The sun rose to an era of strange peace in the realm of Beleriand. It's warm rays carried acros the sky as beacons of hope to the now victorious people. Angaband lay in ruin, it's iron towers and steel-toothed walls burned with the same sulfurous ash they had arisen. Towers of the Edain and Eldar now stood watch over the conquered enemy, laying constant seige to the hated Morgoth, staying any possibility of attack.
The year was 260 of the Age of the Sun over Beleriand. The great elven kingdoms of Hithlum, Doriath, Gondolin, Menengroth, and Narthrogrond stood prosperous in wake of this new peice. The men of Dol Lomin and Eckenbrand began to create marvels of their own, cities of glittering stone, and their race still in it's infancy. Belegrost and Nogrond held the marble halls of the dwarves, great labrynths of magnificent beauty from centuries of labor. It was in this era that the people of the land could feast and enjoy the prosperity of the Age.

It is in the City known as Gondolin where your adventure shall begin:

The rising sun's saffron rays peirced the tips of the encircling mountains before lighting the plain below them. The breeze carrying spices and laughter wafts past your nose as you turn to face the glorious display of light. The city glitters, it's white towers reflecting the sun in a prism of colors. Children laugh and dance through the marble streets and music is softly playing from shop to residence. A sindarian child skips up to you, cheerfully handing you a ripened fruit. His soft voice beckoning in joy "Aa? menealle nauva calen ar? malta." (may your ways be golden with fortune). You look at the ripened fruit to see the light reflect upon it. A streak of silver, then white, then crimson. Your eyes widen as you look towards the east. The sun's rays pass through a cloud; crimson light eminating across the mountain peaks. The small child stares up at you his azure eyes glittering, "Lle tyava quel? (are you feeling ok?)" he inquires. The crimson sun means one thing: blood has been spilled upon this day.

A chill carries through the breeze sending shivers up your back. Another smell.... blood. "Gothrim amin narathil." (my foes have returned) Something has happened in Angaband. You anticipate Turgon will be calling an audience soon. A silent prayer quivers from your lips to the Valar. "Please do not let it be so."

(OOC: somehow each of you has arrived here. Why, is up to you.)

The herald of Ecthelion puts a great horn to his mouth. With a rumbling blow he announces to an onlooking crowd, "Grave happenings have occured in this dawn, those who can fight or help in defence against Morgoth, the enemy, would be greatly appreciated by King Turgon. Those who do not hold residency in Gondolin will be paid mercenary fee's if they choose to assist us. I shall return with further details and a calling of the council as the great eagle Thorondor gives his cry."

The mention of "Morgoth" sent a gasp and shudder through the crowd. Bad news indeed.

Duranain dismounted his horse and ran towards the audience hall. He had arrived as a representitive of of the Numenor and was eager to prove his worth to the elves, who seemed to look down on on anyone who wasn' an elf. He ran into the Hall. "I wish to offer my services to Gondolin!" He cried.

Idril watched as the human entered the audience hall in a rush. She smiled faintly.

Idril: Its seems as though we have our first warrior, Father.

Turgon: Yes indeed we do...what is your name brave human?

Duranain: My name, Lord is Duranain.

Turgon: Welcome Duranain to Gondolin my domain. Now all we have to do is wait for the other brave warriors to arrive. It seems that you are the first one.

Idril: Oh but you are wrong Father. He is the second. I am the first.

Turgon: Idril! No, no I forbid you to go!

Idril: I will go and you cannot stop me.

The golden haired elf that sat on the head of the council table grinned,

"Your arrivals are greatly appreciated friends to the crown. We hope that you are the first of many to join us."

Duranian leaned against the marble walls, the silver hilt of his longsword ringing softly as it tapped the stone.

Glorfindel stepped out to the flank of King Turgon,
"It will be soon before Thorondor rides above my leige, with your permission I shall begin my manifest at that time."

King Turgon nodded to his trusted captain, somehow he felt confort in the prowess of the new faces with those he trusted.

Through the streets of Gondolin, a single female rode. Her horse was strong and clean limbed, his hair was of silver, and his eyes were dark. His mistress was tall and fair, but had a faint scent of flowers and light around her that many did not understand. Lethe smiled and looked around, sensing the emotions of the masses, and the fear that ran deep within them.

She dismounted when the guard greeted her and she shook out her dress and smoothed the sleeves. Her staff was pressed into her hands and the guard led her by hand through the doors.

Lethe centered her fear and hopes and walked down the hall, towards the table. Her steps were measured and steady, not betraying her inner turmoil.
She heard their voices stop and all eyes turned towards her. It was then, that hers opened for the first time. They were silver, shot through with lavender, and it was obvious that she was blind. She held up her right hand in greeting.

Lethe: Salut to you...King Turgon. I am sent of Beheurn, of the House of the Lost Play.

Elsyan walked through the streets of Gondolin, the kindom of Turgon. The sun on her pale cheek was crimson, meaning that a great deal of blood was spilt as the belief goes. She entered the halls and her emerald eyes swept over the room. Many people had already gathered, and they were whispering urgently. Elsyan's ears caught "Melkor" and "Morgoth" in many of their sentences and conversations. This wasn't good....not good at all....

She entered and saw Turgon sitting at the table. She approached him then bowed in respect.

Elsyan: "Suilad, Targon Aran. Elsyan estan-en, a an maeth Morgoth ah lînn im iest." ("Greetings, King Targon. My name is Elysan, and I wish to help you fight Morgoth.")

Laitina turned to face where she had heard the familiar tounge. She had been sitting silently, pondering of what the people were discussing. Knowing but a little of the modern tounge, she etched out what she could of the conversation. There was another elf who had arrived.

"Suilannad, im Laitina o Lorien." Laitina spoke softly.
Greetings, I am Laitina from Lorien

"Im Elsyan." She replied. "Telin s?an thaed Targon Aran."
I am Elsyan, I come to help King Targon

Laitina smiled, and nodded.

"Telin de mae"
I as well

Thankful that another spoke Sindarian, Laitina eased and continued to try to listen to the others' words. Listening wasn't a problem. Unusually, she couldn't speak it. Most words she understood clearly, yet speaking seemed impossible after speaking Sindarian for a millenium.

Lethe waited patiently with the other three women. All of them had elf blood, and a certain skill with magic... But either theirs was slightly under developed, or Lethe's senses were betraying her.

She shifted her grip on her staff and blinked slowly. The emotions in this room were so negative, she could feel the hairs on her neck starting to prickle. The voices were slowly stopping, and she took the oppertunity to raise her voice in in a clear soft melody.

Lethe: Naina, Valariande,
An i calwo ná firin,
Ar elenu vinye
Úsiluvar eldain.
Nán i Raice na cuine.

Everything was still, the words she had spoken were painful and true.....and her message was taken closely...even if it was only a fragment of the real song.

Translation: Weep, Beleriand,
For the hero is dead,
And two new stars
Will not shine for Eldar.

Corin and Lorin hadn't planned on ending up in Gondolin... In fact they hadn't planned on ending up anywhere in particular. But they were two of the audience who were to hear the summons on behalf of King Turgon.

Corin: Morgoth? These people have decided on a bold quest indeed... *strokes his beard thoughtfully*

Lorin: Yes... It is true... Morgoth will not be felled with ease...

Corin: Are we up to such a challenge, brother?

Lorin: *joyfully* Aye! Certainly we are!

Corin: Perhaps there will also be gold and great riches after such a quest!

Lorin: *his eyes lighting up* Another truth!

With this thought happily in mind, the two dwarves made their way towards the audience hall. Several faces awaited them there, and Corin was a little annoyed at the fact that they seemed to be late-comers to this quest. Indeed, everyone seemed to be waiting for something.
Realising all eyes had turned towards the two, Corin cleared his throat and spoke.

Corin: If you still have need of warriors to fight Morgoth, we dwarves are ready to assist. *pauses significantly* We know as well as anyone this threat is a grave and serious one...

OOC: Just a note, Sarsy (Lorin) and I know each other IRL, so don't be too surprised if we seem to be dominating each other's characters... I dicussed this post with her before making it. ^_^

OOC: was it me, or were the boards down a bit last night??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A shrill cry rose overhead. Thorondor the eagle swooped low over the village giving its mid-morning call.
Glorfindel looked to king Turgon, who nodded, then stepped forward onto a slight prepace to face the audience. "Free peoples of middle earth, Edain, Elves, and friends." the golden Captain began, "The previous night a grave occurance has arisen, compromising the integrity of our peaceful existence here and to other nations."
Another elven maiden stood behind Glorfindel translating into sindarian.
Glorfindel looked around the room at grim faces, "The seige of Angaband has been compromised this day. The dark one's most evil of beasts has arisen from the defiled pits. This great beast is known only as Glaurung. We are not aware of the potential threat the beast posseses. What we do know is that it has destroyed Hithlum's (ooc: an elven kingdom ruled by high king of the nolodor)northern seige, with it's breath of inferno alone."
Gasps arose, more mumbling. Glorfindel's eyes shone with defiance as he picked up his voice, " Obviously this is a creature of great power and devastation so no risks will be taken towards any of our destruction. I will send a group of ten, no more no less, in order to scout out the Fens of Serech and possibly witness this monster. If you find any of the Nolodor survivors.." he paused, swallowing," do not attempt to rescue them."
Cries of dismay and disagreement arose from the audience hall. Glorfindel spoke over them, "We CANNOT risk any more lives for those who have already fallen the task is of too great importance. The needs of many out weigh the needs of the few." At this the elf sat down with a disgouraged look crossing his face. Glorfindel wanted to save the survivors, if there were any, as much as any of the elves attending.
A herald spoke up, "Those who have heard what Glorfindel has said and agree to join, please step forward."
Idril started to step forward at the herold's command but a hand grabbed her slender wrist. Idril looked back to see Turgon, her father, who's face was filled with pain.
Turgon: Please my daugter, please reconsider this course of action.
Idril: I am sorry Father but I want to help defeat the evil in the world. I will be safe and I will come back to you.
Turgon sighed and let go of her arm. Idril smiled at him and walked to the other side of the room with the other warrriors to go.
Turgon: Be safe and come back to me.He whispered so no one in the audience hall could hear.
Lethe smiled broadly...this was the chance she had been waiting for. She stepped to follow the other woman.......unafraid, smiling.
Fear was not an option. It would not deter her from her true goal.
Lethe: Where the darkness goes, there I must follow.
"Lle merna aut farien?(will that be all)?" Said King Turgon sitting up slightly, "The bravery shown by these maidens is great indeed but have you no confidence?"
Corin and Lorin stumbled in, carrying pints of Ale. Their soft burps condensed on their swaying beards.
"You, good dwarves. You would join us wouldn't you?" Inquired the chiseled features of the king.
They looked at eachother, tucking in their beards with the usual dwarven bodily noises.
"Well, i suppose if we 'an help ye out.." Corin started.
Lorin finishes, "...if there's somethin' in it for me *a sharp elbow from Corin*..er.. us,"
"Rych thaed." Laitina spoke, rising from her seat. "I will do all I can."
I will help.
Laitina walked over to the group, placing her pale hands on the shoulder of one of the dwarves. Her glance shifted to the people around her. It was her first time seeing yet so many new faces at one moment. She had grown familiar with those of Lorien, and knew each of their names easily. Although, it would take a while until she remembered theirs.
"I swear on my dword that I will not rest until Morgoroth has been defeated. You shall have me as a compainion."
King Turgon?s obsidian and gold armor shimmered as a beam of light shot through a window, highlighting the magnificently crafted work. His eyes narrowed with slight intensity, brow wrinkling on a normally smooth Elven face.
Glorfindel looked over at the king apprehensively, ?would they be enough?? the captain could only ponder the potential of these strange individuals. His green eyes sparkled with hope, perhaps within these strangers would their tenuous task be accomplished. With a nod of comformation from the King, Glorfindel pulled out a map.
"I will be leading the group," Glorfindel said softly looking at the various beings collected around him . Elysan, Idril, Darillian, and Latiana representing the elves. Corin and Lorin of the dwarven kingdom Belegost. Lethe standing for the mysterious and powerful maiar. Finally, the able Duranian stood with a cocky grin, his tempered steel and mortal inquisitiveness standing for the Humans.
"We will be taking the southern pass : the hidden way. We must travel quickly and quietly through that area. Upon exiting the encircling mountains we must travel west until we reach the great river Sirion. Thirty leagues from the island Tol Sirion. The ferry-warden there is named Asenorf of House Forwilden. Do not speak to him, do not touch him. He possesses a fiery temperament to the Elves and does this only as a favor. We will cross the ferry and make for the western mountains of Dor Lomin. A new trade?s worth of armor and weapons newly fashioned at Nogrond has arrived. We will try to purchase a few mithril chain for those who are most proficient with melee combat. His majesty?s royal coffer shall pay for all expenses. We shall meet at sunset upon the steps of the city. I assume you all have mounts?" The rest of the group nodded silently."Very well, dismissed then." Glorfindel finished.
Murmurs filled the audience hall as the group walked out, younger elves staring with awe at the brave volunteers. King Turgon announced the dismissal of the whole audience hall until the men returned with news. Slowly your characters walked out into the main plaza outside the white tower of Echthelion. A group of commoners gathered in their silken garments of leisure. Applause broke out across the group and singing erupted. Lorin strained his face, trying to remember his Sindarian.
The hybrid Maiar smiled and hummed along to the lilting tune. It was both to Varda the Kindlier, and truly...all of the Valar. She closed her useless eyes and leaned on her staff. Laitina tapped her shoulder. Her eyes opened again.
Laitina: Do you know the words?
Lethe: ...They are singing Varda's praises, hope for the future...and love of the Valar.
Laitina: Do you ever want to go back to Valinor?
Lethe: Some day. I have many things to do here...in this world of Woven trees and Tempered stone.
She smiled softly and closed her eyes again. There was no need to dry out her eyes with watching for what couldn't be seen. She smiled and swayed slightly.
Laitina's eyes lingered to the sky, where the sun had already begun to set. There was bleaches of red light speckled with stone-grey clouds shadowing over the eagles of Hidden City. They stood along the white walls of the city, looking over the rock-sewn course they had overcome to attend this meeting.
"Boe a bain, Lethe." Laitina said, eyes seeming to flicker as the sunbeams caught her face.
(It is beautiful, Lethe.)
Lethe outstretched her neck, enjoying the warmth of the sun. She leaned against her staff, chin rising towards the hills, smelling the air.
"Yes..." She replied. "The wind is kind this day."
Laitina tilt her head to the side in confusion, not understanding what she had ment. She placed her hands atop the wall, sighing happily. Then, she began to wonder. How could a city as beautiful as this, be hidden amongst such barren mountains?
Lethe: Do yoy want to know why it's so secluded?
Laitina: ...are you a mind reader?
Lethe: I'm a Maiar halfbreed....
Laitina: Alright, why is it so secluded?
Lethe: ...partially for defense. A building in plain view is begging to be overthrown or torn down. Even one as beautiful as this....
Laitina: ....and for offense?
Lethe: Perhaps. I do not know the minds of the creators.
She placed one hand on the smooth cold marble....testing it's strength from deep inside.
Leaning heavily on his axe, Corin sighed. This place was a beautiful place and no mistake. If only it wasn't so over-populated with elven peoples speaking a language he didn't understand... Absently he remembered the mention of an attempt to purchase mithril.
Corin: *aloud to anyone who would listen* I believe a visit to Belegost is in order. Our mines provide the finest mithril, and I'm quite sure the price would not be unreasonable.
Corin paused, wondering if anyone had paid him any heed, all the elves absorbed in their sunset, which was adimttedly the finest Corin had ever seen. But Morgoth wasn't going to be defeated by gazing at the sky. Absently he tugged at his beard and regarded his compainions carefully.
Idril watched everybody enjoy the glory and culture of her fair city. She smiled when she heard the song of the Valar for it was her favorite song.
Idril's face darkened when she started to think of the task ahead of them. She knew it would be a difficult task indeed to go in the realms of Morgoth but she felt as though she had to help.
Idril had lived among the walls of Goldolin to long and though the city was indeed beautiful she couldn't stand not knowing what was happening in the outside world.
Idril: Well I guess I'm going to find out She said to herself quietly.
