G.D. Ryoko
:babble: I read two manga graphic novels. Pne is called "Call Me Princess" and the other is "Mai The Phsyic Girl". Besides my friends I feel like I am the only person who reads graphic novels. Please tell me I am not alone. That there are others that also read graphic novels. If I am not alone however tell me about some of the novels that you have read.:wigout:

Semjaza
I think most anyone into anime has read one at some point. I'm not super into anime, although I like it. I much prefer manga (and American graphic novels as well). Mostly anything by Masamune Shirow... Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, etc. I also have a good deal of Ranma 1/2 novels and smaller issues. American wise... Mostly stuff by Frank Miller (Ronin in particular). That and Grendel Tales (which is excellent). Death and Preacher are also quite good. amiboshi
I don't know exactly what graphic novels are, I guess. O.o A lot of stores called the manga section "Graphic novels", though. I've read lotsa manga. ^^;; I just finished Saint Tail, and I just read most of Planet Ladder... I prefer manga highly to anime, actually. Plus there's a lot more really good shoujo manga than anime, and the art tends to be prettier. ^-^

Semjaza
Graphic novels are more or less just really big comics. Some only come out in novel form, while some originally come out in the smaller issues and then are put into graphic novels later on as compilations. Same thing with manga really.
Oh, okay. That's what I thought it was, but everyone made them sound like something else. O.o I also buy graphic novels... I read them really fast, so I'd rather wait for a graphic novel version than the dinky monthly comics. >.< I like Tokyopop the best for Graphic novels... They're pretty consecutive with their releases (most release the next volume every 2 months). I can't stand Viz anymore. They do Fushigi yugi and Inu-Yasha, and they just take forever. >.< Animerica Extra has printed WAY past volume 7 already... >.>
Queen Asuka
I read Graphic novels, myself. My two favorite series are Paradise Kiss and Chobits. Volume 4 of ParaKiss just came out a few weeks ago and I haven't got to get it yet. Chobits comes out in like two weeks! I'm so excited! I really wish Tokyo Pop wouldn't put such long periods of time in between the releases of their novels.

U.U It kills me to have to wait so long for the next issue, but it's better than some companies. ^^;; I want Parakiss 4... I haven't seen it yet, either. Dragon Knights 6 should be out soon.... And kare kano 1 comes out on the 21st! Yeah! I already read it, but I'm gonna buy all the manga just to support it! ^^; *kare kano forever* I lost interest in Chobits a good deal, but I'll probably get volume 4 anyway.:whoops:
Semjaza
My only problem with graphic novels are the prices. I know in the long run it's cheaper than buying 20 smaller issues... But paying up to $40 (in some cases, although they seem to average $16 to $25) is just too much. I simply can't afford to buy as many as I'd like. At least Lone Wolf and Cub is only $10 a book. Where do you guys get yours at? It seems like a lot of the Borders and Barnes and Nobles around here are really cutting back on the amount of manga they carry... Some seemed to have stopped completely.
Hinata
Finally two people that think the way I do...ooopps sorry I should make that three. I'm right now in the middle of 3 series of Mangas, or Graphic Novels however you look at it. I'm reading Chobits, Fushugi Yugi and Love Hina. And I'm mad because I haven't finish one yet!!! But I can't wait for FY to come out with the next one..as well as Chobits!!!! Less than one month till Volume 4!!!! But the price I think is pretty decent!! Just think of the price of a reg. comic. about $5 and its only about 40 pages. While the Mangas are about 100-200pgs!!! Hey I think its worth 10-15 bucks!!!
amiboshi
Yeah, $16 for one volume is hard for me to pay sometimes, because I finish them so fast, then I don't have enough cash for the next volume for 2 fore weeks... -_- But my love for Tokyopop also comes from their prices. XD Only $10 a book, and they're good sizes now, too. The old ones were a bit small, but their new ones are a better size, and still cheap. ^_^ I go to Borders and MediaPlay for my manga... Borders doesn't have as much new stuff as MediaPlay (plus MediaPlay released manga before the real release date) but between the two stores, and I fill most of the series I want. ^^;; MediaPlay always has Animerica Extra, too, so I just pick that up every month and read the FY installment, the put it back. lol. That's really all I like in it, but I can't get emotional when I'm sitting in a public area, that would be rather odd to start crying with everyone looking at me. ^^;;;
Kei
I've been reading many a graphic novel here lately. See, I work at a library, and I finally convinced the YA manager to get some. So far, I've read Cowboy Bebop, Ranma 1/2 (Upperclassman Kumo cracks me up), Love Hina, Battle Angel Alita, Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon S, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and all the Akira mangas. I've become more attached to them than to the animes in some ways because they often go into more detail, especially in Akira's case. We're supposed to be getting Peach Girl and some others here soon, and I'm really looking forward to them, but I am thinking about ordering some from TokyoPop and Viz, 'cause waiting for the things to come back is a pain....
vegeta rocker
16 bucks? That bites, i usually end up paying around 10. Though i saw the ones for X and they were 17 bucks. I was like, ummm how bout no scott. But the ones i enjoy reading are Mars, Inuyasha and of course Great Teacher Onizuka. Oh, i forgot, Sailor Moon too. I bought 11 volumes of Inu-yasha (at $16 a piece), so that kinda put a dent in my wallet. ^^;; But everything's so expensive now... Like anime DVDs.... Most of them are $30. >.> There's yet another reason why I love manga more. lol. I also can't wait for the korean shoujo manga... I.N.V.U. an when Gravitation comes out in June. ^_^ I aalready saw the anime, so I'm glad Tokyopop just licensed it so I can read the maga now. Semjaza
Lady K - Kuno rocks! +_+ amiboshi - What in the world is Mediaplay? Anyway, yeah that was my basic point. $16 might not be bad considering the size compared to $3.99 comics... But I finish 200 page manga within an hour at most. It's hard to justify paying all that money. I wish there was a discount manga store... hehe.

I know MediaPlay is part of some chain or something with Suncoast, Oncue, and Best Buy soon, I believe. They have Replay points, so when I spend enough money, I get $5 off coupon. XD Comes in handy, since I buy so much stuff there. ^^
G.D. Ryoko
sorry I forgot to put a slash when I wrote this thread. Anyway has any one read a graphic novel called 'Love and Peace'? I am looking for it.
Genkai
I have a huge library of manga. Er, forest pixie? All manga are graphic novels, but not all graphic novels are manga, got it?n Graphic novels are novels that use pictures to better convey the image, and word bubbles for diaouge, and that's what manga is.. And there is no word "mangas", the plural is just "manga" Sorry, I'm a know it all sometimess...... Anyway, of COURSE I read manga. Especially the super cheap tokyopop ones.. ^_^
Hinata
HAs anyone read Ragnarok or GTO.. I just got the first VOL. of Ragnarok and it seems to be good. GTO I'm looking at getting but I want to know the opinions about it. I'm also looking at Wish and Angelic Layer but I just haven't had the balls to get em. I know this is'pose to be about Graphic Novels but we might as well mix the Manga in here as well. SO give me some opinions!!!
Queen Asuka
I read the first volume of Ragnarock and part of the second one, but then I could never get my hands on them anymore. The only reason why I had to opportunity is because the guy who sits beside me in chemistry had them and I wanted to look at them and they were pretty good. I got into it, but I never finished. You know, maybe I did finish the second one...I can't remember.

Semjaza
Yay Genkai :). There is no "s" plural of any Japanese word. I've mentioned it before when I first got here, but no one seemed to pay attention heh. There is no mangas, animes or ninjas. Japanese doesn't differentiate between singular and plural in a one word sense like English does. Oh well... It's kind of a lost cause lol. I'm still waiting for Dark Horse to start putting out the second set of Ghost in the Shell manga (it's in small issue/comic form). Was supposed to be out weeks ago :(.
