stratigyless
Why does Yu-gi grow like 3 inches in the show when the spirit of the millenium puzzle takes over. I think he says "YU-GI-GROWWW!" no offense to anyone who thinks that was a bad thing to say(sorry for the bad joke)
Posthumous
His Yami takes over that's why.If you saw the episode you would know.
Hyper
Its not necessarily Yugi growing. Yami just is taller Yugi, so when he takes over, some things change. Think about it like this: When Yugi is as old as Yami, (When he was sealed inside the puzzle) if he transforms, nothing in size will change. Deadeye
And how come it took till the middle of the 1st season for the gang to realize what was going on? I mean when yami takes over he grows 3 inchs (said above) and his voice is about 30x deeper...:D

egyptgirl
Bad ears and eyes? Actually I agree totally. When I watch the re-runs of Duelist Kingdom I want to yell "WAKE UP PEOPLES!!!! NOTICE THE HEIGHT AND VOICE!!! THAT AIN'T YUGI!!!!!"
DeathBug
Well, I think the explanation the show would give is that "Sailor Moon" gave to explain why no one recognizes the Sailor Scouts even though they wear no masks of any kind: the magic makes people ignore those blaringly obvious clues. (Yeah, it's a cop-out answer, but I didn't write it.) If you look at some of the earlier episodes, though, Yugi is usually never directly next to his friends during most of his transformations; he's on the dueling platform. that would theoretically make it slightly difficult to notice a small change in hieght. Sure, he acts differently, but I know several people who act more confident when doing something in their fields of expertiese. That I can buy. (But still, he gets like six inches taller, and his voice gets deeper! Can I even start to explain that? Nope!)
Bandit Joeykuba
I read an article in some magazine that most people don't realize changes, no matter how obvious they are. Joey wouldn't notice 'cause he's blond (no offense), Tristen... is only on screen for five seconds, so we wouldn't know if he knew, and tea... Tea's got prblems, so scratch her out... As for anyone else... maybe they need glasses (Or in Weevil's case, stronger ones)? And hearing aids too?
Amorphous
ah but you see whenever Yugi transforms into yami yugi, he is always somewhere far away plus the dueling arena's are actually pretty high up of the ground even if it dosen't look like it. You have to realize that its an anime, it dosen't have to make sense, at leasts thats what I keep saying.
egyptgirl
In a few episodes Yami Yugi is down with everyone else and they still don't notice.
DeathBug
This is probably one of those things in a series that is best left alone. (Gee, Lois, you ever notice how Clark looks *exactly like* Superman, just with glasses? Makes you wonder...) I still vouch for the "magic effect" theory; it may be a lame cop-out, but it's a lame cop-out that covers every single instance, and most of the good theories can't do that. In the manga, everybody could tell the difference between Yugi and Yami, right from the start.
Tea, hearing Yami's voice but not seeing him, falls in love with him, imagining him as a tall, dark and handsome mystery man who rescued her when she was in peril. In reality, he was right next to her, but he'd turned back into Yugi and was whining about being really hungry. Funny stuff.
BlueEyesToon
Actuall, if you care to pay attention, Seto notices in the very first episode. When Yugi transforms into Yami, he says, and I quote, "What the..."
Alexander
Heck, in the manga, there ISN'T any difference in Yugi and Yami's height, and they still notice!
Sheikahmon
I sure as (says evil word and gets shot by Solo) noticed the change first time around! But maybe that's because I saw the theme song and kind-of knew what to expect. Yugi's friends don't exactly have that privelige. Has anyone never noticed that Bakura never showed his pretty face during the theme song from the first season? Even Bakura Evil Mode doesn't show, and even without the E.M. side showing up, Bakura seemed to get a lot more screen time than Kaiba did. I haven't seen the second season theme yet, but my siblings have (I was on a sleepover), and they tell me both sides of that pretty little albino showed. Okay, I'm getting on a Bakura kick... Anyone think we should make a Bakura-themed thread? Where people express their opinions about Bakura? Or is it such a bad idea that Solo's about to shoot me again? Okay, Yami-Sheikahmon just slapped me across the face, telling me that Bakura's all hers. What I really wanted to talk about here is Yugi's hair. (See, Solo? This is what I bugged you about, no more Bakura-babble. I promise *crosses fingers over her mouse*) No doubt a lot of people have their theories about why Yugi's hair is that way. I read a magazine article that had an interview with the author of the original manga, and it said there that he had based Yugi's hair on the shape of the human hand. Weird, huh? Solo Tremaine
*Puts down six-shooter* That's okay, Shiek. ;) But... I'm not sure a Bakura thread would get much varied discussion, seeing as everyone thinks he's great anyway. It'd be like a favourites topic... all about Bakura o_O; What I wonder about in the Yugi-Yami transition, Duellist Kingdom anyway, is how Yugi's shoes change. When he's Yugi, he has shoes and trousers. When he's Yami, no shoes, it becomes like the bottom half of a (rather stylish) baby-gro.
zyphir
my brother and me decided that yami means demon form (because the card named yami boosts spellcasters and fiends)
DeathBug
"Yami" means "dark", or "darkness", in Japanese. It can also be used to mean "evil". In the case of the field card, it means "Darkness", the darkness giving power to the fiends and spellcasters. In the case of Yugi, he becomes "Yami" because in the original manga, Yami was kind of evil. sure, it was to people who deserved it, but the guy could be downright creepy. They cleaned him up for the anime, but the original was more fun...

Sheikahmon
Okay. Sorry about that, Solo. I was a little out of control that day. Anyway (that's a word I use a lot)... The other day, in Language Arts, a girl at my table asked a question about ?Yami-Yugi? because she thought it was (I quote), ?a funny name.? This started my best friend into a LONG explanation of the TV show and every one of its aspects. The two of us have a major flaw which is that each of us is capable of taking one or two little episodes of any show and dragging it into an hour-long discussion of the topic. Anyway, my friend was talking 5000 mph, and I kind of just started drawing. When I was done, I had an extremely cute picture of Yugi (normal). I tried to duplicate it on Paint, because I can?t use a scanner, but Paint messed up. So I can?t show you my Yugi pic. sigh...
Solo Tremaine
That's okay, Shiek ;) Anyway, I think this boils down to the plot point that's painfully obvious to the audience but almost completely forgotten about or not noticed by principle characters until it suits the plot to do so. You're right Nexus, T'ea did notice a long time ago, but she never seemed to notice or say anything about it until ages and ages later. Which is odd. You'd think a sudden transformation like that would be a bit of a discussion point. Unless she wanted to keep it secret. But Yami was popping up all over the place in DK and she never said a thing...
