Senija: ...sorry. That technology of yours will not work.

He looked down, disbelieveing. There was no way it couldn't work....she smiled and quietly began the incantation. His clothes immediatly dried out and he looked at himself. The cold and heat had vanished.

Senija: Hungry?

Matt raised an eyebrow, 'no not hungry, just very, very creeped out and annoyed.'

His stomach made an angry hungry sound.

Matt sighed and said,

'Alright, I lie. I'm starving. Just lead the way already.'

Matt slipped his PDA out of a pocket in his backpack. It started up fine and was working perfectly. He looked down at it nestled perfectly in his palm... The inbuilt mobile phone popped up and read the message:

You are out of a servicable area, please contact your distributor and try again at another time.

'Hurray.' he thought, 'Well at least everything else works...and I doubt she'd know anything about satellite communications....I doubt anyone here knows a damn thing about them...'

The priestess looked back at him, as though knowing what he was thinking. She shook her head and motioned for him to follow her.

Asura: ..! Ilekea? Hm. How long was I asleep?

Getting himself up off the floor, he glanced around idlely, stretching from side to side. He guessed he had been asleep around 7 minutes, but there was no way to be sure, so he walked out of the grotto, reaching to his side to a small canister of sake. Takeing a long sip of it, he let out a sigh of contentment before placeing the canister firmly back into the belt..

Ilekea: Sharing is caring Asura.

She spoke out of the corner of her mouth.... And he whipped his head around, shocked. Her voice was low and calm, and he guessed her position correctly. Lying down on the side of the rock wall, legs folded behind her gracefully. She smiled and winked at him.

Asura: ...I thought you weren't allowed to drink.

Ilekea: I was kidding. But somebody is coming...who will want to drink.

Asura: That outsider boy?

Senija: Yes, this outsider boy.

She appeared from the sanctum, Matt behind her. He looked none the worse for his ordeal...but slightly pissed. Ilekea raised her head from her folded arms and looked at him distainfully.

Ilekea: ....lovely.

Asura: He resisted?

Matt: Of course I did! I didnt want anything to do with these costoms- And look what happened.

Asura glanced at Ilekea who, oddly, looked mildly amused at this. He stepped back and sat down, Matt glanceing around with the same look of disdain for what was happening to him. Asura felt somewhat sorry for the man, but knew that it was all neccesary for all the outsiders to do- For the way out, didnt exist.

Or did it?

In all his jobs across this 'nation' that was held together by bloodlines, he had seen several mysterious ends to his adventures pointing to such a way out. Of course, he had been born here, and would never leave. But for the poor outsiders that were thrown into the extreme mystery of this island, he knew that they would rather be stuck back in whatever world that was outside.

Snapping out of his train of thought, he focused on the conversation at hand..

Ilekea: If we didn't do that to you...Matthew...

Senija: You would die. Quickly.

Matt: You're lying.

Ilekea: No. If we left you to the elements of this place. The trinity would surround you....and you would quickly become a mindless puppet..under the control of either Loloth, Henisa, or Mechery.

Matt: Prove it.

She sighed and rose to her feet....then she swept her arm around her shoulder and sighed endlessly. The mark of the trinity appeared around her forehead and quickly moved forward to base itself at Matt's feet.

Matt raised an eyebrow. First pathetic stories and now light shows. He glanced around looking for the mirror reflecting the symbol moving towards his feet. In his search, he caught Asura's eye.

Asura smiled, Matt felt a constricting pain around his throat. A choking sound burst from his lips as he raised his hands to find a strangler that wasn't there. His heart raced and everything suddenly felt louder. The room was swirling...he fell to his knees, still holding his throat.

Do you believe now...?

Matt looked up at Ilekea, her voice was in his head, her lips weren't moving...

Matt shook his head...there was no way he'd give into this...he fell forward onto his hands...the grip was tighter, he could only draw gasps...the room was out of focus...hold on...hold on...

Now do you believe? Her voice was stronger now, Matt could feel it gushing through his mind. Do you give in? One nod and this will all be over...

Matt coughed, it was a dry, raking cough, 'never...' he managed to utter.

Asura looked surprised, the last one that had gone through this wasn't this arrogant...or brave. one of the two...Asura suddenly felt to lean to the former as Matt struggled to his feet. His face was red now. Any second now and Matt's head would pop.

The trinity mark grew brighter and Matt buckled to his knees, now unable to draw any kind of breath at all.

You have so little time to live...give in now and you may survive.

Matt felt delirious, Ilekea seemed to be glowing so many different colours at once. The voice ran through his head...he felt consciousness slipping away...he gave a feeble nod and fell spluttering to the ground.

The mark faded.

Matt rolled over onto his back, breathing heavily, blood receding from his face to a healthy pallor.

Ilekea stepped down from her platform and touched his face gently. He looked up, hardly able to raise his head. Her eyes glowed, the insiduous liquid silver he had only noticed once before. She smiled and touched his lips with her figners.

He felt life quickly return into his deadened limbs. Her body glowed and the light entered his body.... He stood up unaided. Ilekea stepped back, and Asura put his arm around her shoulders.

Senija: I told you....

Matt: ....

Ilekea: You resisted for a very long time. I'm rather impressed....even if it was partially foolishness.

Asura: You're either half stupid, or half eccentrically arrogant. I cant decide which half..

Matt: Well what did you expect from me? A nod and a smile to all this suddenly thrown at me?

Matt seemed angrier- Either at his damaged ego, or at the frustration he was feeling. Silently Asura tilted his head to the side, exhaling a sigh. Some of these outsiders were so arrogant to the magic that the Islanders weaved, almost as an art.

Asura: You look tired, Matt. Maybe you should sleep this all off?

Riana waited in the room for quite a while. The two priestesses seemed to be conducting another ceremony.
Riana was not sure how to feel about this place. She didn't know where she was,first of all,but the people seemed nice enough. She thought of Ilekea, the woman was powerful,yet very gentle. Even Riana's human senses could feel the the incomprehensible power radiating from her.
The priestesses got up and looked her over.
Riana knew how she looked: damp,muddy,smelling of the oil of initation.
One of the women shook her head. She grabbed Riana's hand and all but dragged her to an adjoining place. A large pool was centered in the room,on the edge were oils and a few waxy looking cakes of soap.
Riana discarded her luggage to a corner and went on to cleanse herself.
After that, she was taken outside. Riana felt cleaner and more acceptable.
"wait here." said the priestess. "We will be with you shortly."
***********
Riana walked around, admiring the place. These people sure knew how to build.
A noise came from the brush behind her. Riana turned.
A brown and tawny creature jumped out. It looked feline and it was an animal Riana recognized.
"A Tasmanin Tiger." she breathed. "But....you're extinct....aren't you?"
The tiger looked her over. Riana stiffened as he came forth.
A high whistle sounded at the same time and the tiger turned.
A red robed man caught the tiger by a leash Riana hadn't noticed. With him was an unpleasent looking man with robes of rich blue. Tokens of rank decorated his clothes.
"Lord's counciller." the man introdued his status. he never said his name.

Matt: I don't need therapy.

Ilekea: ....I've had enough of this.

She whipped her head around, hair flying in a wave of light. Her hand opened and thousands of small grains of energy flew from her hands to fly into his face.

Ilekea: Sleep dust.

Matt: Wha-?

[Senija quickly caught hs falling form and dragged him to a nearby bed. Ilekea sighed and shook her head.

Meanwhile, in a world not so far away

Matt's father replaced the phone in it's cradle.

'So what's the news from Matt?' called Matt's mother from the other room.

'Nothing. Matt's plane was lost, it just vanished without a trace...that was the board of directors from the company Matt was working at. They lost about fifty of their employees on that flight. They've already started a man hunt....but to no avail. The satellite tracing beacon isn't responding or something...'

Matt's father sighed and dropped down onto the couch.

'We've been told to expect the worst. If the plane has vanished without a trace...its likely that its on the bottom of the deepest trench in the ocean...if nothing comes up in three months, they're going to call off the search and a funeral will be held...'

~~~~~
Matt's body dozed, but his spirit seemed disjointed, restless even. Matt's dreams became steadily more odd...the plane underwater, sealed and filled with sixty odd people...dead and floating like ghosts.
Well they were ghosts...
So much for that conference eh Matt? chuckled one spirit, the barrister that was seated next to him when the flight hit the ocean.
Matt nodded stiffly.
Odd ain't it eh? muttered another, plenty of flights have made it safely over the Bermuda Triangle, why I've been just talking to our stewardess here, she's made this flight two hundred and three times, all safe and well.
The stewardess nodded,
Yeah, this time it was real weird like, I was talking to the captain and he said the plane felt non-responsive, then all electrical cut out...he tried his best to fly manually and prolly saved a couple lives...but look at him now...he can't even drown his sorrows...
The elder of the two preistesses dismissed the younger with another swift symbol and the younger departed quickly. Ilekea walked back into the grotto and sat down on the futon, rubbing her temples. Asura sat down next to her, half up and half lying down.
Asura: Why are they coming out all of a sudden?
Ilekea: I don't know. Maybe Loloth or one of the others has some idea.
Asura: It's driving you mad?
Ilekea: No. I've claimed my own. The other preistesses will take care of anyone else.
Asura: Not to drift offtopic, but do you know of any good job offerings round here?
Asura shifted, raising his hand and summoning his hammer, it appearing in his hands. He twirled it with one hand a few times, idlely stareing at the wall, eyes drifting about as he fidgeted with the hammer. He glanced at Ilekea, whos face was locked in thought.
Ilekea: Something dangerous, knowing you. Correct?
Asura: It would make it more fun.
Ilekea: Nothing that I've heard of.
Asura: Damn.. looks like you're stuck with me then.
Waxing melodramatic, Ilekea threw a wrist across her forehead and draped herself back into his arms gracefully.
Ilekea: Oh dear Loloth, whatever shall I do?!?
Asura: Um....
She chuckled and stood up normally again.... He grinned and she smiled broadly....
Ilekea: I retract the question. I know exactly what to do.
Asura: And that is?
Ilekea: Sit down.
Asura: ....okay.
She smiled mischeviously and sat down next to him....then slid her legs around, and hugged him tightly..... Then she leaned over and bit his neck. Hard.
Riana kept looking at the man untill she realized this would be rude. She immediately blinked and bowed.
"You are the outsider?" the man asked.
"I am not from around here, if that's what you mean....your...lordship." Riana wasn't sure how to talk to someone as intimidating as this counciller.
"There was another with you?" asked the man.
"Not that I know of...sir." Riana kept on feeling awkward. Maybe it was an affect of this place.
The red robed man, weilding the tiger spoke. "She might be one of the technical workers. She doesn't have any special powers."
Riana blinked in surprise. Technical worker? She didn't expect these primitive looking people to even have heard of the term.
The counciller scoffed. "You have heard of the term, I hope?"
Riana nodded. "I don't work here.....I work back home. I will soon get back there, I hope."
"Back to the outside?" the counciller and his servent laughed as though they just heard the funniest joke.
"You aren't leaving." said the red robed man.
Riana swallowed. Her eyes widened. "I'm not? But Ilekea..."
"....has already tied you down here." said the counciller. "You can't leave after the initiation, plus, we can't allow you to take our secrets with you."
Matt sneezed and woke up. He rubbed his head as though trying to reach the dream floating around inside. And what an odd dream it was...
Feeling the need for some air, the groggy Matt stepped out into the village. The air was fresh and clear, unlike the recycled carbon monoxide variety in the cities.
He smiled to himself. Some form of sense had been knocked back into his head. This could be the long needed vacation. He could kick back here for a while, delve into this weird arcane stuff and then get out of here.
Matt stretched and yawned. This may just turn out to be a bit of fun after all.
Matt returned for his luggage and sat himself on the most prominent and highest point of the nearby mountain. He then began setting up his small satellite dish.
The modem dialled.
A satellite locked on.
The modem continued dialling.
The connection was complete.
The modem stopped dialling and Internet explorer popped up.
The satellite dish beside him sparked, a purple spark, and fell over on it's own accord. The connection was lost.
Matt sighed and folded up his laptop, unaware of what happened to his little dish.
Satellite must have shifted again...more interference from space matter most probably..
Purple smoke wafted off the dish beside him, and disappated into the breeze that arose from no where.
Matt packed up his gear and wandered down to the village.
Huge brown eyes snapped open and Ilekea growled. She detangled herself from Asura's close embrace and left him sleeping in her bed. She rose to her feet and fastened on her usual attire. Then she brushed out her hair and tied it back.
Ilekea: Somebody is talking about me.
Asura stired in his sleep, but didn't wake up. She hissed and padded through the grotto silently...then entered the village again. Once inside, she switched on her other Sight and looked around. The Chancillor was nowhere to be found. As usual. But she could smell something that was entirely out of place, and terribly wrong. Riana stared at her when Ilekea called out, and didn't move to greet her. Ilekea raised an eyebrow and walked over.
Ilekea: I take it you've met our Chancillor.
Riana: How did you-?
Ilekea: If we are to speak of this, there are only two places we can go. Follow me.
Riana hesitated.
"I really would like to explain." said Ilekea, softly.
Riana sighed and followed. The priestess walked briskly to a row of temples and disappeared into one. Riana stood outside, for she didn't know what Ilekea would do. She looked down and found herself standing on some intricate pattern.
She suddenly felt a rising feeling, deep in her chest. It expanded to form fear. Riana began to step back as the feeling kept growing.
Ilekea at once stepped outside and pushed the girl away from the design she was standing on.
"You're not ready to be in His presence," she said. "You are still too ...." She didn't finish.
Ilekea led Riana to one of the smaller temples. On one wall there stood a carving. It was a being of many faces, Riana couldn't make out a specific pattern.
"Loloth." said Ilekea. "My god."
"But you said..." Riana was confused.
"That other shrine was where he is in his full power, the feelings He can directly invoke....it would be overwelming." said Ilekea. "Now, about what the Chancillor said....."
She sat down on one of the stone benches and Riana joined her. Her hair waved slightly in the breeze, and for a moment, she looked like she was about to invoke a killing spell, then the moment passed.
Ilekea: I know this. The Chancillor has always longed for great power. But he has never matched me or the other two high preistesses.
Riana: You have other gods?
Ilekea: There is mine, Loloth of fear and also war. Henisa, the Creator god of hope and justice. And then there is Mechery, godess of love and peace.
Riana: And he wants your strength?
Ilekea: I can peer into the minds of others for a time, sense their power. But it is only because I am half a spirit.
She closed her eyes and brushed her hair out of her fae again. If he was plotting against them, it would be very bad.
Ilekea: Do not listen to him, or give him any information. He would use it against you.
Slowly, his eyes slid open again, and once again he was alone. Lazily, he slid down into a more comfortable postion, closeing his eyes with a look of relaxation on his face. He lay there for a few moments, before finally hopping up and walking casually out of the Grotto, rubbing his eyes with his right hand as he did. Noteing that Ilekea was doing something important, he glanced in a few directions to see if his luck would hold that she was in the immediate area- But, she didnt seem to be, so he stepped back into the grotto and layed back down.
Asura: This is quickly turning into a vacation..
He slid down a bit, folding his arms across his stomach, and let out another yawn. His eyes were slowly losing the battle against consiousness, as days of walking, running, and fighting finally caught up with him, causeing him to be burdened with a sudden urge to just sleep, his fatigue ridden mind yelling at him.
Asura: ... For once, i'll yield... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
Only the sound of his slow breathing followed his comment..
Having said that, Ilekea stood up abruptly and looked behind her with sightless eyes. Her hand automatically went up and her lips prepared a dark spell. The Chancillor knew he would not be able to fight her back at the moment, and disapeared back where he came from. Ilekea had seen him, and his folly had been large enough to where Riana saw him as well. Ilekea turned and sat back down.
Ilekea: Not to boast, but you see what I mean now.
Riana: Is he another one of those power hungry antagonists?
Ilekea: ...I understand you have many in your world.
Riana: Yes, unfortunately. We have more, but alot of us are like that without even realizing it.
The smooth skinned preistess stood up and held out a hand. Riana stood as well. She smiled at her softly.
Ilekea: I need to go now. And you need to find a permanant home. You can not go to the temples of Loloth. Ever.
Riana: Why? Didn't the initiation?
Ilekea: I consecrated you to the Trinity.....not to Loloth himself. Many make that mistake. But you need to go to another for guidance.
Riana: ...one of the other preistess?
Ilekea: Yes. Her name is Trini, and she is the preistess of Mechery. She will help you gain the power you need to live here.
