BigCajones
This guy is at such at early point in his career and he has already achieved quite a bit in my eyes. He has won several awards for best rapper, best hip-hop, etc. The reason I have alot of respect for him is, because he writes his own lyrics and he doesn't care what anyone else thinks he just gets on the microphone and says what he feels. You can't beat him in lyrical battles he will just rip you apart! His genre of music is on various music channels though from rock/metal channels to RnB/hip hop channels. Although I think his opinions are ignorant at times I just enjoy listening to his music. I try to ignore what he says in some songs as he can be quite offensive to groups of people i.e. 'homosexuals' and that's when I think he gets out of line. He can have his opinions, but someitmes he needs to keep his mouth shut, because it's not doing him any good just getting in to trouble if anything. I'm not one of those types that listen to Eminem, because he swears alot and that's classed as 'cool' to little kids. Children shouldn't really be listening to his stuff and parents should think twice before getting some of his albums or whatever as they are very explicit for children! I also like him in his band D12. I can't think of my favourite song right now there are a few! With D12 my favourite song is probably 'That's How...'. :smirk: Now he's in a movie 8 Mile which I will hopefully be seeing this weekend. The part suits Eminem so it shouldn't of been too hard for him to act in even though I hear he did a great job with emotional scenes with his daughter "just imagined she was Hailie" -quote Eminem. Marshall is a multi-talented man if you ask me. Some questions- Well what do you all think of Eminem being himself? How do you like him for his musical talent? What are your favourite songs of his (or D12's)? Does anyone think he has an acting career in the future? - Did anyone like him in 8 Mile? Hope there can be an interesting discussion over the controversial Eminem/Slim Shady/Marshall Mathers! :)
Semjaza
I have very little thoughts on him surprisingly (usually I never shut up in these thread hehe XD). I find it extremely egotistical and obnoxious honestly. At the same time I find some of his songs rather catchy and surprisingly intelligent, which is rather refreshing. Sometimes he makes comments that make me want to take back the "egotistcal" thing I said. I was surprised that he actually admitted he got this far in good part because he was white, among other things. Him and Manson are actually friends, which is the only reason I ever know anything about what Eminem is doing. I would love to see the full clip of Manson and Eminem playing a The Way I Am live in Germany (although there is a rather average remix of the song on the Marshall Mathers LP rerelease featuring Manson). The Manson DVD had a random Eminem clip on it too heh. Strange collaborations I guess heh. Anyway, he's not bad overall. I certinaly wouldn't listen to him for any extended period time though. Once a month will suffice :D. Also, I really liked the video with Dido for the song Stan.
BlueGender
I am a huge fan he seem's like one of the few rappers who have anything to say in my opinion. I hate it when people make him out to be saying something which hasn't been said before people have been saying the exact same things but haven't been getting the widespread attention because they are black rappers. Dont get me wrong im a huge Em fan have been since I heard Rock Bottom but he's not the best rapper out there and to say so is just ignorant. His music on is CD's seem to be toned down in my opinion to get a larger appeal with white audiences his underground tracks like his 2 recent disses to Benzino have been much harder then the stuff on his albums. He seems to be going in the right direction with his record label recently signing 50 Cent who is blowing up on the radio. His beef with Ja Rule and Nelly looks like they are going to produce some good music on his part...I cant say that for Nelly and Ja cause all there music is horrible in my opinion. D-12's next album is suppose to drop in late sumer/early fall and to be better then there last album beause they are all tryng to step out of Em's shadow and the last album did little to establish them as a serious group with the whole Purple Hills/Pills stuff so they ae working 10x harder this time to mke every track as good as they can.50's album is said to be released tommorow because the tracks leaked and Obie's album is to drop in April or May.All of which will be produced by Eminem to so extent. He also is coming out with his own clothing line which wll probablly be quite sucessful.Eminem is becoming quite the busy man doing tracks with huge rappers (Nas, Jay-Z, DMX) I tink he's only gona get bigger as time goes by. Juu
I don't really like alot of rap, but I'm a huge fan of Eminem. Okay... so some of his lyrics might not be the cleanest, but some of them are pretty funny. ^_^; I remember having 'The Real Slim Shady' stuck in my head for a loooong time a few years ago. In fact, one of my guyfriends has that ringtone on his Nokia. @_@;;;;;;; My favorite songs so far would have to be 'Stan', '8-mile', and 'Without Me'. ^_^; I really don't like the lyrics on 'Stan', though. Alot of people like him at my school. Alot of my friends have his poster in their lockers... In my case, I have Orlandy and... B- *sees Lalaith turn the corner* Nothing else. o_o;
JCBaggee
Ah, Eminem...what can be said about him that hasn't already? I'll admit, the videos are funny, but he's just so...offensive. I don't take it personally, but sometimes he just goes too friggin' far. Other than that, my only beef is that...well, I hate rap. But that's me ^_^ --Chris
Celia
Omg... Eminem is so hot!!! He is an extremely good rapper, but *coughs* most of the songs are dirty. My favorite songs are " 8 Mile" and " *winks*
BigCajones
Some people say I look like Eminem ^_^;; but I'm pretty sure I don't it's just, because I have blonde hair is my guess! I also used to have an Eminem ringtone, I had 'Without Me' until I lost my phone. I never usually like anything based on hip-hop/rap but there is just something about Eminem that makes me like him! He's got something special to make him this good, and he does it so well with all the controversial issues based on him and his bad childhood justs gives him something to rap about (his mum). Not the best idea, but he is funny with his lyrics! *tries to remember favourite songs* I have a few of Eminem's albums and what I've noticed is that he has mostly serious songs, but then he will release a more jolly song with a funny video. OK well I will name a song from each album I have: The Slim Shady LP: Funny song- 'My Name Is' Best song- 'My Fault' The Marshall Mathers LP: Funny song- 'The Real Slim Shady' Best Song- 'The Way I Am' The Eminem Show: Funny song- 'Without Me' Best song- hmm there is a few... I'll just say 'Soldier' I haven't got the D12 album but it's called Devil Nights. I've got two of there singles and they are pretty good actually: Funny song- 'Purple Hills/Pills' Best song- 'That's How...' With what I've heard this is a pretty good album, but it's extremely explicit which is it's downfall having to change there songs completely to be released- well played on the radio and so on. There are loads more songs I like, but I decided to limit it. :) Then there is 'Lose Yourself' from the 8 Mile soundtrack. Has anyone seen that film, what did you think of Eminem in it? Does he have an acting career in his future??? :therock: EDIT: I also respect Eminem, because he always fills up his albums with usually 20 songs even though some are skits. I've heard some serious skits with gun shots, intros, outros and lets just say there are also some interesting ones ... ;) to say the least. :naughty:
jayrok
Eminem is one of the most talented lyricist out there. He takes it to the limit, that's what he wants to do. The guy knows what he's doing. Very little hip hop artists can actually make Eminem a run for his money. He doesn't always rap about "whips"(cars and such) , "bling bling"(jewelry) and shoes(look at Nelly). Hip hop ususally today, rap about materialistic things. Seldom do you see artists nowadays bring in stories that we can relate to. I for one, can relate to Em. I write songs myself, and I make music. I have a Digital Studio at my home, hopefully I can run with it.:D I take it to heart to write personal stuff, in ways that I can't express through actions. Music is pretty much my outlet. Eminem is the same. I'm not saying I'm idolzing the man, but I respect his talent, and what he brings. His acting in the 8-Mile movie was good, although I really didn't like the movie that much. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. But, Marshall did a good job on his part. I'm filipino btw, just in case anyone is wondering.
Jinzouningen17
I am also a huge fan of Eminem. Not because of the stuff that you all hear(because personally, I cant stand the stuff that they put on TV. There are a few songs of his that they put on TV that I like...well, used to like.), but mainly because of the stuff that no one else gets to hear unless you download it. Mainly his underground stuff, his battles, and his freestyles. Eminem has got to be one of the greatest freestyle rappers I've heard in my life. I mean, he can rhyme about anything. I downloaded this one freestyle track he got where he said he'd beat someone to death with a feather pillow. Also when he's freestylin, he'll slip in a dis and you wouldnt even know it, like in the same freestyle he dissed No Limit, Brandy, Mase, AND Mystikal and you wouldnt even recognize it unless you listened to it closely. Also, his underground stuff is definetly somethin to be reckoned with. If you havent heard the album known as "F'n Crazy", then you're definetly missin out on some hot stuff. Also, I suggest gettin the DJ Green Lantern Mix CD known as "InVasion" which has my favorite song by Eminem on there(known as "InVasion". ^_^). That track InVasion was a full freestyle, but the way the rhymin just flowed wit the beat was somethin special. Plus the way he dissed Benzino was lovely to. Also on that "InVasion" CD, there's a lost remix of "My Name Is" which is definetly a track that I HIGHLY recommend everyone to hear. Its the same song, just a different beat. But anyway, back on the subject of Benzino, it leads me to Eminem's battle raps. Eminem is definetly one of the hottest battle rappers to ever exist. His most recent battle with Benzino(you know, the guy that does the song "Rock The Party". He's also the editor of the Source Magazine)would have to be considered one of the hottest battles of 2002 other than Jay Z Vs Nas. This battle definetly made Em come out with the best stuff I've ever heard. Stuff like "The Sauce", "InVasion"(which I talked about earlier), and "Grandfather Rap(AKA "Nail in the Coffin")" which would probably have to be one of the hardest friggen disses I've heard in my entire life. I'm surprised Benzino didnt retire after that diss, but he had the nerve to come out wit another track against Em and write an article dissin Em and XXL Magazine(which is the magazine that Eminem, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent are down with), which thus caused Em to get ready to come out with another Benzino diss called "Boston B----"(which is yet to be released. And the reason he called it that is because Benzino is from..."The Mean Streets of Boston". LOL). I cant wait until that track comes out so I can hear how bad he's gonna kill Benzino on that one. Now as far as his albums go, everyone always talk about his albums called "The Slim Shady LP", "The Marshall Mathers LP", and "The Slim Shady Show", but yall dont know that thats not the only album that he came out with. In my personal opinion, the best album he came out wit was his first one which was called "Infinite". That entire album is good from beginning to end. He doesnt really diss anyone on there, and he talks about a few subjects such as Jealousy, Aids, Relationships, and all that other stuff. Em was real young when he made this album, so when you hear it, you may not recognize his voice until he mentions his name in one of the tracks. But I highly recommend everyone to somehow, someway get their hands on "Infinite". But there is more to Eminem than meets the eye. ALOT more. I'm tellin ya, even if you dont like Eminem now, try listenin to his freestyles, underground stuff, and his battle raps and I guarantee that you'll gain a new appreciation for Em. Oh yeah, here is an album cover I made for an Eminem Album that I made(puttin his Underground and Freestyle stuff on there.)
James
I'm not a fan of Eminem at all. After listening to quite a few of his songs (my little sister loves him) and seeing the way his career has moved, I totally dislike him now. First and foremost, many of his songs revolve around the same subject (often it's something to do with how cutting edge he is and how nobody can stop him talking). That in itself is incredibly egotistical and annoying. Secondly, Enimem constantly acts with this holier than thou attitude...as though he's not there for the fame or the money. And yet, here he is with a propaganda-laced movie...and now a clothing line of all things. He's a hypocrite...and I think most of his popularity comes from the cheap shocks that he provides. Some of his songs do have interesting messages, but I would never class them as very profound or earth shattering. To me, Eminem is a disappointment. He's increasingly becoming a commercial production with very little substance whatsoever. Oh and...I love the way he says that nobody listens to techno anymore. I guess he hasn't been to Europe at any point in the last thirty years. Also, have you heard the actual music in his songs lately? Gee, I wonder what it is. It's techno...and extremely poor quality techno at that. Of course, that's just my opinion. I respect those who like his music, because I'm aware that we all have different tastes.
BigCajones
Hey I agree with you there and I've heard good stuff about 'Infinite' and have been trying to get my hands on it, but I can't find it anywhere V_V I also watched some best rapping program and that's were I heard about his lyrical battles with Benzino. They quoted some of the lyrics it's funny! 'The sauce' is the one I've heard the most about. I've heard a few of his freestyling tracks, one with Xzibit and one with Dr. Dre I think *searches for them* and a few solo. I'm sure if that's my kind of thing when it comes down to music, but if you name me his best freestyling tracks I will try to download them ^_^ You've got to respect this man though, he will go down in history as one of the best rappers in my books. His problems, opinions, rivals, childhood ... There is no point in a biography/auto-biography for this man, just give him a mic and he will tell it to you straight, whether he will have to pay for his acts 'he just don't give a F***!' :demon: Thanks for the information :) EDIT: You bring up some good points there James and I suppose not everyone has the same taste. The thing I don't get is if he is for the fame and money (I'm sure most artists are in there own way), then why does he get himself in trouble so much and say offend his mum on purpose and getting sued as the consequences. It's a bit of a waste really, but I'm sure he does want money, but I'm not bothered about him I more into his music although his controversial life is quite interesting I think. He may enjoy acting, but even if it is just for the money would you turn down that opportunity? There are so many singers/bands that are coming commercial these days, so I'm not suprised really, what can I say he's a fashion model! Not a great role model though with his attitude but hey lol :p
Break
I have never really liked Eminem, I do have the Slim Shady LP, but the last time I listened to it was about two years ago. I don't like his attitude at all really, agreeing with James here, that he is egotistical, and that annoys me. Yeah sure, he "tells it like it is", but (sorry to compare) don't Slipknot tell it like it is too (eg. "everybody dies, shuffle on, remove it")? Have you once heard Eminem say that we're all gonna die? Then he doesn't "tell it like it is", sorry. ^^;; He's too mainstream and commercial for me, the only thing I like about his songs are the music in them; not his singing (take Lose Yourself for example). I'll never like him..
BigCajones
Heh everyone has their own opinions and even though I still like Slipknot more than Eminem I will still stick up for him. Break maybe D12 are more your thing, I'm not sure. Well the thing is in one of his songs I'm pretty sure that he has said everybody dies, don't quote me on this, but I think its in one of the freestyling tracks I've downloaded which you may of not heard. Talking of commercial... *Slipknot comes to mind*, still so many bands and solo artists are becoming commercial money is simply a tempting thing in reality. He's a ego-maniac, but he has alot to feel good about even though he makes terrible decisions at times it's his life he can do what he wants. At such at young age he is going to accomplish big things in his life ... well if he hasn't been murdered, drugged up, or arrested in the near future. As I said everyone is entitled to their own opinion and Slipknot is a good choice *agrees with Break* ^_^
L.A. Rod.
I think that it is perfectly alright for Eminem to be himself and write anything that he wants to. There is no law that says he cannot do this, rather there is a law that gives him permission. His musical talent is some of the best artistically that I have seen in some time, and I think he should continue to do what he is doing. My favorite songs of his are "Without Me" and "Lose Yourself" No, I don't think he has a real film career in his future. He's simply going to do small roles for most of his career and probably never do an "8 mile" type film again. As for him as a person, I think he's a really big loser that is not as real as he may say or express that he is. Sure, I think it is fine to shoot back at people who like to get personal, like moby or Cristina. Still, he does make fun of random people every once in a while, but when he becomes the butt of jokes, he isn't having that. For example, at the VMAs, Triumph the insult comic dog from the Conan Show came, and his job is just to make jokes about people, but Eminen shoved a hand puppet away and got his crew to block him away from the hand puppet. Doesn't have as big of balls as he says.
jayrok
J17, help me out on how to get a hold on his underground stuff. As far as music tastes go, FYI, I have different tastes as well. From rock to rap, to country, classical, techno, and even pop. :D
Bing
Hmm...Eminem. I don't really have much respect for him, but there a few things I like about him. Some of his songs are great, and D12 are a superb creation, and it was a good idea to sign them on Shady Records. I would say though, 'Infinite' is the best album. I've heard it all, and it's extremely different. It has guitar riffs in it, and a lot more musical wise than the other albums. His lyrics actually mean something in this album. I really disagree with making songs that just say f--k repeatedley though, I find it really off putting, because it means you can't play it in certain places. Download tracks from Infinite if you can find any, but it is no longer available in record shops. Sorry guys! And, on the topic of sueing people, and being sued, I think people should leave him alone. He has been sued so many time, it's unbelievable. Oh...I keep going on and on. If you can find this anywhere, download it... Eminem and Elton John - Stan. He did a superb one off live performance with him, it really was something special. Right, I'm done *ends ramble*
Subversive
OK, with your egotistical comments, I think just about everyone that high up in the Celebrity ladder is a little egotistical. Unless someone has some religious explination for their talents (which I do) they're completely egotistical and the ones with religious reasons still are too. We're humans man, we're all selfish to some point. Well, yes he is more to the extreme then most, but thats what sells his records. Hey, you gotta do what ya gotta do, and your opinion is a valid as the next. I see where you going, but to me, atleast right now, I don't see that being a downside to his success.
