Her hands caressed deeply into the solid marble, concentrating. There seemed to be no flaw... well, no obvious one at the least. It was strong, yet there seemed to be a few cracks within the stones.

Observing curiously, Laitina leaned forward. She looked over at Lethe, who she already knew had no sight. She didn't question about it though. There was something surprising about the half-Maiar. There air was still, and silent, except for the calls of the bold Eagles hovering above them. They were circling the castle, seeming to glide over the crest-topped mountains, watching and guarding the city, while on the other hand, their eyes seemed to prey apon them, like a cat's sharp eye ready to pounce.

She shivered at this thought, and shook her head. Looking over at Lethe, she leaned back against the wall, the sun's rays now bearly peaking past the rolling hills.

"What's it like in Valinor?"

The scent of lavender and lithiel, the fairest of flowers outside of Valinor began to waft over the city as Elves lit candles. Peach light seemed to glow from inside each building, radiating softly outward and from a distance the city looked like a warmly shining moon. The tumultuous roaring of daily life had died down to silence. Now only the soft ripples of warm sounds as elven mothers sang to their children filled the streets. The whole city softly chanted their tunes, different in melody but synchronous in tune creating the distinct impression of faintly ringing bells. Glorfindel rode by the gathered party, only a few hours remained before they would meet and begin their trek. Corin looked to his companions.

Corin: I believe a visit to Belegost is in order. Our mines provide the finest mithril, and I'm quite sure the price would not be unreasonable. (ooc: repeated from an earlier post, i know)

Glorfindel, stopping to answer the dwarf: It would be in order if we knew a fast way through those lands north of Doriath. We aren?t familiar with such a route.

Corin: Well, it only took me fifteen days to arrive here from the blue mountains. On these stout legs, that?s no small a task. I could show you a quicker route if need be. Supposin? we take the horses, it would take no more than three days if we kept pace.

Glorfindel paused to think. That would add a days worth of travel. However the dwarves of belegost produce the finest of armors, and mithril was not an easily obtained luxury.

Glorfindel: Very well dwarf, we shall follow your lead to the dwarven city of belegost.

The dwarf looked over at his companions, the elves staring into the sunset, gazing at the stars appearing in an ever-darkening sky. Corin scratched his head, looking at his brother. Lorin was sitting on a bench, pint in hand, lazily carving a rune into the soft wood. Looking back at the elves, who never changed position, Corin shook his head.

Corin: elves?

Lethe: ...I have never been there. But my father says it's beautiful. The trees are blooming eternally, and the light is brighter than Varda's thousands of stars.

Laitina: Do you think we'll ever make it there?

Lethe: Of course. Some day.

She smiled at the younger female and touched her face gently. She read her emotions as easily as her words, and treasured the young feelings.....they would not last long on their journey into the darkness.

The Maiar and the Elf turned and stared into the light once more.

As the light began to dim, the clouds were tainted with vermillion rays, and cadet blue clouds. Shades of pink patched the sky as the lavender sky began to appear overhead. Stars were visible now, glittering above them.

"Annûn bain..." Laitina whispered under her breath. "Rare is a sight as beautiful as this."

Laitina's eyes turned away from the light, as if breaking from a trance. Lethe stood by the wall, enjoying the images she recieved from Laitina's mind. She saw them vividly, as if she had visioned them with her own.

"It must be wonderful to live in a place such as Valinor..." Laitina said, imagining the radiance of the place.

Lethe nodded, and smiled. She looked to the west, and sighed. Her chin rose as she took a step away from the wall, staff in hand.

"We'll be leaving in an hour. We should get ready."

The two women walked back into the cool stone buildings again and were led into a quiet resting room with water and towels. Lethe quietly washed her hands and face blind. She combed her hair and adjusted the band of crystal and silver in her hair.

Laitina: How do you manage?

Lethe: I'm used to it....it's not too much of a handicap, but I sometimes wish I could see.

Laitina: Wherever we go, I'll tell you what there is to see.

She smiled and touched Lethe's hand. Lethe grinned, then straightened her clothes. With deft movements, she straightened her robes and adjusted the greased leather for their ride.

Laitina reached for a slice of bread in a pocket along the saddle of her white stallion, and handed it to Lethe.

"Ae Lembas. Edreg bass uin Lorien." Laitina outstretched her hand and offered her a slice.
(It is Lambas. Special bread from Lorien.)

Lethe accepted it, and took a small bite from its corner. It was much lighter than the other Lambas she had tried, and softer at that.

It was a special recipe from her family. They would bring water from the wells of Lothlorien, and grind the leaves of flowers which blossomed there. Laitina took a bite of her own, and smiled at the taste of the bread.

"Avam baur aes anann."
(We will not need food for a long time after this.)

Lethe smiled as she took another bite. It was decently good, that is, compared to some of the things she had eaten along her way to Gondolin. She took two more bites, and saved the rest for later.

Soon after the party began organizing itself, night fell upon them. The ebony dome above sparkled with majesty under the crisp mountain air. Glorfindel waited upon his silver horse, the two dwarves next to him on stout pack-steeds.

Glorfindel eyed the arriving members, "Thank you for coming, I hope you are all prepared. As for weapons and armor, we are to head east to Belegost. Corin and Lorin shall lead the way."

Corin and Lorin smiled at the party. Lethe and Latiana looked at eachother. Slowly the final remaining members began to trickle in to join the group. The twilight sent a cold shiver up most of their backs, half mixed with anxiety. Only time would tell of the peril's ahead.

Glorfindel spoke again, " We will be leaving now, follow silent and swift."

With a soft kick the dwarves headed off, glorfindel flanking them close. Lethe seemed to drink in the cool night air while the humans peered on with concentration at their leader below shining horse-hair adorned helms. The party left the city almost silenty, only light horse noise and the clinking of weapon apon mail echoed through the silent streets. The seven gates opened up to allow the adventurers through.

Darillian sighed with mixed anxiety and excitement, "So it begins.."

Lethe checked her steed, and he went into a cool smooth lope. She adjusted her spine to absorb the shock, and Laitina and she rode side by side...horses moving exactly together. Hardly a sound was made as the two continued in their ride.....the others watched quietly. Both horses were clean and smooth, without bridle, only halter.

The two women scented for a change in the weather....and finding none, continued as usual. A cool chiming sounded in Laitina's head, and she turned to look at Lethe.

"Are you afraid Laitina?"

"No.....I know what has to be done."

"Then smile."

Idril looked around at her surroundings and gazed in wonder. She hadn't been out of Gondolin for the longest time and enjoyed being out in the wilds again. Idril spurred her horse and came up to Glorfindel.

Idril: It is nice to be out of Gondolin even though it is so beautiful.

Glorfindel: Yes I expect so. Since I have been on patrols I do not know what it is like staying there for longer than one year.

Idril: I see...

She looked back to see Lethe and Laitina trotting comfortably beside each other. The other elf was behind them. Idril decided to go and talk to her.

Idril: Where in Middle-Earth do you come from?

Laitina eased, and relaxed on her horse. She first forced a small smile, and eventually shifted to a grin. She began to laugh at herself, and smiled back at Lethe afterwards. Indeed, she was a bit nervous, after all... they were leaving to see Morgoth.

"Do not be afraid of him." Lethe reasurred, calming her glance on the elf.

"It's not he who worries me, but just the thought of going there." Laitina replied. "I mean, it is quite dangerous. I don't want anyone to get hurt."

The two smiled at each other, and continued riding with the group. Laitina turned, and saw another elf riding next to her.

"Where in middle-earth do you come from?" She repeated.

Lethe and Laitina slowed down, and got into pace with the other.

"I am from the House of Last Play." Lethe replied. "And she is from Lorien."

Idril nodded.

"Suilannad. im Idril." Idril introduced, bowing her head.

Laitina bowed her head to Idril, and smiled.

"Where are you from?"

ooc: hello, sorry I'm late (understament) but me here now ^_^

Lorin and Corin rode ahead of the group of elves talking quietly to themselves. Lorin knew that this was going to be an adventure but he had a nigglerly feeling in his stomach.

Lorin: Brother?

Corin: What?

Lorin: I don't think that Father will give away the mithril for that good a price. Even if we ask for it

Corin: Father will, he's been longing to destroy Morogoth for years

Lorin: But last time we saw Father he said that if ever came crawling back....well what do you think he'll say?

Idril smiled warmly
Idril: Originally I am from Nevrast before my Father, Turgon founded Gondolin. I have lived in Gondolin many years and its beauty never fails to astound me. Lorien must be a beautiful place.

Laitina: It is.

Idril nodded and respected the older elf's space for it seem that she had brought some memories upon Laitina. Lethe spoke not but just looked ahead of the group. Idril wondered what she could see for even though she was blind Idril felt that Lethe saw more than a seeing person ever would.

Lethe turned her brilliant silver eyes towards Idril......a soft pale light coming from them. She opened her hand, and the same radience came from it.

Idril: Magic.

Lethe: Yes....my mother and father taught me.

Laitina: Who is your father?

Lethe: I called him Novu...but his true name is secret. For now.

Idril: Then why did you come from the House of the Lost Play?

Lethe: I wandered there after my mother was killed. It's been my real home.

Laitina placed her hand on Lethe's shoulder.

"My mother and father were killed as well." Laitina spoke. "Or... at least my mother was. I haven't seen my father since he disappeared long ago."

Idril nodded sympathetically, and sighed.

"I'm sorry." She spoke softly.

Laitina smiled lightly. Thoughts of Lorien rushed her mind, remembering her mother and father. She never met her father after he disappeared. It was the thought of whether he was living or dead that uneased her mind.

Snorting, Corin turned to his younger brother.

Corin: I shall point out now, brother, that we do not crawl, but we ride. We also ride in the most respectable company.

Lorin: *doubtful* I still think father will class this as "crawling".

Corin: He will not.

Lorin: Aye, but he will.

Corin: Not.

Lorin: Will.

Corin: Do not argue with me, you know you will lose horribly and painfully.

Lorin: *grumbling* You said those same words last time.

Corin: *smugly* And was I not right?

Lorin: No, in fact...

Corin: SILENCE!

Shocked by the yell, the company all turned their gaze on the leading brothers. Corin was red in the face, and Lorin was looking slightly smug with himself.

Duranain: *confused* Is everything alright?

Corin: *chuckling in attempted light-heartedness* Aye, it certainly is! *turns a glare on Lorin, who simply smiles sweetly in return* *grumbling* If we were not kin Lorin...

Lorin: Ah, but we are dear brother. We are.

Lethe concentrated on the feeling of her horse underneath her and the rhythm of the footfalls. A quiet song began to hum to itself in the back of her mind, and she quickly gave it voice.

Lethe: Elbereth Gilthoniel
Bright are thy eyes and clear thy breath....

Idril: Oh star in thy sunless year,
Gave light to us.

Laitina: We who wander here,
Amid this world of woven trees.

The three women sighed quietly, and continued.

Laitina looked to the night sky, and tapped Lethe's hand. The mountains marked the ends of the sky, the horizon behind them creating an aura of periwinkle light behind them. As a few stars glowed radiantly across the blanket of night, birds pirched to their nests, returning to their young. It was nighttime for the birds. It was never to early nor late for them to sleep. It was a full moon. Glowing radiantly above them, the moon seemed to guide them; protect them from harm. Gondolin was truly a magnificant place. No words could describe the city's beauty...

Lethe's eyes slowly opened once more. She grinned at the thought of the place, visioning their horses moving in the dark. It felt exciting. The thought of night made the atmosphere seem queer, yet anxious and ready...

She smiled, and turned her head to Idril. Idril was also busy in her mind, taking the last sights of her city. She wouldn't be seeing it again for a long time. Lethe knew, inside, Idril also knew this. She felt worry in her heart.

Darallian sat by the campfire, poking it occasionally with a stick. He was sitting up, watching the night sky. He gazed around at the moon and the stars, and sighed, thinking of the Undying lands and how he could not return there. He leaned back against a tree. He gazed over at the sleeping form of the Man, Duranain. He wondered what it was like to be a human. A race so young and full of life, yet so suceptiple to curroption and disease. He reached down into his shirt and pulled out a small medallion. He remembered his fathers parting words:
"Do not rush blindly into danger, as some would do. Study the situation. I can send only my prayers and our family sword with you. My the Valar watch over you."

He sighed. They still had a very long ways to go

As they continued, a harsh cry of hunting birds rented the stillness of the night. Lethe's horse reared and she grabbed a handful of mane, locking her legs around his belly. She wheeled him around and kicked on her other Sight. Laitina and Idril both strung their bows and nocked arrows. Lethe's staff poitned upwards, blazing with white light.

Her voice moved the air around them, her song spell echoing in the night.

Lethe: "Awaken,
Soul of the Great Brightness,
Burried in the Depths of the Sundering Seas,
Fly to my hands!"

Energy surged around her staff and transfered itself into the weapons of those around her. Her horse stood like a statue, mane blowing in the wind.

Twelve Raspers hawks screeched and whirled away from the ever growing light...terrified and angry.

Idril: What are they?

Lethe: They are Rasper Hawks. They don't like light and only move in darkness.

Laitina: Apparently.

Idril saw one fly low between her and Laitina. She let her arrow go and saw that it sliced through the bird with ease. Idril looked at her weapon in amazment.

Lethe: The spell is very strong.
Idril could see a slight smile upon Lethe's lips.

She pointed both hand and staff to the sky and the stars seemed to explode with energy. The defenders raised all weapons, and fired. Six Rapsers hawks fell to the earth, shrieking like banshees. Lethe's steed charged, and trampled two of them.....rearing and snorting like he was posessed.

Lethe: Mark this you rabble! Lethe of the Maiar will not spare you if you linger!

Idril: FLEE!

They chattered and ranted, but couldn't come any closer to the ever growing lights. Laitina roared with laughter and her horse bucked and leaped.
