Just figured I'd deliver the goods and inform everyone that currently in Japan there is an anime series in the works based on that Blue Hedgehog again. The anime is called Sonic X it's just about to get ready to air the pilot episode in Japan during the spring, hopefully unlike previous versions this series will be completed. It's very loosely based off the anime movie from quite awhile back and most characters from Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 will be featured in the show one thing that impressed me was Shadow is in it. Also a new character will be featured in this anime and boy does he/she look evil have a look for yourself

According to the filename it says nazo but I'm not sure if that really is that creatures name.

To find out a little bit more about it visit this site Click Here they don't have much since details are scarce. Hopefully you guys can clamour about this instead of the usual mainstream stuff you guys forever rant about here.

And I'll leave you with two more pics to look at:

Hm, this is interesting. The original Sonic anime (which had members of Sonic Team involved) was pretty poor. In fact, none of the Sonic animes have really ever been any good.

I hope that this anime can bring something different to the table. The other animes have always had something unique about them...or at least, some sort of potential. It'd be nice to see the series take off in a big way.

I must say though, I don't think people here are always discussing so-called "mainstream" anime. Some of the threads lately in particular have been focused on far less mainstream subjects. I think most people are open to new things, especially when it comes to anime.

Ultimately though, we all have our tastes. I don't think that discussing "mainstream" anime (and even that is a somewhat subjective term) is a bad thing at all. As long as you're enjoying it, that's the main thing.

EDIT: Oh and...I nearly forgot. I always felt that the American Sonic cartoons were a lot better than the Japanese ones. As most of you know, there were two major kinds.

There was the more "serious" version...with that Princess (I forget her name...ugh). And there was the more comedic version (which I actually quite enjoyed; some of it was really quirky and offbeat).

I would love to see a really fleshed-out anime series coming from Japan...*sighs* That'd be great. I'm such a big Sonic fan. ^_^

I personally was only a sonic fan because of the game.

The cartoons I saw in America weren't all that great to me.

I do hope that this cartoon makes it to me through some sort of free means, and I hope they do a good job of making a story that is really good.

I dont mean to bash, but from the group pic above, this looks like it may be another kids anime thats meant to go straight onto (what channel is it) cable airing in a line up with the power rangers.

Dont get me wrong, cartoons that do it for some might not be good to others, so Im not gonna insult, but this looks alot like the same sort of cartoon as digimon or beyblade as well as about a dozen other animes that air on "kids channels."

So like I said, hopefully this show will have a story worth watching rather than animation that is great.

Well let's face it, you could easily say the same about DB/DBZ. Probably even moreso.

Really, I don't imagine that Sonic would have a story that lends itself to an adult audience. The same could be said of Mario. But, like Mario, it's a subject matter that older fans can enjoy and appreciate. I tend to find that these shows are made for both kids and adults. The "comedic" Sonic series had some quite clever lines in it on occasion; lines that the average 12 year old simply wouldn't pick up. So there's potentially some value there for everyone.

I've seen the comedic one, the serious one, and the anime movie. I believe the serious one was based off of comic books from the same people who did Archie (eeks). That one was my favorite, followed by the funny one.
The anime movie had characters I had never seen before (I have never played any of the games), but it was interesting to watch, none the less. A little clichéd, but still fun.

This is awesome!

I've been a big fan of Sonic for YEARS, all the way back to 1992. I'm sure this'll be a good treat for all of us.
I can't wait to watch it!
And I knew just by the title before I even saw the pictures that it was most likely going to be about Sonic the Hedgehog.
Hopefully, this will turn out to be a good Anime.
I can remember when I was about 10 that Toon Disney moved Sonic The Hedgehog: The Animated Series got moved to like 2:00 in the morning....that show didn't do too well. Too childish.
I hope this Anime turns out to have some action, and mostly have it aimed for older audiences. like over the age of 13 like most Animes.

EDIT: I first got into Sonic by the video games in '92 with Sega Genesis. Still have it...*pats antique Sega platform*
I did love the more comedic Sonic also, as James stated earlier. It would be neat to see a serious Sonic (but those pics just keep reminding me of a Super Saiyan!!), but Sonic has always been that little funny guy with super speed. It would be wierd watching Sonic kissing some girl and saving the universe from the most evil guy out there....like him trying to fight Cell or Frieza...that just would not be like him.
A little serious and a lot of comedy. That's the best.

Ginny, you're correct about the comics. I used to buy them religeously. lol

They were great. And really, very unlike the Sonic games. In fact, I'd say that they were Sonic in name only. Their stories ended up being totally different. But the art was always very impressive and the stories were certainly quite acceptable.

The anime movie (which I still have...good as new) was okay. The problem is that it didn't really have much of a story at all, unlike the American interpretations. But having said that, the art was quite good and the voices/characters were generally more true to the games, because they were created by Sonic Team.

I have no idea where this new anime will fall. But I really hope that it delivers something more. It certainly looks interesting so far.
