Mnemolth
Originally posted by BabyGirl The funny thing about that statement is that there is also the other extreme. There are teens who dress "abnormally" so that they can go against the social grain. Granted, many people who wear clothes that are considered "not of the current popular fashion" do so because it's just their style, but I find it somewhat silly to do it just to mock popular fashion. I admittingly follow fashion trends and have no qualms about it. I've always loved popular styles so I have no problem wearing them. I do steer clear of Abercrombie and American Eagle because I don't exactly want to be wearing the same thing as 10 other people [at least in high school it was that way], I'd rather make my own statements with current fashion spiced up with Jenna flair. How many of you can honestly admit that you've never felt the need to follow fashion trends? ::realizes that people won't answer that honestly anyway:: Ah well :whoops:
 I can honestly say that. Tho I've had girlfriends trying to dress me up by buying me stuff. What is with that anyway? Why is it girls have this irresistable need to makeover a guy?? :p

PiroMunkie
I cannot honestly say that. I did. "Did" being the key word. Back in my younger days, like when I was in gradeschool. Always sharp. The razor's edge. Although I think you're cutting the wrong person's wrist in this case. ;) It was actually a rhetorical question, but since you've brought it up, I'd like to hear what others think. :) There are actually a couple of other reasons I can think of. One is quite similar to what Wrist Cutter said but not the same. Another is quite profound.

Kei
That's how it is at my high school. People are always wearing Abercrombie, Aéropostle, and all that other crap, trying to look cute, when they're grades suck like hell, and they know they need to be putting the money they have in clothes toward a tutor. It gets on my nerves. The way I see it, as long as you don't come out of the house naked and get arrested for indecent exposure, it's all gravy.
Queen Asuka
Hey, people, now tell me honestly, would you go out in public if you were wearing the ugliest grandma shirt that no one would be caught dead in? Nevermind, don't answer that, I know how some of you people are. I like to look good. I'm not going to lie. I will NOT wear something that I think is ugly. I wont even sit around the house in a T-shirt if I don't like what's on the T-shirt. Do I follow fashion trends? Only if I like them because I definately can't afford them. A big trend that's in right now is the shirts with the HUGE bell sleeves. Well let me tell you, I LOVE those shirts, okay? I have two of them and I'd have more if I could afford them. I like to look good! When I was little, I got picked on for looking like a dork. So now, I will do what I can to look good. It's only natural for a girl to want to look her best, I think. And that does not mean I'm following the crowd. Perhaps everyone is trying to just look good and just so happen to have the same taste. Wouldn't that be interesting.
Yu Yu Hakusho!
People are rude. That's it. Period. People that judge other people by what they wear are so immature and rude. I don't know what the problem is. If my school allowed it, I'd proably dye my hair blue and dress in a kimono......like Botan. Or not.....0_o

nezzyjean
You said it Stitch!! schools just confusing!! All the popular peeps are juat like Lemmings, they follow each other in styles AND choices. It's what our crappy society is all about, being afraid of being different. Well, if we were all different, then, it wouldn't be so weird!! So that's why I am not afraid, and I just be what I wanna be, do what I wanna do, and wear what I wanna wear, and there is nothing better to do, I think. Stitch
nah they arn't lemmings they are a wads of sheep ..... oh well i will never be popular but then again who really wants to be popular ....... being popular means you have to backstab your friends and act like ur oh so great and betterthen everyone else. i think me and my friends are not only hated because of the clothes we wear but also because we don't stand for getttin looked down apon if we don't like they way we are being treated then then we say sumthin about it ! i used to go around and pick fights with everyone who said i wasn't punk and my freind came up to me and asked me if i was going to fight the whole school and then i relized i was being pretty stupid and i started being myslef not a label. so the fact is clothes really are popularity........ stitch:(
Guest Lizzie
At my school, we have different trends. We have alot of people who don't care what people thing about them(that is the croud I fit in to), we also have alot of Preps at my school. I know people are supposed to have like their own trends and styles and stuff like that, but they all end up dressing alike.Personally, I fit better into the Goth group. I don't think I could ever dress like a prep.I think Goth clothes look way better than that, but that's my opinion.^_^

Fall
We have a uniform. Though people still find some way to be "hip-hop" around here. o.O ....the funny thing is, if you wear one thing out of line here, you get suspended for a week, like I was for wearing a necklace. Bleh. Uniforms stink.
Kent
Some how I manage to wear "nice" clothing from "preppy" companies, but I still always look desheveld and "bumish." Im thinking thats sorta nice simply because no one can tell who I am based on what Im wearing. I also think its an excellent idea to have uniforms, plus it gets all the girls into skirts... he he he. eleanor
Not saying that I am popular (I think I'd rather die), but why is there all these stereotypes about popular people? Have they really ever made fun of you or talked to you? Maybe some people think they're snotty or something because they don't talk to you. But hey, I never talk to them. I've never really quite got over the time when I was stuck in a class when lunch time was, and I sat at the corner of the table and a group of "popular" girls ignored me completely. I HATED them, but to tell the truth, I'm not exactly Ms.Oh I'm so nice lets talk and be friends. If I saw a lone popular kid I'd probably say "Hi" and never communicate with him/her again. So in truth, I WAS being a hypocrite. Yes, it's true in our school that the popular kids tend to like clothes and makeup, etc, but it doesn't mean that they're mean. And the clothes thing, why would you hate someone who had different tastes? I wear big t-shirts with freaky, non-humorous sayings on it, ans none of the popular kids made fun of me. (at least not to my face) If you're so ticked off about people going around talking about how wonderful their shirt is, don't talk to them. And of course, if they come up to you (heaven forbid) and talk....I have no positive advice.

kizu
Normally the most thought I put into getting dressed is "Are these jeans clean?" That is the only thing I worry about really. I just wear some t shirt (most likely from wal-mart) and a pair of jeans. I have 1 Aéropostle shirt and it has a hole in it. Cheap shirt, first day I wore the thing it ripped. Mostly I stick to walmart, or old navy. Old Navy is about the most expencive clothing I wear. I found out that I can get a nice ten dollar shirt at Old Navy, why spend a lot on Aéropostle when I like that ten dollar shirt. I have better things to with the 15 bucks more I would have spent on a lower quality shirt that says Aéropostle on it.
Guest Musahi
Originally posted by kizu Normally the most thought I put into getting dressed is "Are these jeans clean?"
I don't really even think that. :P I wear the closest pants to me. If I am wearing the pants from yesterday, it just makes getting dressed all the easier. Put some cologne on them and it's all good. My shirt however is picked out carefully. It needs to be dark, or have a logo I like on it. Like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or something. About the popilarity thing. I am on both sides, many of my friends are extremly popular while others have no other friends than I. That makes it really hard to throw a party. -_-

Anyway, I get really annoyed at that sort of thing now though. All my friends are either wearing fish net black pantyhose and black make-up and HUGE baggy pants with Aeropostle on the leg...espically the shirts. Erin was just wearing a Nine Inch Nails shirt the other day. Some people rip the sleves of their shirts and wear them like that (if you can picture that)....and of course, we can't forget the Vans sneakers and the old Converse that have come back. Also those damn Sketchers and Pumas.....hate to admit that I myself have a few pairs....^_^; You're in 8th? ......not saying anyting else....... I thought you were in high school. EDIT: What about the acid washed jeans? (now LOW rise....) I remember them back in the early 90's and all through the 80's, but they were NEVER low rise....(Actually, I wouldn't call today's low rise jeans "low rise".......I call then *** crack jeans....I mean, that's how they are!)......0_o........or not...... L.A. Rod.
I think that it has more to do with the genre you should belong too. It's suddenly my duty to be a part of the Hip-Hop crowd, and although most of my clothes are like this, it's only because I like the clothes. What I wear won't stop me from listening to Nirvana or Gorillas. Everything is so superficial that it's hard to truly be yourself. You have to walk, talk, and act the way you dress. I can't wait until I'm out of high school, where nobody gives a damn. And whats the deal with these pants costing $80, likt Sean John! It seems like anybody can write their name on a shirt and cell it for a high price. I would much rather have the rent paid and food in my fridge before I buy sneakers that will cost a few teeth out of my mouth.
