KittyLynn
Have any of you guys bred hamsters? Well. I need some help. Hamsters sometimes cease to go in heat in the winter. Well I can't seem to get Belle into heat. I've put a bright light by her cage so it seems like the summer. I heard that from someone, and to make it warm, so I put a blanket over the cage. But do you think this will be enough? What have you guys done. If you have ever done this? Please help.^__^
Charles
I don't have any hampters, so I can't be much help. My advice is--dim the lights and play some romantic music or show it some dirty magazines. :shrugs: Then again, maybe she wants more out of her relationships than kinky hampster sex. She could be at that stage in her life where she just wants to talk and make a connection; she might enjoy long walks on the wheel or poetry. GinnyLyn
We once were able to breed our gerbils--we had a black mother and an albino father. If I remember correctly, it was winter when it happened. Lots n lots of toitet paper rolls (they shred them not only to keep their teeth sharp, but for the warm strips that are left over) and shavings, too. Ours had a sad ending. After we found she had given birth, we had to take the mother away from the babies. Out of three, one died right after it was born, and another disappeared completely (gruesome end). The third we tried to nurse ourselves, but...it died in our hands. That had to be one of the saddest things ever for me. :bawl: Anyways, yes, keep it warm! Treats, food, shavings, rolls, all that good stuff. And make sure you have two healthy, young hamsters--older ones are a lot less likely to breed.
KittyLynn
Thanks. I'm sorry about the gerbils. :( But you tried to help them so, thats good. Well if breeding is possible in winter than thats good. I feel the same way about animals, I can't stand when they are sick, hurt or anything. I hope the birth goes well. Compared to gerbils, Hamsters can have up to 20 babies..:nervous: But I'm up for it!
