I don't know if it's just me or if the gaming industry is getting out of control. They are seriously making games out of anything nowadays, which I suppose isn't always a bad thing. For instance listen to this article I read:

Playboy Entertainment Inc has announced a plan to create, market and distrubute games worldwide across all formats. Planned for release in 2004, the first game planned is a sim, which sees players taking on the role of the company's founder Hugh Hefner, building the Playboy Empire and living the lifestyle. Hmmm? Could be interesting ;)... VERY interesting

They are picking on every movie coming out now and even older releases of films are getting turned into games now. What are your opinions on gaming industry going too far (even though it is good thing at times :) )? Do you know of any other incidences that are a bit crazy or which you think are stupid? I think bringing new consoles out so early is a bit stupid, but that's my opinion.

Thanks ... Grant :naughty:

Sex sells. It's a fact. Example, BMX XXX is an awful game, but people bought it because it involves nudity. DOA:Volleyball will sell, because it includes semi-naked women. These games are being made, because they can be. It's as simple as that. If I had enough money, I would make a game about me, running around mowing the lawn. It wouldn't sell, but it would still be there. Hugh Hefner has money coming out of his ears, so he might as well have a bit of a laugh by releasing agame. I think it actually sounds quite fun, but it should be on PC, or released with a mouse for ps2/xbox/gcn.

Good point Alex. I also feel that if you have the money, why not spend it in something that'll sell. Well lets be honest here, you see some near naked images anywhere, and it'll catch your attention. Even if you're not in that type of mood, it'll occur. So really, yes it is getting out of hand, but really, if it becomes out of control, the games'll end up banned. Like the getaway for instance, I was shocked to see topless strippers in it. though digital sprites arent very arousing, lol.

Well, games based on popular television shows, films, and comic books have been common for as long as I can recall. Do you remember E.T for Atari? Or Gremlins, Rambo, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the Nintendo? It's all elementary. Mainstream entertainment mediums already have an established fan base. So, designers who acquire popular licenses don't have to establish fans; they're already going to purchase a product for name value alone.

That's where the movie-to-video game "curse" comes in. Developers tend to be a little lax, because they know that they don't need an interesting twist in play mechanics, or a quality product to push them through on sales charts. There are exceptions to be sure, like Goldeneye, but I'm always wary about buying a game based on a popular license.

As for the Playboy game, that is going a bit too far. We've seen blood and gore exploited in gaming. Sex has always been teased at, but I think that the video game industry is really discovering it and marketing it to its fullest now. When sexual themes are used in mature ways, I don't mind. But when they're mindlessly exploited in games like BMX XXX, I take offense as a gamer.

I honestly don't see a Playboy game having a lot of substance. Who the heck would want to play as an old relic like Hugh Hefner?

I saw this pc game it was like a virtual dancer and you just played like gambling games such as strip poker and then she would like strip for you etc, they also had this other game when you went around with a vibrator and you came up to a women and ( well you can figure out the rest.) They actually put this game on sale it was called like erotic island or something but im not sure if it sold or not.

Woah that is a pretty awful game, but games like that I'm sure don't make much profit ... Don't see the point really what do they do it for publicity?

I don't know how this Playboy game will end up it could be funny, but erotica is a bad way to advertise people into buying games. I must say I'm guilty (please don't hurt me), I bought BMX XXX, I mean it's not the worst game in the world and the videos were what attracted me to the game. It was just for a laugh (best to rent the game as if you want to watch videos you can use cheats, but its not great!).

Anyone else thought of games that were plain stupid?

from what I've heard, the BMX XXX videos arn't that good. Plus, don't you have to actually play the game to unlock them? But playboy, that's just stupid. But, there was also another game that comes to mind when I think of these games. Hooters Road Trip for PS1. Apparently, you drive around in hot rods and sports cars, going to Hooters resturants. All I have to say about that is: What the frook?

LOL we don't even have hooters in England so I doubt that got released here. Yeah you do have to unlock them in challenges which can be fun, but if all your getting it for is to watch the videos then you should rent it and use cheats (which I didn't do), but it is rather easy to complete so you may not need cheats if your talented enough.

Other games that are stupid are like Barbie ones. They are trying to attract everyones attention nowadays (which I suppose is a good thing, but I don't like it). Also Who Wants to be a Millionaire attracting everyone who watches the show. I just like the old generation of just plain computer games, but it doesn't really effect me in anyway it's just an opinion. Is the internet on gaming consoles too far or just a step up in this new day and age of gaming?

These are all good examples of game producers using their licenses to create more and ore money. It's like THQ, with the WWE licsense, they might as well milk it for all it's worth. Barbie games may not appeal to you, but these consoles have young fans too, especially the PSOne, so these games must be selling.

That's quite different from what we're discussing. The WWE titles are classified as sports games. Like the Madden or NFL 2K games, their developers are able to update them yearly due to the fact that they only have to make adjustments to an existing engine. Because the sports genre is so competitive, the yearly updates are usually a pretty good step forward in one way or another.

About BMX...it doesn't matter how poor the game is. The fact of the matter is that sex and BMX are not interrelated. The inclusion of nudity and vulgar language was just a marketing ploy to make up for the game's obvious shortcomings, unfortunately.

That's true about sports genre maybe an update on the roster or add in a few extra features to the game, but there are alot of games with vulgar language which are actually pretty decent games. I think nudity is definetely in games trying to improve the game's poor quality by throwing in some naked ladies, but wouldn't that just scare of most of the girl players out there who say enjoy a simple BMX game. It's stupid and a cheap way of advertising BMXs.

Anyway onto the what next topic the latest information on stupid stuff is Imporium Labs creating a games console way before we have this advanced technology they are talking about having. I mean Imporium Labs is that some kind of joke lol ... with downloadable games and pay per play which would put most people off!
Also Make Your Move,Inc are creating a console, but as they are usually known for making board games and other educational gear, then this games console will obviously be for kids although they persist in saying they will be creating a wide variety of games for all ages groups ... yeah right! I'm sure these consoles won't even make it to the market and even if they do they will plunk right down the drain. Waste of time and money if you ask me. :smirk:

Anyone else heard anything else bizarre and utter crazy or too advanced in are generation of technology?

Well, you'll find it's Infinium Labs Cajones, not Imporium! Well, as far as ridiculous console ideas go, I think the lame Phantom tops my list.
I think a console that teaches young kids while they enjoy games is a very good idea, but it will probably be overpriced so I doubt it will say.By the way, It looks like that Playboy game is coming to X Box. Woo Hoo...not.

Oh yeah sorry, thanks for correcting me there. Phantom is too advanced for this year ... Maybe three. A console that teaches kids maybe a good idea, but kids may not enjoy it really. IT maybe pricey too as you said.

Yeah as I said the playboy game is going to multi-formatted so heading on Gamecube, PS2 and X-Box at least.

More one what next news is- someone tying there best mate up with a vacuum and stabbing him 60 odd times over a computer game (hmm talk about bad loser).

Headlines- Shock! Videogames make you violent (heads torn off, children think it's 'cool') , New word coined for game-related injury (games cause hand pains), Videogames cause epilepsy (only makes it worse to people who have it), Videogames can cure ADD (helps sufferers pay attention more), Videogames are 'lowbrow' (starving 'real' artists scoff at games), Videogames make you more intelligent (enough said), and finally Gaming kills you (someone playing non-stop for 86 hours and someone for 32 hours died, also someone else shot themselves over the online game Everquest).

Thought I would tell you some headlines I've found as a good what next presentation! Interesting hey? :demon:

I find these porn based games really god damn crap. They are pointless, I mean, Private Dancer for the PC, what the hell is the point? All these silly little teenagers thriving on free porn. Calm down guys, it's only a few semi naked ladies!
