Teen Titans

From the people who made FOX's Batman: The Animated Series, WB's Superman, The New Batman Adventures, The Batman/Superman Adventures, Batman Beyond, Static Shock and Cartoon Network's Justice League (and a few other series I don't feel like naming) comes another animated series based off the DC comic book francise... coming this summer.

The Teen Titans

Batman's sidekick, Robin, leads a group of young teenaged heroes in their ongoing battle against crime and evil. The Titans are Robin (The Boy Wonder), Starfire (an alien princess), Beast Boy (a boy who changes into... beasts), Cyborg (half man, half machine), and Raven (a cloaked girl with strange powers).

Who's heard of the Teen Titans before? I'd never heard of them until I read a news report about this series. I did a little research just to figure out who the heck Beast Boy, Raven, and Starfire were. Everybody knows Robin, and Cyborg was on The Superfriends. Isn't there a resident comic book expert around here?

*raises hand in pride of his comic book geekdom*

They've been around for a while now, probably a little less than the Justice Leauge (about 20-30 years). The original group was composed of Justice League sidekicks (Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder Girl and Speedy (Green Arrow's sidekick)).

Beast Boy comes from a comic called "Doom Patrol" and has the power to become any animal, Raven is precognitive, and Starfire is an alien princess who was once engaged to Robin (the original Robin, Dick Grayson, before he became Nightwing). I don't read Teen Titans much so I'm limited as to how much I know.

Supposedly, due to Justice Leagues' success, this cartoon will debut next fall and will take place sometime in the future, like Batman Beyond but not that far into the future, and with a lighter tone.

What I find so weird is that the Robin in the cartoon will be Tim Drake. If Dick Grayson gets engaged to Starfire, then why would they put her in the cartoon at Tim's age?

The WB and Cartoon Network sure have broadened(sp?) my limited knowledge on DC comics (I haven't read DC since Superman died, and even then I was a Marvel fan).
