Yes, right in the middle of all this talk about FFX-sequel and FFXI-RPG I'll throw a fresh(?) teaser image from FXII!

Nothing spoiler-y about this, just a scenery-pic, so don't be afraid to see the attachment.

Just to add some salt to this thread, I want to ask you: is the square-people gone completely insane? This kind of bombing with new games is going to kill us poor fanatics!!! Thankfully FFXII isn't due until years ahead...

It's about damn time they got to work on the sequel. FFX is by far the best and proably most popular out of the FFX series.....well, in my opinoin. I've been a big fan of the game for ages. My dad was so pissed at the end. I've always wanted to see something new happen. But it'll take YEARS for them to get it out here in the US.....*sighs* *mopes around for 3 years or so*

I'm not so sure about that ;)

Many, many, more people were fans of FFVII. I mean it's still one of the top games, 5 or so years later!!

I actually think FFXII's going to be... different. If you take a look at FF:CC pics, and FFXI pics, you can see already how different those games are going to be. I'm not sure if i like it, they're changing it too much. What ever happened to super-deformed? Why don't they atleast bring a variety, insted of all these realistic graphics.

Don't get me wrong, i love the realistic graphics and all, but i think they just need other styles as well. Sure SD has seen it's time, but still, what about us old-school fans?

I have to agree with Tasis about FFVII. And plus, FFX had no overworld. What the heck?! Anyways, I have to agree with Tasis again that I'm not sure I like the new look, either. FFXI's charecters looked oo to me, but with FF Crystal Chronicles, the charecters just look downright stupid. But, I do have hope for FFXII, considering that this is actually gonna be a true FF game (FFXI is a MMORPG, and FF Crystal Chronicles follows the show in Japan). So, however this game looks, it'll still probably be great. As long as they put an overworld in it this time, then I'll be happy. =)

It looks kind of like a futuristic Lindblum...
I wish that I could get FF:Online. My mom has outlawed it in our house just beause it has Online in the title. She is very wierd about online gameplay. She even made me get Starcraft off of our computer...

Yeah, and /I'm/ agreeing with him. FFVII, released in 1997. And now, 2003, and people are _still_ talking about it? I'd say that alone proves how popular FFVII is. Look at FFVIII and FFIX--They were popular (not nearly as muchso as FFVII), and they drifted into non-existence. FFX will do much the same.

As for that FFXII poster.. Hm. Looks pretty cool.

Bleh...I was hoping FFXII would be more in the style of the old FF games, like FFIV, where you had knights and castles and all that fantasy-ish stuff. I'm tired of all this futuristic crap. It just doesn't feel like Final Fantasy to me. Even FFVII was on the edge in that regard, even if it is one of the best in the series.

And I still want to see another 2D Final Fantasy game like the old SNES ones. The newer ones may have flashy graphics, but I still prefer the old overhead view and sprites of the pre-PSX games.

Hehe... they may not make a remake of FF7 but more like a sequel....

Report: Final Fantasy VII-2?
By Christian Nutt November 06, 2002

Hot on the heels of the formal announcement of Final Fantasy X-2, Japanese site Quiter is reporting that series' producer Yoshinori Kitase mentioned a possible sequel to the series' most popular installment, Final Fantasy VII, in the upcoming issue of Japan's number one game magazine, Famitsu.
According to Quiter, in an interview in the mag, Kitase says that he would like to make a continuation to FFVII -- and lots of other people do, too, including character designer Tetsuya Nomura (who recently debuted as a director in his own right with Square's immensely popular Kingdom Hearts.) Kitase goes on to say that since there are so many ardent fans of the game, they don't want to make a bad game. Consequently, concrete plans and a schedule for the game have not been decided upon.

It sounds a bit far-fetched, but so did FFX-2 until it happened. We'll see what develops in the future.

This comes from the offical Playstation site... I know I'm late, but no one seem to have quoted this site yet.

I really wish people would quit bitching about the more modern visuals in some of the more recent Final Fantasy games.

Bear in mind that FFXI tends to go back to the medieval style, despite being the newest FF game so far.

In addition, I have the sneaking feeling that FFX sold in excess of FFVII. I could be wrong about that, but didn't FFX sell something like 4 million units in Japan alone? I think it sold over 7 million units worldwide.

Anyway, that's beside the point.

I think this poster looks gorgeous. You'll notice that Yoshitaka Amano and the FFVIII/FFX/FFXI artist, Tetsuya Nomura aren't mentioned in the preliminary "staff list" for the game. It seems that this latest game is having its art directed by someone different. But Mr. Nomura may direct the overall game and not the art as such.

In addition, I don't think we can call this game futuristic as such. Just look at the poster. The image of the city above looks somewhat futuristic, but look at the lower half of the poster. In my opinion, this game looks to be closer to FFIX than FFX. It seems to be a slight combination.

Overall though, I think we need to get away from this whole "futuristic isn't fantasy" rubbish. Sometimes I feel like people are being nostaligic as some kind of superiority complex or something.

Let's face it, FFVII was futuristic. And it was still very much a fantasy game. What matters fundamentally are the gameplay, story and characters. I mean, FFVIII had the same style as FFX, but most people agree that FFX had much better characters and story.

And then look at FFIX. It had the ultimate medieval style (which was gorgeous)...but the story was horrible and many of the characters were as interesting as a cardboard box.

Let's not judge a book by its cover here; let's wait until we see shots and videos of this game...and until we actually play it and experience the story and the gameplay. For all we know, this could end up being the most fun FF game ever.

I'm glad that Square has the balls to make artistic changes to its games. They are under so much pressure to just "stay the same" constantly. I feel that the very same people who ask for this are the people who would complain about lack of innovation or change if Square DID always stay the same.

We should encourage Square to be bold and to try new things. Just because FFX had a realistic style doesn't mean that other games will -- and I wouldn't exactly say that FFXII looks "realistic" as such. It's still a fantasy/otherworldly setting. Besides, how do we know that FFXIII isn't going to have a very cartoony/unrealistic style?

The fact is, the style is always changing. Let's just go along for the ride and appreciate the beauty in what is being presented, rather than always saying "Oh I wish the characters had disproportionate heads and wore capes and pointy hats". Just enjoy it. ^_^

Due to my laziness I havent read all the posts, only james' and the actual topic, but from what james said all I have to say is

"Its a matter of opinion" and as james quite rightly said, "dont judge a book by its cover"

As far as I know square's never led us astray yet, none of their games were terrible, though some weren't as good as they could have been, and about this futuristic thing, take kingdom hearts, that game's pretty cool, im still in the process of beating it though. *shakes fist* But its still a bit ....... "woah" to say the least. So yeah, ignore me, most of what I just said won't be of any use but I thought i'd add my bit in anyway.

Well, actually, Square, Square did make a bad game. Ever hear of Samp of Dragoon? (I believe that was the title). I'm not saying FFXII is gonna be bad, since FFVII was my favorite FF, and that was ultra futuristic. I'd actually kind of like a more technology based FF game, but in some ways I don't. Either way, I'm still gonna buy this game, so I suppose it really doesn't matter

I'm not saying a more futuristic look to the game makes it worse, I'm just saying that I prefer the more medieval style. Heck, FFVII is my second favorite game in the series, and FFIX is one of my least favorite. I don't judge a Final Fantasy game by its graphical style, I just have a preference.

Well, Square makes a lot of crappy games. The Bouncer and Driving Emotion Type-S were both major shockers.

Square is, in my opinion, the single most overrated company in the video game industry. Square is far from companies like Enix or Nintendo in terms of quality.

But having said that, Square does make a lot of good games too. Chrono Cross and FFVII are two of my favourite RPGs. And Final Fantasy changes directors/artists so often...it's always bound to look different.

But generally the gameplay seems to improve. And let's face it, it doesn't matter how the game looks or even how good the story is. If the game is really good fun to play, you're going to play regardless of story.

FFIX's nice battle system is what kept me playing. I didn't play for the story as such.

I think if the story is great though, it can justify the visual style. Know what I mean? If everything is in context and tied together...and has a reason...then that's what justifies the style. And the style soon becomes a key part of what you love about the game.

I agree with James. Its the gameplay that gets you hooked. Kingdom Hearts is my example. I LOVE the animation and the story is good, but I gave up on it becuase the gameplay is very hard for me to get used to. Trying to do and adventure game with a real time menu wasn't the greatest idea.

Guest Link Blade
The levels and monsters in KH are awsome if you ask me. I could do without Donald and Goofy though. The main reason I played it was to fight Cloud, Squall, Yuffie, and of course Sephiroth. I still havn't beated Sephiroth though, the damn basterd...

Dude, you are really stupid. Did this say anything about Kingdom Hearts in it? Exactly. Sort your post quality out too. :) -Break
