. When I wear things such as my padlock and chain around my neck, or whatever, people usually ask about them. Just shows how ignorant they are about things. Obviously people like them do not know enough about you to know why you do things, so when and if they make fun you, just know that they are only putting their own stupidity on display.[/color]

Once every two months, actually. It's always fun, because it's actually pretty interesting. One of my guyfriends [i]asked[/i] me to put up his hair in pigtails. His hair's pretty short, but it stil was pretty hard getting the rubber bands out. oO

At my old school, one of my best friends and I dumps bright red paint on our white overalls, and sorta hand-printed on them. ^_^;
The next day, we wore it to mix-match/the last day/carnival, with red/pink highlights in our hair, and it was pretty fun. ^_^;

We got third place for the seventh grade. First went to a guy that came as the school mascot. :blush:

I've always argued in favor of school uniforms. Typically people protest by saying that uniforms deprive individuals of their unique identity. With a smile, I say "Step in front of any classroom and it's obvious that people long to belong."

Your experiences illustrate this perfectly. Most people are conformists. They want to feel comfortable--they don't want to stand out. Rarely can I look at anyone and get a reasonable indication of who they are based on clothing. Sure, I can get a general idea, but most people dress similarly to one another. Even goth styles aren't really unique anymore; so many people have adopted them.

The best way to be your own person is by acting like yourself. It's that simple. Relying heavily on fashion to do that job just won't cut it. Just think about it. When you get out of school and into the real world, you'll likely be placed into an environment where are required to wear a uniform. People will idenitfy with you because of who you are. Teachers and employers will respect you because of how hard you work and how responsible you are.

I believe that it's great that you and your friends wear what makes you feel comfortable. The sophmore should do the same. The hell with people who don't accept you based on dress. They're superficial, ignorant and not worth impressing anyway. In the end, you'll earn the most valuable friends by being true to yourself and to others.

I don't really care what I wear, it just can't have sports on it.lol. Now you can tell if people at your school get D's and F's by when they say "Man g my clothes are hip, and da bomb". I hate people that talk like that. Grrr...

[color=orangered][size=1]In my opinion and through experience, these things are the worst for people in middle school (6th-8th grade) and in the 9th grade when you are trying to "fit in" and "find yourself."

When I was in middle school, I got picked on so bad because I didn't dress like everyone else. My family can't afford to go out and buy me outragous priced clothes just because they are name brand. I wore nerdy looking clothes and I never looked "cool" but I just put up with it.

I hit High School. Ninth grade was so tough because I couldn't figure out where I was. I tried to dress Goth, and all the Goths loved me and I had so many guys who thought I was so cool. Then I realized that I should just wear what I like, not to impress others, but to make myself feel good.

Now I just wear whatever I want, and being a Senior, you notice people who are a bit more mature could really care less about what you are wearing. And if I wear my Goth shirt one day and dress like a prep the next, doesn't make me necessarily either of those. I'm just Tori. And I'm happy just the way I am.

And that's what you've got to realize. People who care about images are just kidding themselves. Because after they get out of High School, what they wore isn't going to mean a thing.[/color][/size]

i know QA my parents can't afford tommy hilfiger and all of that junk ! i mean one pair of designer jeans cost like 60 bucks ! i just wear whatever i see first in the morning and if it happens to be my pajamas then so be it!

Anyway I've never really had many problems with people and how I dress. Back in 6th grade, I used to wear sweatpants to school when it was cold. One day someone told me I should just wear jeans because I looked like a dork... so since then I've worn jeans, and clothing hasn't been a big deal ever since.

I don't know how old anyone was when this happened... But back when I was like in 4th or 3rd grade, people used to wear hats and clothes and leave the price tags on. It is still the dumbest fasion trend I can think of. Thank god that's over.

I personally don't care to buy stuff at Gap, Abercrombie or whatever else... Mostly because most of their stuff has their name plastered all over it. I'd rather not pay to advertise for them. That and Gap has always bothered me. The child labor stuff a while back, the commercials and the way everything just looks the same.

At this point, I just by whatever I think looks good. I own more dressier expensive stuff like Perry Ellis or Nautica, but I tend to just wear jeans, band shirts, nicer sweaters and Converse Allstars. Nothing special. I own New Rock boots as well, but they are hardly something "nice." They have flames and metal all over them lol.

I've found that once you get out of highschool, a lot of the idiotic popularity stuff fades away dramatically. Sure it's still there, and some places more than others... But I've yet to have a problem or see anyone else have one.

In highschool there were uniforms, but it was just to wear dress clothes. There was still plenty of room to wear things that fit what you wanted. Even if I did get any crap from someone, it was rarely from anyone who's opinion I valued. I'd have to say that's pretty much the same for anyone. There aren't many people I'd be willing to try and change for, especially over something like that.

For two or three years, I'm pretty sure I wore nothing but browns and greens. There was this olive-green color that I just loved, and I would buy clothes--usually Kmart, or secondhand, because why the heck would I pay tons of money for [i]clothes[/i]?--that either were that green, or matched with it.

I don't remember why, but I did an 'inventory' of my clothes. I had something like twelve green or brown tops, a couple blue, a couple black, one red [for Christmas], and zero purple, orange, pink, or yellow.

This past spring, I fell in love with Orange...all of a sudden, I went from drab browns and greens to brilliant sunny bright oranges and reds. Heh. A day didn't go by when someone didn't compliment me on my clothes, which I thought was hilarious.

Now I wear whatever. I just got a ton of clothes from my aut [she was moving, and gave me a bunch of stuff she'd worn in college.] It all fits me, and it's so much fun. ^_^ I'm still fond of orange, too.

I wore a shirt spoofing Abercrombie [the brand of choice at school], and every time I walked into a classroom, I heard whispers suddenly stop. 'Did you see her?" "Sara's wearing and Abercrombie shirt!" Hardly anyone noticed it was a spoof, heh.

Everyone tries to do what's cool and what's in and therefore everyone ends up looking quite the same. It's horrifying really.

But there's also another side to this. Some people dress like others because when something does come in, it's all you can find in stores. I mean any store you go to, that's all there's going to be. It's hard to find something that everyone doesn't already have, no matter what store you go to: Sears, Hot Topic, Pac Sun, Abercrombie, Gap, Express. It doesn't matter.[/color][/size]

I wear what I think makes me look attractive. Notice the specific use of the pronouns [i]I[/i] and [i]me[/i]. When I wear clothes for that purpose I like the simple yet classy style, like gray or black dress pants and either a button-up or tight shirt. I wear this when I go off somewhere like on a date or something, or if I just feel like dressing up. Usually I lean towards "cute" and "pretty" feminine clothes because that's what I like. And now that I just thought of this, I'm going to rant for a sec:

WHY is it that all the band shirts that I like are so BIG?!! Don't they make youth sizes or smaller smalls... or something?! >_< I can't stand the 'babydoll' or 'cutesy' band shirts made for girls. That's not a band shirt. That's just another shirt. The guys' shirts always look better and have more of the band on it and rrrgh.... it just makes me mad. I would LIVE in band t-shirts if I could find some that don't hang off me like a table cloth. And nooo I don't want them tight ::blood vessel pops:: I just want the smalls to not be equivalent to larges on me. v_v Anyway, I've said my two cents on that...

Anywho, and then I'll wear whatever I feel like for school, outside running errands, like school shirts and jeans, sometimes pajama bottoms and slippers, just whatever's handy. I think my boyfriend has seen me in T-shirts more than the dressy stuff I talked about up there. Maybe I like dressing up so much because I don't do it very often. Hmm. And lastly, clothes are simply clothes. They keep ya from being naked and help insulate body heat. No big deal really.

I don't think my school makes as big a deal out of clothes as other schools. Personally, I really don't see how the type of clothes you wear puts you into a specified group of people. >.>

In any case, most people dress normally where I go. You don't see many gothic or punk type dressers, other than a small handfull.

But yeah, I agree that there is virtually no point in trying to impress others with the way you dress, since you'll be out of school in a few years and have worked so hard to impress other for nothing; no one will care.

I'll dress how I want to dress, and if you want to make a big deal out of it, that's your problem.

[color=deeppink]The funny thing about that statement is that there is also the other extreme. There are teens who dress "abnormally" so that they can go against the social grain. Granted, many people who wear clothes that are considered "not of the current popular fashion" do so because it's just their style, but I find it somewhat silly to do it just to mock popular fashion.

I admittingly follow fashion trends and have no qualms about it. I've always loved popular styles so I have no problem wearing them. I do steer clear of Abercrombie and American Eagle because I don't exactly want to be wearing the same thing as 10 other people [at least in high school it was that way], I'd rather make my own statements with current fashion spiced up with Jenna flair.
