wrist cutter
I've been listening to nothing but GLAY all week. I listen to their upbeat songs like "soul love" when I'm feeling good, but usually I've been listening to their slow songs, which I never get tired of. Particularly "zutto futari de...", which I've listened to at least 10 times today. There are quite a few songs other than that but who cares. Fall
Boys of Summer is a song that I listen to when I feel like shit. Dunno why but I just love the music to it.
Biida
A song that brings back good memories? Ahhh... American Psycho, by Treble Charger; Karma Chamelion, by Boy George and the Culture Club (I personally despise that song, although, the occasional time I do listen to it, it brings back good memories of me and my mom...); and Song 2, by Blur. Songs that depress me? There's too many of them for my liking, but I could name a few off the top of my head. Mudshovel, by Staind; I Feel So, by Box Car Racer; My December, by Linkin Park; Pretty Girl (The Way), by Sugarcult; and Whatever, by Godsmack. There's many more, but if I mention them all then you'd know too much. ^_~

Jake of Bodom
In Flames - My Sweet Shadow - First of all, it's just such a beautiful song. Second of all, I relate to the lyrics really well, and I always listen to it when I need a lift. Coal Chamber - Friend - There is a very specific reason why I picked this on (which I will not go into). It marks the beginning and, more importantly, the end of a very difficult time for me. In Flames - Minus - Again, this song is beautiful. It's reminiscent of a dark time in my life - and this isn't a bad thing. Listening to it reminds me that I've come a very long way. Tool - Parabol/Parabola - Reminds me of being held by a loved one for another specific reason that I will not get into. This is always a good and comforting thing. Seether - Broken (the ORIGINAL version) - Memories of a loved one abound with this one. Flaw - What I Have to Do - This song always assures me I'm not alone in the struggle through high school (I know it sounds cheesy, but hey - we all need this kind of thing). Guest HitomiChan
well, everyone has a song... i think O.o for me is "One" from Metallica. The lyric is perfect! when i fell down or happy, don't matter how i fell in moment. This song make me think, make me see how insignificant we are, the problems, everything! I just love this song... I have other, but this are in my heart! :)
Jakehammaren
I think I actually posted here a long time ago with a previous screen name, but I think I need a redeux. In Flames - Minus In Flames - Trigger These two songs always bring up a very deep emotion from within me. It's very strange... I can't place my finger on what the emotion is exactly, but it's extremely strong. I want to cry, but I also feel really comforted at the same time. Something conjures images of winter, the field behind my house covered in snow, the big, lone tree stands ahead of me, blanketed in soft white, and there's clouds rising from my mouth... I must have been listening to these songs during that segment of time. The strange thing is that there's nothing special in particular about that stroll, it's just what happens in my head when I hear Minus or Trigger. I vaguely remember that walk being very bittersweet though... Anyway, enough of being sentimental. I need to get in my longboat and go pillage something now. For glory! For gold! For Odin! Lafleur
Here's a bunch... Stompin' Tom Connors' The Good Ol' Hockey Game - No other song has captured the essence of the Game than this. It's an awesome vintage tune. Bachman-Turner Overdrive's Takin' Care of Buisness - The perfect way to tell the Man that he can go **** himself. We love to work at nothin' all day! Bachman-Turner Overdrive's Welcome Home - Great thing to play when you get back from a terrible day. RUSH's Closer to the Heart - Such a beautiful song, crafted with the skill and mastery Neil Peart is famous for. Just such an amazing song. RUSH's Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres - The 18-minuet-long epic, crafted in so many differing styles and with an unparalleled mastery, is just such a pickup on a dreary day. The Tragically Hip's 50 Mission Cap - The song is about the death of Toronto Maple Leaf's Hero Ben Birilko. Any song about the death of an accursed Leaf makes me happy.
Guest kuroinuyoukai
My songs would be- Roxette's "Listen to Your Heart" from the 90's. I listen to it when I get that mushy feeling. Evanscence"My Immortal" reminds me of a lost friendship. She was an evil person, but I still care for her as a sister. :animecry: If I 'm blue, Iusually just listen to death metal for the drum beats. I t works when I am angry too. Finally, the song that fits my situation to a tee-Ozzy O's "Fire in the Sky".

Outlaw
There are a couple of songs I love to listen too when I'm in certain moods. But probobly the most important one for me is The Eagles, Get Over It. Whenever I'm feeling down or upset over anything, I just listen to the song, and do what it says. Get Over It.
"Electrical Storm" by U2.. it's fairly knew, but as soon as I heard the line "You're in my mind all the time, I know that's not enough" I just kind of.. clicked.. or something.. I dunno.. I just like that song
I really like this song too. I feel like it's one of their most underratted songs, since it came out recently (nobody likes new songs from old bands). I really think they sould have waited for How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb to release it, rather than release it with a "Best of" CD. Oh, and Driveshaft's You All Everybody. Even though it's only a chorus.
IceRose
The songs that have a deep meaning for me until the day I die are Have a nice day by Bon Jovi, that song taught me that even if life is the worst and gets crappier everyday, somehow things are gonna be alright in the end. Another song is Collide, it holds a special place in my heart because last year when my family members began dying off I went through depression and I began pushing people away from me and then I regret everything I ever said, teaches me a lesson every time I listen to it and reminds me that even though they are gonne they are still with me no matter what. The last song that holds a meaning to be is the song On my own by The Used, I feel like that sometimes, well then I listento Bon Jovi and all is alright. Also, how could I forget the song that is not only my favorite song of all time, but helped me turn my life around? Live and Learn, the Sonic Adventure 2 Main Theme. This song touched me in ways I cannot describe (erase all perverted thoughts from your mind right now) and helped me get back on track with this one verse... Eureka
Some of the songs that have meaning to me at the moment are: Switchfoot- I Dare You to Move Welcome to the planet Welcome to existence Everyone?s here Everyone?s here Everybody?s watching you now Everybody waits for you now What happens next What happens next I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened before Welcome to the fallout Welcome to resistance The tension is here Tension is here Between who you are and who you could be Between how it is and how it should be I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened Maybe redemption has stories to tell Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell Where can you run to escape from yourself? Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? Salvation is here I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened Today never happened Today never happened before It just inspires me to change something or get out there and act on what I belive in. It's weird for me because this song is totally out of my usual genre. Another one for me would be- Evanescense: Everybody's Fool Perfect by nature Icons of self indulgence Just what we all need More lies about a world that Never was and never will be Have you no shame? Don't you see me? You know you've got everybody fooled Look here she comes now Bow down and stare in wonder Oh how we love you no flaws when you're pretending but now I know she Never was and never will be You don't know how you've betrayed me And somehow you've got everybody fooled Without the mask Where will you hide? Can't find yourself Lost in your lie I know the truth now I know who you are And I don't love you anymore It never was and never will be You don't know how you've betrayed me And somehow you've got everybody fooled It never was and never will be You're not real and you can't save me Somehow now you're everybody's fool This song is perfect for me at the moment. I look around at all the people hiding behind this facade, obvious their not being who they really are. It's a message and I love it. Some others at the moment are: - Goo-Goo Dolls- Iris ((This song sounds like me in a nutshell)) - Linkin Park - Numb ((I got so mad the other day, I was hurt, betrayed. The song was perfect. - Linkin Park - In the End (( I love this song. Everytime i'm down it helps me.)) - My Will ((Inuyasha Ending 1)) The song's beautiful. It never fails to speak to me in some way. - Lost Prophets- Last Train home & Last Summer ((These songs are so nostalgic for me.)) - Incubus - Agoraphobia. ((This song is me when i'm in a crowd. I hate people sometimes.)) I'll spare you anymore, sorry for the long post. ^_^;

Outlaw
Hmmm, Heero Yuy and Jakehammaren bring up an interesting point. I'm interested to hear why you guys beleive bands like Slipknot and Disturbed aren't Metal. Now, I wouldn't define them as Heavy Metal per-say, as I leave that title to the hard rocking, heavy drinking, coke of a groupies #!# blowing bands, but I would atleast define them as Death Metal. I personally define Metal by it's fast tempo, heavy percussion, lots of emotion (in this case LOTS of anger), and, of course, lots of screaming. Now, some of you may disagree with me, so please, if you do, respond and tell me what you think metal really is. Ailes de Velour
A lot of the songs that do this to me come from broadway. Here goes. No One is Alone from Into the Woods: Mother cannot guide you. Now you're on your own. Only me beside you. Still, you're not alone. No one is alone. Truly. No one is alone. Sometimes people leave you. Halfway through the wood. Others may decieve you. You decide whats good. You decide alone. But no one is alone. That's only an excerpt, but wow. <333 Defying Gravity from Wicked: So if you care to find me Look to the western sky! As someone told me lately: "Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly!" And if I'm flying solo At least I'm flying free To those who'd ground me Take a message back from me Tell them how I am Defying gravity I'm flying high Defying gravity And soon I'll match them in renown And nobody in all of Oz No Wizard that there is or was Is ever gonna bring me down! Again, only an excerpt, but it's amazing. If you change wizard and Oz to actual people and places in the real world, it could be some kind of amazing moral I could base my life around if I had the will to. No One Mourns the Wicked from Wicked No one mourns the Wicked No one cries "They won't return!" No one lays a lily on their grave The good man scorns the Wicked! Through their lives, our children learn What we miss, when we misbehave: And Goodness knows The Wicked's lives are lonely Goodness knows The Wicked die alone It just shows when you're Wicked You're left only On your own Yes, Goodness knows The Wicked's lives are lonely Goodness knows The Wicked cry alone Nothing grows for the Wicked They reap only What they've sown For Good from Wicked I've heard it said That people come into our lives for a reason Bringing something we must learn And we are led To those who help us most to grow If we let them And we help them in return Well, I don't know if I believe that's true But I know I'm who I am today Because I knew you: Like a comet pulled from orbit As it passes a sun Like a stream that meets a boulder Halfway through the wood Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you I have been changed for good Hm...I guess Wicked just does that to me. Tearz. Let's see, non-broadway music. Sleeping With Ghosts by Placebo The sea?s evaporated Though it comes as no surprise These clouds we?re seeing Their explosions in the sky It seems it?s written But we can?t read between the line Hush It?s okay Dry your eye Dry your eye Soulmate dry your eye Dry your eye Soulmate dry your eye Cause soulmates never die Beauty of the Beast (Long Lost Love) by Nightwish Trees have dropped their leaves, Clouds their waters All this burden is killing me Distance is covering your way, Tears your memory All this beauty is killing me Oh, do you care, I still feel for you So aware, What should be lost is there I fear I will never find anyone I know my greatest pain is yet to come Will we find each other in the dark My long lost love Any Old Actress by Rasputina They saw her break through barriers forty feet high It was the finest moment in a long life Young boys would hang her pictures over their bed They saw her mouth move but they couldn't hear what she said You're a souvenir a darling dear She used to say that kind of thing You're a mantlepiece with strong beliefs Only her black rainbow meant something Don't cry for her now Oh yeah Don't cry for her Oh yeah I saw the sailor talking with the cops I saw the sailor walking with the cops First comes the nurse, just got back from war She had a feather in her cap That's all she wore Then comes the mother and she's got a friend And they start yelling at you and that's how it all began It's one of those things you should not try at home What's meant by intentional falls can never be known Any old actress worth her salt outta know The higher you are you want to see what's below And old actress worth her salt outta know The higher you are you want to see what's below And old actress worth her salt outta know (that was the whole song) I guess I'm kind of an overly sensitive person...really. I get emotionally attached to inanimate objects and I feel really bad if I throw something away. o_O;; odd me. Anyway, the lyrics are slightly less awesome without the music, but I still think they're amazing. Whether I can relate to them or not, I don't know. Especially "Any Old Actress," I have no idea how it can relate to me or why I love it so much, but I do. I think it links back to the best summer I ever had...a lot of songs link back to happier days. Even songs I hate, like some Good Charlotte songs that my friend used to listen to when we were in seventh grade. Oh yeah, the Cheers theme makes me sad, too. "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came..." so true.
Goodbye, Face
Is anyone else aware that this thread started waaay back in 2003? I was wondering about Jesus Chicken being the thread starter... To me, there's two types of "those songs...," those that I listened to at hard times and recieved solace from doing so, or songs that are just plain sad or uplifting. I won't post lyrics to these simply because no one will read them, thus it's a waste. If you are truly interested, you should be able to find these on Google. To make this a rule-abiding post, I'll post my thoughts on them. Beloved - Failure On My Lips This song tends to bring a few tears to my eyes, the lyrics are very true to me. If you met me, and had the lyrics to go by, you would see those lyrics in me. I tend to feel like a failure often, and it's because of choices that I've made, and people I can't protect. The lyric "We feign as a shield," with it being in the rest of this sad song, almost seems too specific to me. There was someone in my life I failed to protect. I won't go into that. Glass Casket - A Gray A.M. You Will Never Get To See This song is about the singer's sister who died. He describes the moment he finds out vividly, and says that it is his mission in life to carry on her kindness throughout his life, since she no longer can. "...And tell the whole world what a wonderful person they will never get to meet." Swift - Dr. Shaw In this song, the singer is afraid of his father, he references moments in his life where his father would beat him up and stuff. My connection with this song isn't based on parents or abuse or anything like that. It kind of has an idea behind it that basically says that if your own father hates you, what does that say about everyone else? I shared his mindset for a certain time, I felt the whole world was against me, as did he. This song really helped. "I hope your shoe's shined from all the tears that you walk on." Circa Survive - We're All Thieves The lyrics won't help you here, the song itself is beautiful. If the chorus doesn't bring tears to your eyes, I hate you. *sniff*

Kirika
Well, Motion City Soundtrack's new album, Commit This to Memory reminds me of my summer break since I listened to it a lot during that time. "Bellflower" from the Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean Original Soundtrack reminds me of fall/winter of last year. "Fields of Hope" by Lacus Clyne (I think that's the artist) reminds me of a friend who died. It was her favorite song.
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. I suppose the songs that ?meant the most to me? would have to be songs that help get the old creative juices flowing when I?m writing new stories for RPGs in the Arena . I?m not a huge music fan so I don?t associate too many songs with memories or the like, that said there are a couple of them and mostly they remind of friends. As I said though music for me is primarily a kind of focussing tool to allow me to get into the mood for writing. I can?t really post the songs in any kind of order as it all depends on the mood I?m in in the first place. Thunder and Lightning by Thin Lizzy: I was watching The Lost Boys a couple of days ago when I remembered the first few lyrics to this song, I can?t explain why but I just had to listen to the song. Since then I find it to have a good and fast beat which is very helpful for certain genres of RPG which require that same kind of pace to write. Dedication by Thin Lizzy: Another Thin Lizzy song, though this one has more personal significance than being a focus aide, back a year or two ago when I was feeling really down on my luck I found this song to be very good to help lift my spirits and make me feel better. I think the background electric guitars to this song are what really give it the substance, and for RPGs this particular song is useful for when writing character battle scenes. The Boys Are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy: This one is purely nostalgic in nature, despite being a very good song in it?s own right, when I play it, it reminds me of times when myself and my friends who are off in college were together and of good times with them. I suppose due to the lyrics of the song itself, it also could remind me that I will see my friends again and that we could relive some of those old times again when we get together. Thriller by Michael Jackson: Whatever the man?s personal preferences, there?s no denying he was one hell of a performer at his best, this doesn?t really have any personal significance although once or twice it has reminded me of a friend who may very well have been a zombie most of the time. Mainly it?s just a song to listen to if I?m feeling good and just want to laugh a bit to, it also provokes some shoulder moving but we won?t go into that. Headlong by Queen: When my brother and sister gave me one of my mother?s Queen CDs for Christmas last year, my siblings and I are terrible at buying presents for one another and usually it?s just a cash exchange., I didn?t really think much of it. But the more I play these songs the more I like them and the more it reminds me of certain events, this particular song reminds me of the Junior Cert I sat three and a half years ago, the lyrics remind me of the absolute anarchy that was felt by my year going into the Junior Cert, and the massive amounts of study we had to get through. Of course all that study paled quickly in comparison to that which we had to do for Fifth Year two years afterwards. It?s Electric by Metallica: I know it?s a cover song but this is my quintessential pump song, I play this song either when I?m in a good mood to feel even better, when I?m feeling down and want to feel better, or when I?m writing an action sequence for an RPG. In terms of memories, this reminds me of a student concert we had the day the Junior Cert ended, it was a whole lot of fun, even though this actual song wasn?t played.
