OOC: It's evolution baby.

IC: Lacroix looked around a moment, fixing the position in his mind.

Lacroix: Well then people. I think I'll disappear now.

Lacroix pulled out his water flask, and took a small swig.

Lacroix: Good night all, and may we thank Solmnus for his blessed cup of nepenthe...

A wry note crept into the last few words. Lacroix raised the flask in a toast, but not to his lips. Without further words, he remounted Alqwerik, and the two took off into the night.

They ended up a few hundred metres away, in a small cave. Despite the cramped conditions, the cave measured perhaps seven feet in height, and one and a half times that across, Alqwerik had little trouble coiling his body into the small crevice in the rock. He wound his way to the back of the nook, finding it adequately empty, and adequately closed off. There was a grizzly bear's last meal there, but that wasn't too much of a concern. Alqwerik returned to the front of the cave, where Lacroix had lit what amounted to a small fire. Only about seven feet across...

Alqwerik coiled his body around three quarters of the blaze, Lacroix taking the other. The one closest to the cave mouth. Alqwerik relaxed in the warmth a moment.

Alqwerik: Still can't sleep within 10 metres of anyone you haven't known for over a year?

Lacroix: Oh come on. Would you trust that lot as far as you could throw them?

Alqwerik: I don't know...I could throw that lot pretty far.

Lacroix sighed, and walked outside. Looking at the rock above the cave, and noting it was mostly loose boulders, he climbed up, and pushed one of the larger rocks off. Alqwerik's long tail slashed out from inside the cave and wrapped around it before it could roll away. Lacroix jumped down, and walked back inside. Alqwerik pulled sharply, and the rock came skidding towards them. The snakelike creature let go, and Lacroix pulled the rock the rest of the way in. It was somewhat larger than the cave mouth, and blocked it perfectly. The air would be a little stuffy, but it was security.

Axel woke up early, most others were asleep, he cooked a small meal over the fire and walked outside, eating it with his hands on the way out. He sat on the grass right out of the castle. As he finished his breakfast, he watched the sun rise. He fell aslep for a little more...

Nepenthe awoke to the sound of Ganthor sharpening his claws on the nearby rocks. She rose to her feet, stretching luxuriously....then she went back to where he was and leapt onto his back. Ganthor reared unexpectedly, and she grabbed a handful of mane and fur. He wheeled into the air swiftly and the two took off.

Ganthor: ...let me guess, smell for woodsmoke and lythanoid.

The female Laporin groaned and kicked his side with her dewclawed heels. He took off swiftly and followed his nose. The two hovered just outside the cave where the two odities were sleeping. Nepenthe dismounted and quietly stepped across the ashes he had left. Then she sat down cross legged and waited.

It didn't take long before the dragon awoke and glared at her. She smiled at him thoughtfully and winked.

I'll edit this in a moment....

Where I come from....we call it Itsari power. She's 8,000 years old [check the signups] and you're wondering how she could break a rock? FYI, she's only about a few millenia older than you.....

OOC: What the hell has age got to do with breaking rocks? Do you use your skin cream on it or something? Cause that stuff would have to be pretty corrosive... Do your Istari people base their age on how many boulders they whack or something? An entire race of people who grew up playing too much Whack-a-mole I'll bet...

You may be a bit older than me, but...you're still outclassed.

OOC: K, guys a little off subject. We have an RPG to finish.

And back to subject.IC

Ravwrin was enjoying the air currents, but knew her fun would soon end. Rouk glided down and landed in a clearing just a few yards from the others.

Ravwrin- We will rest here for tonight.

Rouk gave Ravwrin an odd Why not camp where they are?

Ravwrin- Trust is gained not given out freely.

Ravwrin and Rouk sleep in that clearing for the night only to wake to a morning of sunlight and dew.

OOC: Oh come on, that isn't even an original idea anymore. Still, I stand to be eaten (direct quote) if I don't cover for Raiha, so I'll go along with it.

IC: Lacroix awoke to soft laughter. He blearily got up, wondering where the rock had gone. Apparently, he had mused that thought out loud. Apparently, it had also not been coherent, for he received an amused, inquiring reply in return. Alqwerik grumbled something in the background. Sounds like someone just lost an argument...

Lacroix stood, and groaned loudly. And sat back down again in a hurry. Well, it was actually more of a fall, but he tried.

Lacroix: Mornings be bad. Very bad. I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to refrain from doing that in future though. If I hadn't been wearing this damn cloak, well, I'd be stuck here until nightfall. Or sufficient shadow.

Nepenthe: I know.

Lacroix: Somehow, that fails to surprise me.

A few loud groans later, and Lacroix's eyes adjusting to the light, he started walking around. He disappeared into a nearby stream, completely submerging himself. A lot of bubbles came up. Alqwerik had a good feeling he could translate them into the profanities Lacroix was certainly uttering. The Lythanoid came out, dripping wet, swearing, but otherwise more civil than he had been. He would be more human than he had been, but he isn't a human, and more Lythanoid than he had been doesn't make sense. Oh well. Lacroix walked back into the camp, doing something with his internal temperature to dry the cloak in a matter of seconds.

Lacroix: Is there a good reason you're waking me up? In case you haven't noticed, neither of us takes well to it...

Alqwerik muttered something in response. Lacroix was tempted to throw him into the stream. Lacroix threw him into the stream.

Nepenthe: You can pick him up?

Lacroix: I'm a Lythanoid. That's what we do.

Nepenthe: Throw large, annoyed serpents around? Is this some way of looking for a fight?

Lacroix: With him, yes. Normally, though, we don't throw big lizards around. Still, you have to admit it was funny. Anyway, where were we? Oh yes... Why the hell are you getting me up?

She grinned to herself and pointed up at the dusky clouded sun. Ganthor came over, with the true Nepenthe on his back. The copy that had broken the rocks and awoken Lacroix stepped over and melted back into her.

Alqwerik: ...I should've eaten the homunculus when I had the chance.

Nepenthe: ...You could eat me now. But ....Lethe might get upset. And eat you and your...buddy.

Lacroix: ...for the last time....WHY DID YOU WAKE ME UP!?!?!?

Nepenthe: Well, it was such a beautiful morning, I just didn't want you to be wasting the day away while this sun was in the sky.....filling everything with light....and beauty....

Ganthor: Please stop...I'm gonna be sick.

There were no words to describe the outrage.

Nepenthe: Actually, we need to hunt. It's breakfast time.

Lacroix: Well you go do that. I don't eat. Not only am I Undead, I'm also a Lythanoid. You may have realised by now that we have somewhat higher internal temperatures than any other species known. Where do you think this energy goes? The fact that we have mouths is merely a now-defunct evolutionary trait, which is even now disappearing from our species. I don't know about communication, but hell, not my problem.

Nepenthe: So what? You'll come anyway.

Alqwerik: The fact that she knows you so well already suggests a certain empathy. Which suggests I should eat the lot of you right now...

Alqwerik shot Nepenthe a look of mild amusement.

Alqwerik: And I'm an avatar. Lethe can dislike whatever she damn well pleases...

Lacroix: If you two are nearly finished...

The words "You god damned hypocrite" echoed in unison from the other three beings in the clearing. Lacroix only heard two renditions, but could guess the third from the look on Ganthor's face.

Lacroix: Would it be a bad time to suggest we all go out and work out our frustrations on some nice succulent deer? Appealing to all you people with appetites...

Alqwerik: I'm going to eat you.

Lacroix: I know. I know. I'm going to eat me too.

For some reason, that didn't get much of a response... It did however, get everybody away from Lacroix. Oh sure, he followed along, but for some reason the other three kept staying ahead of him...He wasn't sure why. And they seemed deep in conversation, because none of them seemed to hear him... Finally, in frustration, Lacroix yelled out "Stop subverting my lizard". No reply. He gave up.

Nepenthe and the two beasts quietly continued through the forest....ignoring the rage of Lacroix...which was flaring louder than a rutting deer. Finally, they came upon several bucks grazing. Ganthor was silent, waiting...and Alqwerik watched Nepenthe moving. She rose to her feet, and threw the lance in her hand. It not only passed through the first deer's neck, but continued into the body of the one next to him. With a slight snarl, Ganthor pounced and finished it off.

Nepenthe: Perfect....more or less.

She brushed the deer blood from her tunic and took out her blade. Lacroix stared.

With deft movements, she filleted the one she had slain and began to calmly skin it....then she looked up.

Nepenthe: Is there something wrong?

Lacroix: ...no.

Lacroix: I just prefer a different method.

Lacroix wandered over to the edge of the clearing, one of the other bucks had run off. He set out, following what signs he could find. As soon as he was out of earshot, Alqwerik spoke.

Alqwerik: Well, he won't eat it, so chances are I'll have to. Which saves me some trouble, but still....

Lacroix stalked the deer, shadowing its movements. Like a panther, he took to the trees, darting ahead of the now calm buck. The deer changed course slightly, and Lacroix ran along the branches like some monsterous black squirrel. The buck caught a scent, and looked around. Seeing nothing, it raised its head as much as it could. In time to see Lacroix drop down, claws raking deep into the creature's chest and throat. The buck shuddered, gave out a last, forlon call, and died.

Lacroix walked back into the clearing. He'd only been gone for five minutes. He tossed the deer to Alqwerik, who agilely caught it in his jaws.

Lacroix: Weapons make it so much less fun...

Nepenthe: Bully for you...but I was born a girl. [I could try your method, but there's several drawbacks. First off, the bones in my hands are nothing like yours, nor are the tendons holding it together. My nails wouldn't bear the stress of slicing through the hide of such a deer as this.

Alqwerik: ...I would say something cruel and unusual....

Lacroix: That's my job!

Ganthor: Oh brother......sibling rivalry.

Nepenthe quietly tore off a hunk of raw meat and helped herself. Boys will be boys....and toys....

Lacroix: You may be right. After all...

Lacroix flexed his hand. Not his fingers, his hand. It bent in line where the thumb connected, all the way across. His fingers curled into spirals.

Lacroix: Not having bones kind of helps.

Not getting a response, he continued his argument with Alqwerik. Ganthor looked on with mild interest, but if he said anything, Alqwerik didn't respond, and Lacroix didn't hear it.

 • 3 weeks later...
Sorry that I let the RPG slip away, I have been very sick and I've had a lot of work. I'm back and posting now.

Axel looked back at the several camps lined up. The sun decended once more and orange light covered the landscape. He walked, casting a lonely shadow in front of him, towards the castle. He stood at the doors, for the the first time noticing how large they were. The battle was won, but there were more he had to fight. He turned, looking at the speck of the camps, making his decision of his feeling towards his crew... Names, personalities, and skills ran through his mind; Ryowa's hatred, Nepenthe and Lacroix's bickering... was there anybody who could just get along? Of course there were, he hoped. He gave a small smile, and opened the right door...
