American Idol...is the with Simon Cowell? Well, you'll be interested by this. American idol originated in England, as Pop Idol. That came from Pop Stars, a top show that was very successful in the United Kingdom. It produced a band that has now split up. From Pop Idol we have produced two singers, who I hate, and from the latest installment, Popstars : The Rivals, we have been gifted with two truely awful bands! Guess this is like the one thing that you American's are actually behind us on!

Well, we do steal about half of our TV programs from the U.K. (The Weakest Link, Big Brother, Robot Wars, maybe even Whose Line). I'm not particularly surprised that American Idol was based off of an English show (which was probably based off of Star Search).

Heh. That's funny. American Idol came from Pop Idol, which came from Pop Stars (UK), which came from Pop Stars in Australia, which came Pop Stars in NZ.

Of course, the idiots who thought it up over here sold the rights to the Australia company, who ended up tripling what they got it for. Bleh.

By the way wasn`t there a pop stars here in America that made that band Edens Crush or something like that?
Yep. Their album went gold and they had about a week of airplay on MTV's Total Request Live. No one's heard from them since. I didn't like them, anyway.

Then Pop Stars (US) had a second season where they made a co-ed group (I prefer to think of it as an American S Club 7) called Scene 23. They had a song called "I Really don't Think So" that I don't think was half bad, but they went absolutely nowhere as far as I know. I'm not surprised, really.

Has anyone noticed how high Simon wears his trousers? The funniest part is when they have to sing without a backing tape, and they are really out of tune. It's great that part. Everything produced by these artifical 'idol' shows suck.
If you ask me, it's almost taking the mick out of our music industry. I mean, the fact that they were nobodies before, and can be turned famous in no time at all! Is that rightm, and is it fair on the people who hunt for a record deal, and battle their way to the top?

I've never seen American Idol, but I watched POP Idol and hated it, I hate the 2 bands that won Popstars: the rivals.
In my opinion, there isnt a drop of talent between them all, but as long as easily impressionable people keep tuning in to watch it, the longer they're going to keep making more talentless losers into popstars.

I thought someone here might know this...

What even happened to the girl that won the last American Idol? I thought she put out some single, and they made it sound like they were going to do all this stuff to make sure she got out into the public... And I've heard nothing about it since. Although I suppose it really hasn't been that long heh.

Just seems weird to start another one, when the last winner hasn't even really done anything yet.

No way I'm missing this, lol. One of my favorite parts, sad to say, is people getting rejected by Simon. Simon says...you are the weakest link. o_O;;;

But otherwise, the talent is pretty good, and I think the producers did a really good time on last American Idol. But then you win, and it's like, you can never go out in public again it seems. I hear that the top two winners from last time are making a movie. I mean, sure they're good at singing, but let's leave it at that, haha.

Guest G.T. Rock
I wanted to know why do most people go and audition for American Idol? A lot of them can`t really sing. Last season the singers from New York were horrible. Some of the students in my school said they would not watch American Idol again because they said the singers from New York makes the city look bad.(As if it`s not bad enough!)

I read this on another forum...
Howard Stern had the American Idol judges on his show this morning. He told them that he was gonna have some people audition for them and let them judge them to see if they could be on the show or get a record contract. So he has a girl come out and sing for them and of course Simon tells her that she sucks and Paula Abdul is like she's good and whatever, but they dismiss her. Then Howard has a guy come out and he tells the judges that he's never auditioned before for American Idol and he's gonna sing the Spiderman Movie theme song "Hero." So the guy sings for them and the judges are telling him why he sucks and he doesn't have the star quality or stage presence. Howard then says this is their worst nightmare and reveals that it's actually the guy who wrote and actually performs the song, from the band Saliva I think. The lead singer is of course insulted so he starts rattling off to them that he's up for like 3 Grammy nominations for the song, etc., etc. Meanwhile Simon and the other judges are trying to back track. It was pretty funny, I don't know how these experts could be so stupid that they didn't even recognize the guy. Apparently someone who creates one of the biggest hit songs of the year doesn't have enough talent to be a star, but that Sideshow Bob looking guy that almost won last year does.
Oh well. I can't stand the judges as it is. I hate how the camera cuts to them like dancing when they love someone. Who even cares about Paula Abdul anymore anyway? Bleh.

I could never get into reality shows...

American Idol... I've only seen that last episode of the first season, and found it okay. ^_^
No one talks about reality shows at school here. They really don't seem to care. lol

I'm hoping the winner this time will be a little more original. I think Kelly Clarkson's voice isn't too much different from alot of other artists...

We don't get to see American Idol here. How rude! I've seen clips of it on Entertainment Tonight, and some of them really suck! Sorry, but they do. I think I should go on there. lol.
They had Popstars (3 series of it) in Australia, and the first series produced Bardot, which have now brocken up after doing surprisingly well. The second series produced Scandalous, who had a couple of hits and then split up. The third series produced a solo singer, Scott Cain, who had one big hit, then dissapeared. He's now working with charities.
Some of the people that didn't win Popstars actually did better than those that did. Examples are Danielle Stearman and Selwyn.
I think it's all a load of bulls excretion.

Sorry. . posted this in a different American Idol thread before realizing that this thread was here. . basically just cutting and pasting what I wrote in the other thread, so when/if it is closed, no problem with me (did that sound stuck up? . . sorry.)

I have to say that I am not the biggest fan of reality tv. That being said, I say that this is sort of a branch off of reality tv. The one thing I like is that the people on the show don't really need to have alliances or anything. Everyone can pretty much be themselves, and as long as they have the talent, they will be fine. I really like the judges, and think Simon is absolutely brilliant -- If people can't handle his critisizm, why are they even bothering to try out? Are they that deaf to their own singing that they don't even know what they sound like?

I am somewhat curious what some of these people are thinking when they decide what to wear or what songs they sing. I can understand that many have slept out in the streets for days upon days, and many others are EXTREMELY nervous when they get up there. Three judges (very famous people at that) is one thing, but in front of millions of viewers across America and even further. . that is pretty scary. But, what do they think they are going to be doing if they make it big? It's not like MTV Real World where they can just walk into a closet with a camera and sing to everyone without the pressure. . They will be STARS if they make it. Big celebrities really don't get the pleasure of privacy, so if you can't handle that, you really shouldn't have wasted time.

On a side note -- I really thought the twins yelling at the judges was pretty funny. Their spirits were pretty high all throughout the fighting, but 1) It's American IDOL, not idols. If we wanted twins, they would have changed the name. . 2) You don't try to argue with the judges who are running the competition. Their say IS final for American Idol. If you don't like it, don't waste their time. . and 3) Though they claimed that they felt like they came out on top in the whole 'fight' they had, I have to say they only made themselves look like that much bigger idiots.

That's all I have to say. They show is pretty good to watch sometimes, but after the first several episodes, it just gets to be too serious, I mean, with no more tone deaf singers, is there anything else to laugh at?. .

I think she's working on a movie with one of the other contestants from the last season of American Idol, and she has a single out on the radio. supposedly it went number 1 its first week somewhere, but I myself have heard it maybe once. the song isn't very memorable anyway, even if she can sing well.

I loved the first episode. Did you see that guy with the cut-up pants?
oh dear Lord, you mean the guy that had slits all the way up to his butt? man, that was nasty. and he sounded like a freakin' girl, when he wasn't singing. when he was singing, he didn't hit a single note that wasn't off-key. and he didn't know it either! but he does have a point about Simon and that other what's-his-face dude crackin' on people like that. they really don't need to say they suck as bluntly as they do. of course the irony is, who would watch the show if they didn't? most of the people watch American Idol just to hear Simon knock on people anyway.
