I've been watching a lot of episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh recently and have become very interested in the card game, I want to start but don't know what to do basically, can someone just dumb everything down for me, like where I can get decks from, how many cards are allowed in a deck, you know, just the simple basics?

Also list stuff like rare cards, etc please

Heh. Lets see.

A deck requires 40 cards.
Organize this anyway yuo wish, but tis good to have an equal balance like 20 monsters, 14 magics, 6 traps.

Decks should and packs should be sold at any local card store. It really depends on whats available to you.
If you plan on getting a deck, you could one of the Yugi or Kaiba starters, but in March the Pegasus and Joey starters will be released. Those will be the better of the four.

For opening attack monsters, make sure they have at least 1800+ attack. (Seven Colored Fish, La Jinn)
Or the card should have really good effect (Like Cyber Jar or Ma-Eater bug)
And maybe if you're using defense, use card with 2000+ defense.

Always be sure to have a deck THEME.
This is the focus of your deck. theOtaku.com has good info about deck themes, but tis really your choice.

Sicne if you fo to theOtaku I won't need to explain the staple cards if you read the deck-building article.
But here is how you telll the rarity of cards.

They are either First Editon or Unlimited.
It will have a mark saying whether or not it is First Edition.

Black or white Letters, no holographic picture:
Common

Silver Letters, no holographic picture:
Normal Rare

Holographic picture, normal writing:
Super Rare

Gold Letters, holographic picture:
Ultra rare

Rainbow letetrs, holographic picture with a "prism" design (You'll know it when you see it)
Promo or Secret Rare (Most likely this one)

If you need mroe help, just ask.
This should give you a good start on what to do.

Another basic thing that I thought was important was the idea of sacrificing. Basically, any monster that is strong, like the Summoned Skull or the Blue Eyes White Dragon, will require tribute to bring onto the field. Any monsters level 4 and under you can just play on the field, but monsters of level 5-6 must have one monster sacrificed to bring them out (like the Summoned Skull). Any monsters level 7 or 8 must have 2 monsters on the field to sacrifice. You must also remember that each monster you sacrifice must have been on the field for at least a turn. That's where magic and trap cards come in, since you can't always keep those monsters alive, there is a humongous variety of magics and traps you can use to protect your monsters.

The theme, as Hypershadow mentioned is also very important. If you just have random wind, earth, fire, dark, or light cards inserted into your deck, it's not very good. It is best to choose one of those or to make a deck revolving around a certain magic/trap or a monster, like Exodia. Many people choose Dark cards, thanks to the many magic cards that can be applied to them.

No, but there is a program. It's called Yu-Gi-Oh Virtual Desktop and you can make your own deck on the computer (any cards in English, doubles are allowed), and type in the other person's IP to duel them. But you have to arrange it with someone and get their IP. I'll try to find a link where you can download it.
