Secrets of the Triangle

Whew! Finally got around to this.:p
My net connection was down for a while, so..
*******************
Riana stared at the giant green lizard as it towered over her. It muttered incomprehensible words and seemed to be getting annoyed by the second. Normally, she loved animals, but she didn't want to take chances with this one.

How had an in-training zoologist gotten herself into this?
The girl didn't know herself. All she remembered was the vast feeling of panic she felt when her plane crashed into a swirling mass of water.
There were other people on the plane, but Riana didn't know where they ended up. She, she knew, was here, wherever 'here' was. This was certainly not Earth.

"Maybe I died and this is......" she was muttering to herself and the lizard jerked up and swept it's fiery eyes over her.
"Uh-Oh."
The lizard issued a sharp command and Riana was instantly seized by two smaller brown lizards.

A tall female was reclining on a rock ledge, quietly listening to the sounds of the village below. The guards were lizards, the people were indigenous, somewhat bizare, and only half related to her. Her spirit half was wild and untamed....and manifested itself in her blindness, her empathy, and her beast tounge.

She sighed turned to one side. Sightless eyes open and staring. Her ears tilted from one side to the other and she stood up and jumped down from the ledge. The lizards were marching in, led by the captain, Lantur. She smiled. Two Monitor lizards were dragging a female human...by the smells and sounds of it. And when she turned on her other Sight, she could see the female was from the outside. Ilekea smiled and walked over to her father's throne. Then she sat down and waited patiently.

As the preistess of Lolth, people avoided her, and feared her....life wasn't so bad being blind.

Ilekea: ...from the outside.

Lord Taiek: Who are you?

Riana: ...umm, I'm Riana. Your, highness?

Ilekea: Lordship.

The human female quickly corrected herself and bowed low.

Ilekea: What are you here for?

Riana: My transportation was sucked through a whirlpool, and I landed here, it was an accident! I didn't mean to intrude on your....island? Are we on an Island?

The lord of the people nodded quietly. Ilekea stood up and bowed to her father, then spoke to him in a quiet undertone. He nodded once more and folded his arms. The audience was over. He dismissed the people, and the Monitors let her go. Ilekea turned her sightless eyes upon the female human and beckoned to her.

Whisteling to himself, Asura made his way down a dirt path, glanceing down to the Lizard's village- He hadnt been here in a few months, but the Lizard's always had a good job for a mercenary- That is, if you are in good terms with them. Thankfully, he had become good friends with this Village's cheif, and Asura had even learned a bit of their language. All and all, he enjoyed their company, and he hoped they were still on good terms.

It was a beautiful day, all in all, but something seemed a bit off- The forests seemed to be quieter than usual, almost cautious, especially as he neared Ilekea's village, causing him to raise his eyebrow several times over during the duration of his half-week walk.

His gaze snapped to the gates to the village, two warriors standing at attention at either side of it. Sighing a sigh of relief and fatigue, he made haste in greeting the guards, their nodding heads reaffirming the friendship between him and the people that resided their. They seemed a bit tenser than last time.. causing him to wonder, to himself, is something was wrong. A few more words, a smile, a bow, and Asura walked into the village, slowing to a stop.

He lifted the massive hammer off his shoulder, leaning on it against the ground as he felt the ebbing fatigue increase twofold instantly as the prospect of actually being able to sleep crossed his mind's thoughts. Awake for 5 days on end, it was understandable, yet he still felt he could go on for another 5 if he really had to.

Trying not to drift to that subject, he heaved his hammer back onto his shoulder, walking slowly deeper into the village to see the cheiftan, hopeing to find himself a way to grab some more cash- Not that he was low on it- He merely had run out of good jobs to do in the past two weeks, and was intensely bored..

Matt shielded his eyes from the harsh sun above. Not only was he late for his conference, but he was also lost in the middle of no-where. He looked up from his laptop at the surrounding islands. Weird, they looked to be a cluster of islands from the PNG area...but that wasn't possible, their flight went no where near that area.

His attention was distracted by the high pitched keening sound of the laptop's internal modem trying desperately to dial into the satellite above. It was making the connection, but some form of interference caused it to disconnect...His satelite phone was useless too...

Not one to panic, he calmly packed everything away and left the laptop's solar panel on top of his backpack. Ha! And his co-workers laughed at his 'greenie' nature. He chuckled again. The satellite must be out of range, seeing as this area seemed to be one not used to the finest in electronic hardware. He'd just try again and again until he got a linkup, then he'd send out an emergency beacon on the laptop and all would be fine...

He laughed at the time when his best friend gave him the beacon and the software on his first international flight...but now...it was suddenly a part of life and death...

Matt stood and stretched, folding up the compact satellite itself. He'd try again tomorrow, but for the moment food was in order. He slipped his backpack around his shoulders, solar panel on the outside, and began dragging his suitcase behind him.

Thanks to it's plastic hard shell, it had kept him afloat. It had almost made arguing with the airport clerk for an hour that it was carry on luggage, worth it. His parents always said never trust the undercarriage with your luggage...and that too had payed off...

Matt dropped his luggage at the base of a likely looking tree. All the other trees he had seen had very odd looking fruit...but this one looked like it had coconuts...

Matt shimmied up the trunk and tugged on a likely looking green globe. He tugged and it didn't move. He gave it another tug, harder this time, still didn't budge. This time he gave it an almighty pull, and slipped from his perch on the trunk. Matt looked at the ground o-so-very far below as he swung like a pendulum, still holding the coconut.

Something gave and Matt fell hard on his rump, still holding the coconut. Matt let out a groan and fell sideways.

'O...w....'

At least he had something to eat....

Trini's eyes flickered as she lit the last candle to the cavern walls. Her home. She placed a few sphere gems in a circle around her, and unraveled a scroll on the floor. Just then, a phoenix flew inside, its crimson wings seeming as if they were on fire.

"The gods are predicting something, Kihiri." Trini said out loud, busily placing smaller gems on parts of the map. "Something's coming to the island."

The phoenix landed gracefully by the map, and let out a high-pitched scream. He shifted to a more comfortable position as he stared over at Trini.

"The gods are unsure of these visitors." She continued.

He extended his neck and tapped her with his beak. It was sharp, yet it did not cut her as he tapped her palms. Trini looked up, and Kihiri dropped a small, ruby stone in her hand. Trini grinned, and walked further into the cave. It was one of the Seeing-stones, which would allow her to see a glimpse of another part of the islands.

She placed the gem in the center of a triangle, and placed her right hand above it.

Asura silently made his way through the village, stopping every so often to try to sell his inventions- getting some sucess and makeing a couple dozen gold as got closer to where the Cheiftein usually was- But something caught his eye. Or someone.

Asura: I was hopeing i'd run into her..!

Ilekea stood next to some woman that he had never seen before- Causeing suprise to Asura that there was another human amongst the lizards. He quickly jogged twards them, whipeing the sweat that had been pouring off his forehead for the past few days. The young woman glanced up in suprise at the large man, and the even larger hammer that he held. Illkea glanced at him, and smiled slightly.

Asura: Ilekea! My goodness its good to see you again!

She smiled slightly. He was the same as ever....she bowed slightly and beckoned him to follow as well. He nodded a hello to the Lord of the people, then followed the swaying hips of the female in front of him. The other was obviously an outsider of sorts....the clothes were a dead giveaway. He stared at Ilekea again. The same. Tall, cold, quiet....sightless eyes still terrifying.

Ilekea hummed to herself. His aura had changed from a calm tone to one of flaring energy. So he was observing her from behind again....

The trio passed through ranks of lizards, small houses, until they cleared the village boundries. Once outside of the immediate area, Ilekea turned her body north and headed into a small grove of trees. She pushed aside a banyan branch and entered the sanctum of Loloth. Ilekea sat down on a cold stone panel. The outsider looked up. Huge trees twisting around eachother, and rock murals all over the stone walls....Asura smiled and leaned on his hammer. This was the same as ever too.

Asura: Who's the girl?

Riana: ...I'm Riana.

Ilekea: She washed up from the whirlpool.

Raina: Where are we?

Ilekea: The presense of Loloth, the god of fear. I am the preistess of Him.

Asura: Outsiders.. Hmm. How many came this time?

Raina: There were alot more on the plane! I am definately not the only one-.. I hope.

Asura: Ahhh. Well. Sorry to interupt you Ilekea. Curiousity, you know.

Asura glanced at her and was immediately overtaken with the 'crush' he had devolped the last time this part of the island was his base of operations. She might have been a bit cold.. distant even- But she was lovely, in her own way. Silently, he admired her, smiling a bit to himself as he did.

Ilekea: We are here for your intitiation, Riana..

Asura remained silent and stepped back, leaning his hammer against the wall to stand in a more serious manner. Ilekea beckoned Riana over to a stone pool that was filled about halfway with.. blood. As she approached the pool, she stopped short seeing what was in it, and look confusedly at Ilekea, but no response came. Riana glanced back at Asura who gestured for her to keep going, holding back a mischeifivous grin to himself. Hesitantly, Riana appraoched the pool, stopping infront of it and stareing down into the crimson liquid...

Suddenly, Ilekea grabbed her hand and placed it into the liquid, much to her suprise. Riana resisted and tried to pull back, but she held strong, intill a full 30 seconds had past. Asura watched, the silence that was reverberating out of the sanctum wearing on his own nerves. Ilekea released her grip, reaching over to a vial that looked to be made out of glass- Filled with a high quality oil that, as soon as Ilekea opened it, released a sweet smell that permeated the sanctum. Silently, she poured it onto Riana's hair, and the intiation came to a close as the oil's sweet aroma nearly knocked Asura over..

Ilekea: I anoint you with the oil of Loloth, you are marked forever as His. With this comes the power of the inside and the strength of the tribes therein.

She smiled and closed her sightless eyes. Riana gasped. The oil had evaporated, leaving her stuned and still dripping with blood. Ilekea took her shoulder and led her to a corner of the sanctum. A small waterfall gushed down into a rock sealed pool. She gestured, and Riana dipped her hands in, washing away the liquid that had sunken into her whole being. Once she was through, she shook her hands, and they dried in the tropic heat. Ilekea smiled and turned to Asura.

Ilekea: Now then.

Asura: ....yes?

Ilekea: When was the last time you actually prayed?

He looked at his feet.

Asura: 4 months ago. The last time I was here, actually. Do we have to?

Ilekea: You know the answer to that..

Asura: Damn. Alright. I'll do it.. just because its an intiation- Special, ya know?

Leaving his hammer against the wall, Asura stepped foreward twards Ilekea, to where he was within 6 feet of her- Where a witness to an intiation should be, if he remembered correctly. Slowly, Ilkea looked to Riana, who was still in a state of confusion from all that had just happened. Ilekea motioned, and Riana stepped right infront of her, a triangle forming between the three.

Ilekea: Praise Loloth, for he is great
his power endures over his people.
To him who guides us,
we pledge our eternal alleigance,
and submit ourselves to his will.
Blessed be He who is the father of all...

And Ilekea continued the prayer, Asura repeating along exactly in time with her, and Riana picking it up as they went..

Matt lay on his side for quite some time, only after the pain had subsided did he bother to stand up.

'Ow...ow...hurting...'

Risking a stretch, Matt worked out the stiffness that had built up in his lower back. Feeling much better than before, he toddled over to a likely spot and repeatedly bashed the green skinned coconut on some pointy rocks.

Fifteen minutes later he'd manage to skin the coconut and get at the gooey goodness through a small crack...

Matt licked the white film off his fingers. At least he wasn't hungry anymore. He gave a contented sigh and leaned back against a rock. Feeling whimsical, he raised his head to look at the blue sky. Behind him he could hear the bushes rustling. Intrigued, he rolled over on his stomach and peered at the moving long grass.

'Erm...hello?' He said.

A crude spear head poked out from the grass and waved it aside. Then something so odd and unnatural popped out, Matt lay there looking like a goldfish.

The odd lizard like thing made several raspy sounds and pointed at Matt with his spear. Another two lizard creaters joined it and they too began pointing at him with their spears.

Matt came to his senses and stood, the three lizards quickly placed their spears under his chin.

'Oh...dear...?'

The first lizard motioned for Matt to pick up his baggage with his spear. Well...that's at least what Matt thought he wanted him to do...

Matt hefted his gear and followed the lizard in the lead. Occaisionally the two lizards behind would give him a sharp jab in the behind for good measure. After the sixth time Matt muttered

'At this rate my suit is going to be ruined...'

Ilekea: May He bless and keep us,
In this sanctum of life.

Amen.

Asura and Riana acknowledged, and Ilekea smiled thinly. He had no forgotten it. Riana looked comfortable, if a bit confused. Oh well, there was time for that later. Right now, it was time to put her in the women's home. Judging from the aura, Riana was still a virgin. She looked at Riana and nodded. Asura sat down and waited patiently.

The two women exited the sanctum and headed into the village again. Once they reached the red house. Riana entered and was greeted by two young women. They bowed to Ilekea with a certain degree of reverence, then closed the brush door slowly. Ilekea smiled and turned back towards the sanctum. She entered, and the rocks rolled shut behind her. Her sightless eyes turned upon Asura, who had stood up. She smiled at him and hugged him kindly.

Asura: ...hello.

Ilekea: I missed you.

Asura: Is it lonley for you here?

Ilekea: I chose this life. Consecrated myself to Loloth, I must follow Him without question.

Asura caressed her cheek, leaning down and kissing her tenderly, holding her as close as possible. He had honestly missed her so, often wondering how she was, what she was doing, if she was ok- Even if his life had more imminent danger that hers seemed to have.

Asura: I can make it less lonely.

Ilekea: Mmm.. I'll take you up on that offer.

Several lizard warriors past by the house, pushing another outsider along as they went, and Asura sighed to himself, and Ilekea glanced outside, catching the aura of the outsider.

Asura: Think we should go help?

Ilekea, I'll send one of the younger preistess to go through the initiation with him. I need to go.

Asura: Where?

Ilekea: Home.

She unwillingly pulled herself from him and walked out to her father's seat. He gazed down at the lastest outsider with a look of distain, but did not pass judgement until his daughter appeared.

Lord Taiek: Who is this now?

Lizard: A stranger again...there will be more.

Lord Taiek: .....wonderful.

Ilekea: What is your name outsider?

--: Matt. M'lady.

She acknowledged the title and nodded. He still hadn't seen her blindness, but she would check up on that later. Her mind scaned the crowd and she quickly picked out another of the Loloth preistesses. She used one of their predetermined signals and the young virgin stepped forward. Lord Taiek smiled and spoke once more, then crossed his arms.

Lord Taiek: Follow Senija then when she is through, you must come back here. To me.

Matt: Yes my lord.

He quickly followed....better to obey and live, then to disobey and be spitted.

Trini's eyes snapped open, the stone glowing violently from its place. Trini whispered the words once again. The rock began to beam, its light now lighting up the whole cavern. The light pierced through the walls of the cavern, sending a light straight up into the heavens, through the grey clouds of dawn.

Trini's eyes returned to normal, her hair falling back down into place. Everything else seemed to turn, as if she were in the eye of a hurricane. She took a step up towards the stone, and looked down where a small screen appeared. It began switching from pictures of all sides of the island, and in the skies of the boundaries of the triangle.

She jolted her hand above the screen, which stopped the moving picture immediately. She leaned closer to the picture, as the picture zoomed in for her. She saw a picture of a young man, and a few others sitting at the shore. She moved her hand slowly to the left, to see another odd object, long in size, monsterous in height. Trini took a step away from the screen, as the whirls subsided, and the light dimmed instantly.

What was it?

With calm sure steps, Ilekea left the group and headed past the sancum and the village, until she reached a long low hanging waterfall. She pushed aside the branches of the palms and entered the side grotto. Moving quickly, she crawled inside and sat down on the futon. Her hair shook itself free and she brushed it with a branch....

Then she laid down and stared, unseeing, up at the ceiling....water dripped down the sides and into the stone jars placed at intervals. She closed her eyes....not like it mattered. And waited.

Asura: Miss me?

She responded by biteing him hard on the ear, followed by his neck, her fierceness causeing him to smile to himself, yet greatly aroused him. She traced down from his neck, to his chest, and back up, biteing him once more almost like a vampire would..

She smiled....to herself, and partly for his benefit. Although she couldn't see him, and his aura was muted in this place...it was practically screaming out for her mind to take advantage of. He gasped as she dug her nails in, and he pinched her ruefully.

They held eachother quietly for some time, and he looked down. Not only was she fast asleep, but she was also moving her lips in her sleep...he smiled. Her eyes were wide open, staring vacantly, but they didn't bother him much. After knowing her for so long, they didn't bother him much, even if they bothered the normal villages....even her father.

Ilekea feigned sleep, enjoying the tendrils of his aura twisting around her darkly. She sighed and rolled her neck slowly, still appearing to be asleep.

She was like a Goddess, really- She looked the part, she acted the part. He wanted to bask in this moment forever, and he knew it seemed to be lasting that long. Silently, he carressed her cheek, lightly touching it so as not to wake her. He whispered lightly to himself, still believing her to be asleep.

Asura: Maybe i'll settle here someday.. and just do jobs from here, so she wont have to be as lonely.

He debated it within his mind, his more eccentric side battleing with his more adult, mature side. His eyes traced along the walls as he thought, subconsiously still carressing her cheek. As he did, she stirred lightly, still asleep he assumed. As they layed there, his thoughts drifted to the village- This Tribe was a warlike tribe, and he knew that soon they would go to war with another nearby village of Lizards. It was one of the reasons he had come here, actually. Hopefully, he'd be able to help them out, so as to ensure that she would be alright during it- As if she needed his help in that regard. Still, he had been deathly worried that this village had already gone to war, and perhaps..

He shoved it out of his mind, fadeing back into the euphoric state that he had been in before, holding her lovingly as he closed his eyes to rest his mind.

He was fast asleep, that she could tell...his aura had muted itself to the point where she could barely sense him.... Carefull, she slid out of his grasp and padded silently out of the grotto. With a simple movement, she slid into the warm waters of the waterfall and relaxed. It was the gift of being a goddess, be alone, and not be alone. He cared for her, and she loved it. His kindness. It touched her.

She always loved the way he tried to look out for her. And the way he worried. Although he couldn't see it, she knew he was worried....and the thought tickled her, made her want to smile.

Matt shifted the backpack's weight on his shoulders. He had followed this priestess, from her dress that was all he could assume, out of the town and into this forest. While the heat in the town was insufferable...the chill in this odd forest seeped into his bones. He buttoned up his suit coat and enjoyed the meagre warmth it gave.

'So,' he said, 'where are we going, exactly?'

The priestess in front pulled a branch aside and stepped through a natural arch. Matt followed, lugging his suitcase with him.

'Wow...' he said in wonder, 'all these murals. Must be centuries old...'

Matt fumbled with the clasps on his luggage and pulled out a small film camera. He adjusted the flash and took photos of the gloom. The priestess winced at the light and motioned for him to put the camera away.

Matt grudgingly obliged and joined her near a bowl filled with some red liquid. He peered into it. Must be some type of berry juice... He took a sniff...odd...berry juice doesn't smell like that. He knew the smell. But how to place it...

'I know this...' he muttered. Something clicked and he took a step back, abhorred. 'It's blood! How vulgar!'

The priestess raised and eyebrow and took his hand, taking it towards the bowl.

'Uh-uh, no way,' Matt said as he snatched his hand back, 'you can keep your kooky customs! I'm outta here!'

Matt hurriedly shoved his camera back in his bag and grabbed the luggage before flying out of the grove.

She smiled and pointed her hands towards the door. It snapped shut in front of Matt's face...and he whirled around...like a cornered beast. Her body twisted in an arch and she reached for the blood. He backed away...but it was too late. The entire basin splashed across his body, and he groaned...sinking to his knees.

Not only had she sped up the process, she had mixed the oil into it as well.

In her waterfall, Ilekea sat up straight and switched on her Sight. It appeared the newcomer was more afraid of blood than anything else. She smiled and sent her orders to the preistess. The young girl sighed and made the symbol of the trinity before Matt could move.

Matt: What are you doing?!?

Matt didn't like this at all. Some crazy fanatic was making signs over him after having thrown blood over his body. He tried to get to his feet and run, but his arms and legs felt cold and stiff. He couldn't move...the room swirled and threatened to vanish into blackness. He suddenly felt tired...so very tired...he shook his head.

'Wha...what's going on..'

Matt blinked furiously, a static blackness ate away corners of his sight. His face felt very hot. The logical part of his mind popped up and began spouting reason.

Look mate...you haven't eaten anything since the crash other than that coconut. You've been walking around in the sun with barely a litre of water in you...not to mention the sun. You've just gotten sick from heat exposure...that's all...

Matt blinked. This was weird. This was beyond kooky. Right now he would have loved to be sitting in one of those boring conferences that never end...rather than lying under a waterfall with some crazy island lady staring at him.

If the grove was cold, it was nothing compared to this water. He was expecting little chunks of ice to start forming in it. Unable to stand the cold anymore, he stepped back into the grove, water squelching in his now clean suit.

'One extremity to another.' he glanced at the priestess. 'Look, I'm getting off this ride now. Thankyou for your wonderful hospitality, but I'm leaving. I've had more than enough of this stuff.'

Matt squeezed the water out of his clothes, wringing it out onto the ground. Satisfied, he picked up his pack and luggage and made his way across to the closed door.

'Where's the handle...'

Matt turned back to the priestess.

'Oi, if you don't mind me asking, would you be so kind as to open this door for me?'

The priestess's eyes shined as she said,

'The door will not open until the ritual is complete.'

Matt sighed.

'Not meaning to be rude, I'm sure this ritual of yours is very important, but you can find someone else to bung this rubbish onto. Now, if you could please open this door and I'll be out of your hair forever. Well, until I get a rescue pick up. Then you'll never hear from me again...'
