Genkai
My brother just got a/the Flaming Lips CD, and I must say, I love it... It's rock, but, well, obscure.. It's not very heavy or anything... Not hard rock or punk rock.. Like, Travis rock, knumsayin? I especially like the song "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots pt.1".... In fact, I'm listening to it right now.. I know she can beat them... Oh Yoshimi. The don't believe me... But you won't let those robots eat me...\ Heh heh.. Good song.. Anyway, anyone else like this bnad? The CD apparently is popular underground and ...overground? I dunno... Buy it.
Semjaza
My heart skipped when I saw this thread. Seriously :D. I love the Flaming Lips. I had just finally bought Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots at Best Buy the other day. The entire thing is simply excellent, my favorites being Fight Test, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots pt. 1, Are You a Hypnotist?? and In the Morning of the magicians. It's rock, just rather mellow. Someone told me they are simliar to the Steve Miller Band, whom I'm not familiar with. The Flaming Lips basically remind me of Radiohead, but not quite as experimental as their recent stuff. Some of it slightly reminds me of Tweaker (or even Telefon tel Aviv) as well, at least in terms of the electronic sound. They aren't that simliar to either of those bands, other than the laid back approach they take... But still, I am reminded of them. Glad to see there is another fan here :). Yu Yu Hakusho!
Looks great. Where can I get it??? I have to get it!!!!! 0_o Sorry, LOL. It just looks like something that I'd like. I'm into a lot of Japanese Bands and things like that so....as you can see, that is something that appeals to me. Just someone please tell me where I can get it! Semjaza
The Flaming Lips aren't Japanese. A lot of the music doesn't even sound like anything I'd associate with the Japanese at all, other than some of the songs about robots and Yoshimi (which remind me more of anime than anything). I guess some of the sound has a strange game/anime tinge to it though. Offhand, I think there is one song with Japanese words in it. I haven't really paid attention to the last tracks on it yet though, so I'd have to double check. Edit- Well if there is any Japanese in any of them, I can't find it. I thought one had some Japanese being spoken in the background, but guess not heh. This is also just this one CD mind you. They have a few others. Yu Yu Hakusho!
Ok...so they aren't Japanese. But they still sound cool. Now, how do I get their CD?
Semjaza
Go to the store :p. They aren't very hard to find, especially Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. I think you saw the image up there, so just watch out for that cover. I got mine at Best Buy, and they had a few others to choose from as well. Genkai
Well, sometimes it's hard to find... Sorry YYh, not Japanese, but yes SA, there is some background music in the beginning and end of YBTPR pt. 1 It's very mellow.. Some people say it's more thike Phish.. I dunno.. that's an iffy one, the whole CD is pretty wacked, but awesome.. YBTPR pt. 2 is pretty weid too... heh heh.. Well, I'm glad to see all these people so interested!! treton_noir
arent they touring with beck right now? i havent heard a whole lot of their stuff, but if you compare them to radiohead (incredible) then ill give them a listen. then, come to think of it, if theyre touring with beck, they must be weird. have you seen/heard about "christmas on mars"? its a film that stars the guy from the flaming lips. the guy that played steve on "blue's clues" is in it, too. im pretty sure that the FL did most, if not all of the music from the film. i havent seen it, but it looks really good and really weird. Genkai
Have any of you heard "Zaireeka"? It's this crazy 4 disc thingy the lips made that are made to be played simultaneously, but you'll never hear the same thing because you can't start at the same time each time.. Sounds crazy, and it's only 25 bucks at borders. w007.

Semjaza
This thread is so old... However, I am suddenly getting back into this CD and realizing it is even greater than I ever thought. One of the best releases of 2002 definately. I could sit here and listen to some of these songs forever... Fight Test, One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Do You Realize?? (and it's creepy video) and so on. How these songs can be so upbeat and happy sounding, while at the same time being about some rather sad and slightly depressing stuff... I'll never understand. Sure, other bands have managed it... but this is at like another level, especially in combination with the music videos. I love this CD. Anyway, has anyone that said they were getting it gotten it? And if so, what did they think?
Genkai
I now have all the flaming lips CDs except for Zaireeka.... They're AWESOME!!! I really like Transmissions From The Satellite Heart.......... Great CD, go buy!!! Aww, man, I've become probably one of the most hardcore Flaming Lips fans (besides my brother) around these days...... My favorite band forever...
