Well, here it goes for my second fanfic. I hope you all enjoy it!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter One: And so it continues?
It was a typical afternoon for Tokyo. The sun was out, the birds singing, the people busily walking by, eager to get on with their lives. Kari had just gotten off work, and was headed back to her apartment. She?d worked for the local Newspaper as a photographer for two years now. Today was her nineteenth birthday. Tai supposedly had a party planned for her. If Kari knew Tai, this should be interesting. As she walked across the street, she wondered if Tai only said he?d planned it, and Sora had done all the work. She smiled to herself as she imagined the looks Sora gave Tai when he acted like that.
Ten minutes later, Kari was at her apartment. She placed her things on the bench beside the front door as usual. She walked into her bedroom and took out a change of clothes. It was only 3pm. She didn?t expect anyone until after 6 that night. So, Kari thought she?d indulge in a hot bubble bath. Indeed she did need it. It had been a stressful day at work, or rather, in the fields covering the soccer championship games. She?d taken some awesome shots though, and they were sure to bring good money.
Kari slipped off her khakis and blouse, and climbed into the already full tub. It felt so good on her tired body. As she lay there, her mind wandered. She thought about the party. Who was coming? What had Tai?um?Sora planned? Would it be like old times? She missed her friends. She still saw Yolei on a regular basis, but Ken was always out doing detective work somewhere. There were the occasional times when their professions crossed paths. She?d done a story on him, since he was the youngest chief detective on the police force. It was good to see Ken, even if it was at a murder scene. Kari laughed to herself over the irony.
The sound of the door opening and then shutting again broke into her thoughts. Kari sat up a bit.
?I?m home!? Davis?s voice called to her.
?I?m in the bath! I?ll be out in a minute!? Kari called back. ?Davis is off work early,? Kari thought to herself. ?Hmmm??
Kari slipped into her Capri pants and her pink shirt. These were her comfortable clothes. She brushed her hair back, and pulled it up in a ponytail. She looked at herself in the mirror. She liked her hair longer. It looked good. Davis was right.
?There?s a rare thing,? Kari laughed at herself. She walked out and found him sitting at the kitchen table looking through some kind of brochure.
?Hey. How was work?? She smiled and sat down next to him.
?Ah, man. Was it ever busy. We had a couple of servers call in sick, so we were kind of short staffed. But, a good manager helps where he can. So, guess what I did all afternoon??
?Waited tables?? Kari replied.
?Yep. How?d you guess?? Davis laughed.
?What?s that you got there?? Kari asked, motioning toward the brochure.
?What, this?? Davis stood, and playfully teased her. ?Wouldn?t you like to know!? He dangled it in front of her, making sure to keep the writing covered.
?No fair! Come on! Let me see! It is my birthday!? Kari struggled.
?I know it is. And that?s why I am going to read this to you!? Davis replied.
?Read it to me?? Kari echoed.
?Mmhmm. Now listen. Two tickets for one round trip flight from Tokyo International Airport to John F. Kennedy Airport, USA.? He flipped to another. ?13 nights in the Raddison Inn Hotel and Suites, New York City.?
Kari gasped. ?Two whole weeks in New York?! Mimi!?
Davis smiled. ?In the Honeymoon suite too! Happy Birthday!?
?But?work?? Kari began.
?I?ve had this planned with them for two months. They know all about it. I got Yolei?s sister looking after the restaurant too. So we?re good to go! We leave tomorrow at noon.? Davis smiled again.
Kari jumped up, and tackled him, but he caught her, and swung her around. They stopped, eyes locked.
?I don?t know what to say. I can?t believe this is happening.? Kari whispered.
?Believe it, babe. We?re going to New York!? Davis leaned in to kiss her, and almost did, but the doorbell rang.
?That would be my brother?at an inopportune time as always.? Kari sighed, and went to answer the door.
?Hey Kari, Davis! How?s it going?? Tai burst in. Sora followed, carrying all sorts of bags of food, and decorations. She?d have said hi too, but she was carrying a bag in her mouth. Kari laughed, and relieved her of four of the bags.
?Do we really need all this?? Kari asked.
?Of course! It?s my little sister?s nineteenth birthday! We gotta have a party!? Tai shouted. Kari leaned over to Sora.
?You didn?t bring any beer did you?? She whispered.
Sora laughed. ?Nope, I conveniently forgot it!?
The doorbell rang again. Davis answered it this time. It was Yolei, and Ken too!
?Ken old buddy! You made it off the force long enough to come!? Davis cheered.
?How?d you manage that one??
?Ah, you know. What with all this government program stuff, crime?s at an all time low. So they could spare me for an evening.? Ken smiled. Kari smiled to. She remembered the day when Ken never smiled. Now it seemed that was all he did.
?I brought some stuff from the store as well. On my employee discount of course!? Yolei chimed. Everyone laughed. No matter how much time passed, Yolei would always be Yolei.
As the evening went on, Matt, Cody, and Izzy showed up as well. Kari was having lots of fun. But something wasn?t right. She couldn?t put her finger on it at first, but then she realized what was wrong. Somebody was missing. Where was he? How had he been? For all she knew, he could be in another country. A part of her longed for him, but not in the same way he?d longed for her. As the party went on, Kari easily dismissed these thoughts.

Chapter 2: A day without Rain
Everyone had gone home from Kari?s party except for Tai and Sora, who had stayed to help clean up. Davis was doing the dishes, and Kari and Sora were straightening the place. Tai was watching the soccer coverage on TV. Kari and Sora were deep in conversation.
?What if I see him?? Kari asked.
?So what? Maybe he?ll actually be glad to see you. You were his best friend.? Sora replied.
?But he didn?t want that. And the last time I saw him??
?I know,? Sora cut in. ?But you have to hope for the best.?
?Funny you should say hope.? Kari remarked. Sora gave a half smile and then started to vacuum.
?I?m trying to watch this!? Tai bellowed.
?Tai, if you?re not careful, you?re going to end up with a pot belly, and sit around gazing at the TV all day long!? Davis teased.
?Oh, be quiet,? Tai playfully sulked.
?So how?s the soccer team gonna be this year?? Davis asked.
?I got my eyes on the Odaiba team. They?ve really made a comeback. I don?t think they?ve been this good since Ken played for them!? Tai replied. Davis laughed, and put the last of the dishes away.
?Well, I guess we?ll be going now,? Tai said standing up. Kari walked over to her brother and hugged him.
?Thanks for a great party Tai.?
Sora coughed a bit.
?I figure you had a hand in it too,? Kari said sarcastically, glancing back at Tai. She hugged Sora as well, and the two walked out the door. Davis walked over to Kari.
?I got one more little gift for you too,? he said slyly.
?Oh you do. And just what would this ?little? gift be?? Kari chuckled.
Davis blushed. ?That?s no fair! I didn?t mean it that way! Ugh!?
?Left yourself wide open for that one!? Kari giggled and nudged his side. ?So let?s see how good this gift is, shall we?? She pulled him to their bedroom, and shut the door.
The next morning was gorgeous. The sun was shining, and there was a cool breeze. Kari and Davis were all packed and heading for the door. Tai was taking them to the airport.
?Now, have we got everything?? Kari began to go through a mental checklist.
?Keys??
?Check.?
?Tickets??
?Check.?
?Husbands??
?I hope so! Wait?did you mean that to be plural?? Davis laughed.
?I think that?s illegal. Come on. Tai?s here.?
At the airport, Tai stood and watched Davis and Kari board their plane.
?Have fun you two!? he yelled.
?Bye!? Davis and Kari said together. The two made their way through the boarding ramp, and into the plane. Davis let Kari sit by the window since it was her trip. A few minutes later, the plane was in the air. Kari couldn?t really remember the last time she?d flown. Had it been since her last New York trip?with him? Surely it hadn?t been that long. But it had been. She wondered where time went. And why it had such drastic affects on people.
The in-flight movie began to play. It was some cheesy romance movie, and Davis had already fallen asleep.
?He should be tired after last night!? Kari thought. She blushed a bit. It still made her feel a little odd to even think about that. She guessed she?d get used to it. After all, she?d only been married for eight months. She was practically still a newly wed.
The movie was still playing, and Kari found herself drifting in and out of sleep. She?d dream while she was out. Finally, the dreams became clearer. She found herself standing in a familiar place. It was beautiful. She walked over to a nearby tree, and sat down. She expected to see somebody familiar. But who would it be? She didn?t know. Suddenly, she heard something rustling in the forest behind her. She stood up, looked, and saw a figure. She walked closer. The figure became clearer. It was him. She was happy, yet disturbed at the same time. He was saying something to her, but she couldn?t hear what. She listened harder.
?Kari,? his voice called. ?Kari, it?s time??
Now his voice didn?t sound right. It wasn?t the same.
?Kari, Kari, wake up.? Davis?s voice? That?s not right. Wait?Kari drifted back up through the layers of consciousness. Davis was smiling at her.
?We?re here!?

Chapter 3: Fallen Angels.

Davis and Kari exited their plane. They wanted to head

straight to the hotel to recover from jet lag. Davis hailed a cab,

and soon they arrived and were shown to their room. Inside, they

were greeted by an amazing site. The room had a huge canopy bed with

silky fabric draped all around it. In the rear corner was a hot tub.

On one side, was a huge bay window with an incredible view of the

NYC skyline. Davis walked over to the window, and noticed it had an

outside deck. They were about 15 stories up, and the view was

spectacular. He?d made a good choice. Davis opened the patio door,

and walked out. Kari soon joined him.

?Hey look!? She exclaimed, and pointed to two huge beams of

light near the bay.

?Oh, that must be where the twin towers were.? Davis said.

?It is. I remember visiting them when I was last here.? Kari

explained. ?It seems weird not to see them there.?

?I remember Mimi and Joe considering moving back after

that,? Davis said.

?Yeah, but you know Mimi. She can be stubborn, and she

really wanted to stay. I think Joe even helped out on the scene for

a while.? Kari replied.

?Wow,? was all Davis could manage to say.

?Well, I don?t know about you, but I am totally exhausted,?

Kari stretched.

?Yeah,? Davis said with a yawn. With that, the two climbed

into bed, and settled down for their rest. Davis was the first to

fall asleep as always. But sometime around 3 a.m., Kari woke him up.

She was tossing and turning violently, and saying something in her

sleep. Davis leaned over, and gently held her shoulder to wake her.

Kari grabbed his wrist and flung him to the floor.

?Oooof! Hey! What was that for?!? Davis demanded. Kari

looked around, still half asleep. She was in a cold sweat.

?I?Sorry Davis. I thought you were??

?Thought I was who?? Davis climbed back into bed. ?Were you

dreaming about TK again? I thought you were over that.?

?It?s hard to get over losing someone so close to you.? Kari

sighed.

?I know, but Kari, after what he did to you?How can you

still have feelings for TK? Don?t you remember??

Kari did remember. Her mind drifted back. It was almost two

years to the day. She?d just gotten her job with the newspaper.

Everything was going great. That was about the time when Davis had

asked her to marry him. She never thought for a moment when she was

younger that she?d say yes so fast. But Davis had grown up. He

reminded her of her brother in so many ways. Yet there was something

else. Something she loved. Of course she?d say yes.

That night, she returned home, and to her surprise, TK was

there. He had flowers and a gift. His eyes had that glow in them.

Kari?s heart sank.

?Kari, I came here tonight to ask you a very important

question.?

?TK, I??

?Kari, I know we?ve been friends for a long time. But I love

you. I want to be more than friends. I know you like Davis, but

you?ll get over him. It?s just a fling. I came here tonight to ask

you to marry me.? TK sank to one knee.

?TK, stand up. I have to tell you something. You?re not

going to like it.?

?What is it Kari??

?TK, Davis just asked me to marry him. I said yes.? Kari

would never forget the expression on TK?s face at that moment. It

was full of pain, but more of anger.

?I?m sorry TK. I thought you knew. I??

?Don?t bother,? TK said coldly. ?I understand you. I

understand what you have to do?And what I have to do.? What happened

next was very unusual. TK had always worn his crest of hope around

his neck since they got back from the digital world. At that moment,

it fell from his neck, and shattered. Kari gasped.

?I?ll be going now,? TK said, again in a cold, dark voice.

Kari was speechless. She didn?t sleep at all that night. She just

lay there. What should she do? How would she face TK again? Those

questions became answers the next evening. Davis was working late,

so Kari walked home. It was dark, and the wind was blowing fiercely.

She kept getting the feeling that someone was following her, and her

instincts having never failed her before, Kari walked a little

faster than normal. It proved to be not enough.

Suddenly, all Kari knew was that she was on the ground, with

some maniac on top of her. She kicked, and struggled to get free.

The dark man forced himself on her. Kari was now scared for her

life, but she still trusted her instincts. She waited for that right

moment. As soon as her attacker reached for his belt buckle, she let

all of a woman?s fury loose. She delivered a swift kick to the most

sensitive area on any man?s body, and was able to free herself. She

started to run, but something told her to turn around.

There he was. He lay there, curled up in pain. His toboggan

had fallen off. She could clearly see who it was under the street

lamp.

?TK?! Why?? Kari said in a painful tone. TK got up, and ran

for all he was worth, despite the terrible pain he was in. Kari

stood there, in total disbelief. She couldn?t understand what would

drive TK to attack her. She ran home and called Davis, telling him

he had to see her tonight.

After Kari explained the whole thing to him, Davis was as

shocked as Kari.

?What are you going to do?? Davis asked. There was a slight

tone of anger in his voice.

?Nothing.? Kari said bluntly.

?He can?t get away with this,? Davis tried.

?He didn?t. I don?t think he?ll ever have kids now.?

?Kari??

?No, Davis. I?m not going to do anything. I owe him that

much. Besides, I don?t think he?ll try it again. I know it was him.

I saw him. He didn?t want me to see him.?

?I hope you?re right?? Davis said, a little more than

worried.

The fact was, Kari would only see TK one more time. It was

about two weeks before her wedding. She passed him down in Shinjuku,

while shopping for wedding decorations. He was dressed in black. He

was pale, and his hair was all ratty. He didn?t wear his usual hat.

He had weird contacts in to make his eyes look all black. He didn?t

even see Kari. At least, if he did, she could see no signs of it.

That was the last time she was to see the one she?d shared so much

of her childhood with. This was to be the image she would carry to

this date.

?I?m fine now, Davis. Let?s go back to sleep,? Kari said,

coming back to reality, and rolled the covers back for him. The two

curled up together, and were soon asleep in the warmth of each

other?s touch.

The next day, Davis and Kari were to meet Mimi at a corner

café. They were sitting in a booth waiting on her to arrive,

chatting about the scenery, and how nice the weather was. Suddenly,

something caught Kari?s attention. She stared out the window, trying

to get a second glimpse. She got her chance, but it totally threw

her out of her mind.

?No?not here?not him. It couldn?t be,? She thought to

herself.

?What?s wrong Kari?? Davis asked. Kari continued to stare

out the window, waiting to see him again. As the row of people

parted again, he wasn?t there. Could she have imagined it? Surely

not?

?Kari??

?Huh? Oh! I?m fine, honest. I just thought I saw??

?Saw what??

?Willis. Yeah, I thought I saw Willis.?

?Really? We should drop in on him too!?

?Yeah, we should. Hey there?s Mimi!? Kari exclaimed.

Chapter 4: Catch me if You Can

Mimi, Davis, and Kari sat for every bit of two hours just talking and catching up. Mimi talked about Joe?s hospital and the work he?d done there, how he?d become the resident official, and most of all how he was never home. Mimi said the good thing about all this was that Joe could retire at age 45.

?Ugh, by then I?ll be all wrinkly. I choose not think about it.? Mimi remarked. The others laughed. Mimi went on to talk about her cooking show, and the work she was doing on Broadway. She played in Annie Get Your Gun, along side Reba McIntyre.

?She?s a pretty awesome lady.? Mimi said. ?You?ll have to meet her!? Mimi started digging through her purse. Finally she pulled out two tickets.

?Here. There?s a showing Friday night at 7:00. I hope you?ll come.?

?Of course we will.? Davis and Kari said at the same time. They could hardly wait to see Mimi at her best.

A while later, Mimi and Kari had gone to the restroom.

?Kari, there?s something I need to tell you.? Mimi had a serious look on her face.

?What is it Mimi??

?He?s here.?

Kari knew whom she meant, but acted like she didn?t. ?Who?s here??

?TK. I?ve seen him; even spoken with him. He?s knows you?re here.? Mimi said a little worried.

?How could he know that?? Kari asked.

?I don?t know, but he asked me if the two of you were here yet. He acted really weird. I can?t believe what he was wearing. Black is so not his color.?

?I?ve got Davis. What?s the worst that could happen?? Kari smiled.

?Did you really just say that?? Mimi laughed. Kari giggled, but a serious look crept back over Mimi?s face.

?I don?t like it??

?Look Mimi, I know he has issues, but I?m really not afraid of him. I can handle him.?

?I hope so. I just have a bad feeling, that?s all.? Mimi sighed.

?Hey, I am not going to let that boy ruin my birthday trip. I just won?t!?

?Girl power!? Mimi said, gesturing a peace sign. Kari giggled again.

The girls headed back to their table, only to find that Davis was gone.

?He?s probably in the restroom, or getting more food. You know Davis.? Kari said. Five minutes went by. No Davis. Ten minutes, twenty, still no sign of him.

?Where in the world did he go?? Kari was beginning to get worried. A waitress walked up.

?Excuse me, Kari Motymia??

?Yes??

?This just came for you.? The girl placed a note on the table. Kari picked it up and began to read. Her heart beat faster and faster the more she read.

?What is it Kari?? Mimi asked.

?Oh my gosh, Mimi, TK?s got Davis.? Kari managed.

?What?! How??

?I don?t know, but he wants me to meet him at the old abandoned steel mill tomorrow night at 8:00.?

?It?s a trap Kari, you know it is.?

?I know, but??

?I can?t believe this is sweet little TK. I just can?t.? Mimi almost cried.

?We?ve got to keep our cool. I have an idea.? Kari got on her cell phone. She dialed the Tokyo police department.

?Hello? Ken Ichijouji please. This is Kari Motymia and this is an emergency.?
