The Addiction That is Phantasy Star Online...

Well, it's certainly addicitng to play. I haven't tried the online function yet, mainly because I don't have the network adaptor or money/time to subscribe and get my money's worth. Usually, me and a bunch of my friends come together and import our characters, then try to get as far as we can before getting wiped out.

I'm currently in the caves and I've stopped there to level up a lot. That place is rough...

A fun game though. Tell us your experiences...are you online or off?

Yes, yes it is a fun game! And so many experiences I got online for Christmas, and experianced one of the three bad instances of the game, File Corruption! My lv. 42 was completely wiped due to the fact it was on a third party memory card, so I advise you if you are ever considering online play put it on a Memory Card59. So I started over and although I was a wee-bit dissapointed, I continued to play the game I loved. And I'm glad I did so, I worked my way back up and higher, until that night I reached level 70, I was once again corrupted :bawl: Now I know what you may be thinking I'll never play online thats terrible, but you'ld be making a huge mistake! I figured out the problem, my connection data was on a seperate third party memory card! So all is fixed now and I'm going again, this game is by far the best console game I have ever read about, played, or dreamed of...well not dreamed of :D But the madness I love it I now have around a lv 50 HUmar, lv 36 RAmar, and a lv 20 FOmar. You must get this game, you must play it online, you must let it consume everypart of your being. Well, I gtg off to my Shrink :drunk: :D

I was addicted to Version 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast, and I'm waiting for the UK release of the GameCube version.
Offline doesnt even begin to compare to how fun this game is online, Though offline still has the advantage of no cheaters, which is the most annoying thing about the online mode, I don't know about the GameCube version because I havent played it yet, but on the Dreamcast, The Online mode was plagued by cheaters that thought it was fun to kill other peoples characters and steal there rare weapons.

It was a real shame because the Dreamcast version was so much fun until you could'nt even log onto one of the online lobbies without a cheater freezing your game and making you lose your items. :( Lets just hope this doesnt happen to the Gamecube version.

Eh...if it's anything like the Phantasy Star Online games for the Dreamcast, then this game is way overrated. It was tedious, and boring having to fight so many endless monsters to be able to compete with others just to be able to play it with any fun factor whatsoever.
I must admit it can get tedious at times, but as Sniglefager pointed out "it is fun being able to kill with your friends over the internet, or better yet, people you don't even know over the internet.".
They're lots of rpgs where you just kill over and over with the same attacks I.E "Diablo, Legend of Mir ect".
On PSO the weapons and armour ect you can use when you get to higher levels make it worth the time in my opinion and many others.

For 4 months now, I've had the JPN version of the game staring at me from my desk. The evil disc laughs at me, because I was fooled by the Freeloader. But never fear, I will get online, and at only $15/3 months. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

Thats good. More people to have online fun with! Tedious, Ha!, have you ever played a GTA game, now thats tedious. All games are a little tedious, but this game took tedious and made it... tedious...LOL! Really with all the items, adventures, and online personalities coming right through your outdated TV screen, this game is worth it for even the casual RPG player (they won't be after playing this) GET IT!

GET THE ADAPTER AT ALL COSTS!
It is well worth whatever it takes.
This is a game, that hasn't even been taken out of my GameCube to put another in. My Animal Crossing town probably has 600 weeds in it. My RA is now up to 63 even though I hardly ever get to play, stupid baseball practice. Oh yeah and if you want, you can be in my (and level 94 friends) guild! Just PM me!

I hear about this game alot too. I never played the Dreamcast versions pretty much cause I couldn't pay the fees and tried to get the DSL adapter for it first in which I failed to do so. I saw the GCN version in stores everywhere but the Broadband adapter seems non existant. Even so the Xbox version catches my eye because you can have voice chat with your fellow gamers. Lag is non-existant and there's a slight graphical improvement. The only negative point is that there's the XBL fee you have to pay off aside from the $8.95 PSO fee. Still though, from what I'm hearing the voice chat is MUCH better than using the controller to chat.

Level 84,Hucast
Awesome Weps:
Double Cannon
Partisan of Lightning+60
Orotiagito
Del Set
and much more
Awesome Armor:
Luminous Field(4 slots)
those are just some some of the things that were lost from the cursed FSOD. A few weeks ago I was caught during a big "worm" virus that was spreading through the PSO world, I did get on and managed to play a bit. I was about to get off, but I thought I should go and do some trades. So I went to a room that said "BIG TRADES", it had some higher level characters(which I have always seemed to gotten freezed on when I enter into their room) so I got in, and the game saved and BAM frozen. My PSO file corrupted, and that was it, my PSO days were over. Anyone else experience such a problem, I am sure there are?

 • 3 weeks later...
Does anyone know how bad it would be playing PSO with a 28.8k modem connection? I was thinking about getting it but that is a big problem for me. Where I live my phone-line is really low quality(I can't even play pool at pogo because how choppy it is), so I hesitate about anything that is online. I dout I will be able to enjoy it enough to justify buying it.

I think I'd have to agree with kizu. I really like the look of PSO, but I'm doubtful about playing it online. It's not so much the fact that it won't work (which it should, probably very well), but more the fact that I spend far too much time online anyway (guess where that is ), and the scare stories are, well, scary. I know no hacking problems have occurred on the GC version as yet (or last I heard there hadn't), but it'd still be annoying to play for several months and then have all your achievements nicked by someone.

I think the game looks, and probably plays very well, but I don't think it'd be for me. It sounds great being a part of this fantasy world and playing in it, but, amongst other things I think it'd get too expensive. You'd need the special modem for the GC and an ISP, plus monthly charges. It seems too much for me -__- And without the keyboard I probably wouldn't get it anyway- I like being able to type.

Yeah with out the keyboard its hard to communicate with others so your basically stuck trying to get something off as fast as you can, before the other person leaves or sometin else. Well lately, from what I hear, the problems FSOD's is that there basically gone, the freezing while ya save is also gone, but I have still lost interest in going back to the early levels, since I think before I lost my character, that I had done all that I really could, got great weps and shields, did some exploring, and got to a high level.

yeah, are they going to do away with bleeping out cuss words in text, because they cant stop it from the mic, and see i dont get 2 people are talking to each other and the other two people are talking to each other, how they gonna know who's who, AND im pretty sure mic chatting isnt available in lobbies cuz that would sound like a school cafeteria and nobody wants that......

I read the latest XBox mag, and it says that the Lobby will support voice chat, but you will only hear those close to you.

Anyway, I finally got the Freeloader, so I've been playing/loving this game sincelast night. I've already clocked 9 hours on my character, and I'm buying the modem pretty soon (already got the money, and the JPN version only costs $3.50/month).
I said that I would have the last laugh! :D
