Lady Macaiodh
so many people have asked me how to pronounce my name since i joined, it's not even funny. Mc-Kaid Mc-Kade either one. it's scottish. not nearly so hard to say as it looks, yes? i've thoroughly given up on people learning how to spell it correctly. but i'm used to that sort of thing, since most people spell my real-life first name wrong.

I kept saying 'Samgee Gamwise' at the movies, because I've been trying to say his so long. @_@;
Kent
Hey lady Mac (keeping in mind your patience with bad spellers) I know how you feel. My last name is "hoggatt." Not exactly an easy one for the faint of heart. Oddly everyone adds an r to it as if it was "hoggart" and they say it that way too. It gets really old, especially when your still in school or in my case... college, where the teachers still insist on calling role and can never manage it correctly. Luckily Ive moved to luoisiana and there is what they call "the irish channel" so there are a couple of other hoggatts down here. On a side note, I think Im going to change my name. I have the last name just mentioned, but thats my fathers last name. Sadly, he died when I was about 7. So carrying on his name was an obligation, but as of recently I learned that my mother was going to take her maiden name of doyle after her widowing. Since I am, in my opinion, more of a doyle than a hoggatt, I am thinking of changing my name to doyle. It fits more since I have orange facial hair and as my mom puts it, "a map of ireland on my face." I dont really think I will go through with it, but what do you guys think. Should I change it? kent alexander hoggatt kent alexander doyle
Imp
Originally posted by Lady Katana I usually just shorten people's names, and another of the last consanant, and add a -y on the end. Ex. Semmy- Semjaza Azazel; Wehhy or Breakky- Weh (or Break); Desy-B -Desbreko; Queeny- Tori Others I just go with what I think would be cute nicknames for them. Ex. Fanatic- Valen; Kirby Ken, Ken-oki- Ken; Evil Incarnate- Neil....
Yeah, I do that a lot too! For example: Squashed Snail: SS Dark_Apocalyps: DA Lady Katana: LK (or just Katana) I've seen my name as a lot of things, such as: Neferti Neffie Neferitimon (misspelling) Personally, I kinda like the name Neffie... it sounds so cute! So do the names you came up with, LK! Kirby Ken, huh? CUUUUUUTE!
Lady Macaiodh
gokents--i think you're doing the right thing. i've done the same thing. i think if you relate more to that side of your heritage... you should do it. everyone ought to be proud of their surname.

Kent
Hell yea, Lady mac. Not only am I glad to see someone reads the post that are put up besides the first one, but Im also glad to see someone who actually gives a little mind to the questions others ask. I have been thinking about that subject for the last year or so atleast and I always just let it pass by with out giving any real thought to it. Yet the whole time I look at myself in the mirror and see a spitting image of my mother and grandfather. It just gets to me to think about it because I have pride in my fathers name as well. I identify with my doyle genetics and heritage, and I always think the name thing over. In the end I just hope that I can make the right decision which ever way I go. I am at the moment thinking that Im gonna change my name. Im still in college and I think that if I get my name changed before I graduate, I will be able to get the right name on my diploma. So yea, I just wanna thank you for your support.

Geist
Well one of the reasons I changed my name, was because I didn't think very many people could pronounce it correctly. (I know of at least two people who couldn't. ;) ) Also, here are some names that I usually have trouble with. Lady Katana I always say "Lady Katakana", I don't know why. Angelus Necare Can't help saying "Angelus Neecare". Schrat Every time I look at this one, I see "Scratch". (Apologies to all of the above. :))

Senor Ding Dong
When my name was clowmet, people used to call me "clownmet". *aims Death Killa 90000 at Devi*. ALso, i'm sure some people pronunced it wrong. It was pronounced "Kuh-low-uh-met", not "Clow-met". *wonders why people prounounce thngs olldy*
