Here vs There

Signing up at another board usually will feel odd since you're used to "home" (probably OB for many of you). Unless you have friends at another place, it's not as fun to be a n00b again. At least form personal experience.

FFAlpha vs FFHorizon is my personal example. Similar member base, different attidues.

I'm a casual member to 1 other board, megatokyo.com , which has 17216 members. It's nice, but hard to get recognized..

Also, wrist cutter introduced me to another board today..HUGE avatars there..
70 times a day??
I'm sorry, but even I have a life.....I couldn't deal with THAT much in one day....

I've been to Otakuboard.com. I accidentally registered onto it, thinking that it was OtakuBoards. This was when the boards were down. I was checking almost every day to see if they were back up. One day when I was typing in the adress, I forgot to put the "s" in. It took me to Otakuboard and I tried to log in, but it said I wasn't a registered member, so I registered. When I was looking through it, I saw that there was a hentai forum and I thought "That can't be right. OB doesn't allow that stuff." Then I looked up at the adress and relized what was going on. I've only posted once there. This was the second message board I've been on. I think the first one was closed down. I've also been to Gamewinners forums, but this is the only one I've stuck to.

I registered as Yusuke or something.....the funny thing about that place is that a lot of people don't treat you very well and hardly anyone is ever there.

And they have a hentai forum....sick, I tell you. I took a peek in there once and someone was talking about a "dream" they had about characters from Yu Yu Hakusho. I got out of there as fast as I could....and that was just so scary. Some people are just really messed up.

Gaming-Age was originally on EZBoard and they basically blocked anyone they wanted to out. You had to apply and wait for them to say yes or no.

Right now they are on vB, and pretty much everyone was let in. It lead to a lot more idiocy than usual, but most of those people are gone already. The mods have been really quick about banning and closing things lately.

I don't know the average posts... But SolidSnakex had well over 10,000 posts on the old board. He pretty much has disappeared. The board just moves so fast that you wind up posting a lot or not at all. I had something like 200 posts there in the first 2 days.

Get me the link to that board... I'd love to see if I could out-spam them.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I used to go to countless other forums as well, more recent ones showing me just how much I apreciated OtakuBoards. You can't even compare OtakuBoards to some place like, say, FFRepublic. There, you could get away with everything, and while that may seem more free, it's a LOT less friendly, and I just felt like I didn't belong. But I like this community. Nice people, first forums I ever joined, and just an over-all great place.

OB is a wondeful place! A nice, clean forum with a great staff.
I've been to a few other forums where they have like 20,000 members, but such a un-staffable place. (I hope that's a word..)

Sure they have a staff, but what is so crazy is that there are no censors (Without the OB sensors, it would still be pretty clean) and there are TONS of flame wars going on. Everyone plays mod and swears, and I find that the staff does nothing.
I have a hard time reading the posts there. And often times I see threads closed wihtout any reason.

And people bombard you with IM's offering to sell you stuff (Partly your fault if you decide to let people see it). Over here having acess to peple's IM Screennames help makes new friends!

OB is the role-modle for all other message boards.
People shoudl realize that.

I'll PM you the link if you want.

Anyway, I visit allot of other messageboards. And it's true they aren't as nice. I only join other boards to find more gamers, to talk about games with. :p I recently tried to join GA but my email was blocked. O_o I don't know how that happened. But if I did have to pick one, it would be here.

Don't worry, Whirlwind. You probably won't get banned anyways, and all bans are done for a reason. Moderators will give you warnings before a ban is even considered. I can't say I know what goes on behind closed staff doors, but if what James tells us it true, then most bans are talked about and debated by the staff before the actual person is banned.

I've joined an html boards.. ^^
It's another VB board that's pretty clean, and the people there are pretty friendly, too. ^_^
I joined because I really needed to start learning some html sooner or later, and I decided a forum would be pretty nice to start. ^^
It's pretty nice there, since the people are so nice to newbies, and the older members are really nice in explaining the rules, too. They seem to have a pretty friendly staff too.

Even though I've joined alot of other boards, the otakuboards are definately my favorite boards and website.
Nearly everyone here's been very friendly, and great to talk to. It feels alot as if I know alot of you irl, since we're a pretty open/close community here. ^_^

I think I remember visiting the old OB around V2... I never joined though, well... I don't think I did. ^^;

Well... in some cases, some people have to be banned.

It's an unpleasent thing to happen to other members, but sometimes, people can say/do things that are harmful to other people.

No need to worry though. ^_-

Awww come on. Give them a chance! ;)

Actually they're quite nice. Well dunno about now, but when I was there they were quite nice. But I wouldn't think anything's changed. :D

As I said they're an older crowd, so the topics and tone tends to be different. In some respects tighter, in others more loose. They are asian mostly, with asian sensibilities, so that's either a plus or a minus depending upon your point of view. They are somewhat parochial in their outlooks. But hey, no one's perfect...except possibly me. ;)
In contrast, OtakuboardS is essentially 'western'. You would think it doesn't matter, and perhaps it doesn't, but it does give the Boards slightly differing flavors.

Now that's something you don't see everyday. A banned member give his previous forum a good rap. :D *cough*....but er....we're digressing dangerously off topic, so MistressRoxie if you want to continue this, it'll have to be via PMs. Else some staff member will yank my chain and...*scratches dog collar*...its...*cough*... rather tight as it is. :)

Speaking of Boards, has anyone here tried Animeboards? Now that's pretty big. I'm surprised no one brought it up cos its also run by an aussie (damn convicts are are everywhere! :D). Its about 3 times as large as this place, and if you wanna join, I'd say good luck! Cos their registration is often closed. Seems they are really popular and can't handle the demand. And this is despite the fact they only accept people with 'real' email addresses, ie no free web accounts. They actually 'manually' check each email account (just to catch the new freebie services, software filter already takes care of hotmail, yahoo and the like) Which, I would think, rules out many people in here. :)

To me the layout is pretty chaotic, and even ugly. But some of the discussions are quite good. I haven't checked out many of the anime forums but the debate and discussion forums seem to populated with people, again, generally over 18.

The policy there is much more loose. Free speech is fairly highly regarded, or maybe the staff are just lazy! In any case, I wouldn't suggest it if you have a faint-hearted. ;)

Also I'm not sure whether anyone brought up AnimeNation. It has some intelligent folk. Again its about 3 times as big as this Board, there are many adults and its quite loose as far as 'free-speech' goes, so I would not venture into either AnimeBoards or AnimeNation if I wanted some attention or cozy friendly place to hang.

But both places are interesting to visit, if you wanted to see some debate/discussion about scientific or political issues, since many of the people do seem to be somewhat more informed than here. Again I think that's merely a function of age and experience. I know many of you disagree with me here, but if you're in your 40s, been married twice, divorced once, and have a couple of kids of your own, being through university, perhaps even a postgraduate qualification, and have been working for a decade or so, what you know about the world simply cannot be compared to a 16 yr old child, no matter how smart they may be.

And before any of you accuse me of bagging OtakuBoards, I'm not. :)

Its got its strengths. Its orderly, and usually, pretty friendly. And if you're a teenager interested in anime, you have better things to do than talk about politics anyway! ;)

This place was my first board, and
I'm glad, because it taught me about forum etiquette(sp?). and at megatokyo board(the other one i frequent..wel, nah..i have 60 posts.. i dont post, i just read...) you're allowed to double post to bump up the thread. many posts consist of..*bump*...... -_-

Anyway, the Kyoko Fukada board that I was talking about how wrist cutter introduced me to it is really nice. Every post is polite and clean of spam..except in the forum sort of like otaku lounge..

The board is smaller, but I like this board better for it's people.

What are you talking about? Nearly the whole board is spam by Otakuboards standards, haha... same responses to post: "Wow! She looks great!" or some form, haha. It's a great board though because everyone has something in common and there's never any debates or anything. All good and friendly.

Yea, they're not too bad. It's really weird how they all refer to that place as OB...but we're OB! We are! It's kind of Twilight Zone-ish...

*cough*

Anyway, I just signed up there today. As Rain. Who else has signed up there? I just can't beleive how many Admins they have. There's about 6 mods and 8 admins or something, compared with our three. Wouldn't that get confusing? Hmm...Mnemolth, i just have to know, what did you do to make them ban you? lol ^^
