Waking Life: Face The Beginning

It is 30,000 years after the President of the United States of America nuked the whole world. He chose 50,000 people to live. Those 50,000 breeded and replaced human kind. A peace over all the land lasted for 5,000 years...Then the Ack'Tanar came. They took control of the human race. Now only 25,000 humans are "free". The world is just starting to grow tree's and plants again, making almost all of the world barren desert with rivers, springs and the like sparse. The "free" humans have evolved. The animals that survived also evolved. Now, the "free" humans are bonded from 1-3 animals...but there is 2 exceptions to this. One, a young man named Draagul, has 5 animals bonded with him. There is also a female out there, with 5 animals bonded to her as well. (Sidenote: animals are also bonded with other animals, you can make up the combos but it is only 2 animal bonded with each other, a pideer, is a pig and deer.)
------------------------------------------------
Draagul walked along the desolate Plains, searching for food. When he spotted a pideer, he stopped. Sniffing the air and letting his animal instincts come in to play, he started to stalk his prey. Waiting until the last moment he took the pideer down and snapped its neck in one clean movement.

Draagul:Swift journey.

Draagul started to skin the animal and cut the meat into provisions. Rion would like this. Even though she took over the Bear Clan leadership after her father died, his adoptive father, she was still a good friend and almost like a sister to him. Draagul decided that before he went to the Bear Clan, he would make some toys for the children. Little Auronde would be pleased.

Nepenthe the spider bonded walked through the forests....totally unafraid of the demons howling in the night. None of them would touch somebody pledged to Loloth....it would be death. Once she cleared the thickest part of the forest, she climbed up an oak with the ease of a panther and settled herself in the thick broad branches.

Once there, she wrapped her legs around the bole of the tree and leaned back easily. As she relaxed, she comtemplated her lot in life. The Yatherine's had released her under oath to never speak of them to any but She......and Loloth herself had marked Nepenthe for her own...uses.

Not a bad start.

Paige walked through a sparsly populated forest. She looked around at all the new grown trees. She smiled. It was nice to have trees again...she had heard how lovely they were from tales of the old days.
Paige sighed. She had never had a real home in all her life. The other tribes would let her stay for a while but never all that long. She didn't belong with them, she didn't belong with anyone.
A snap of a branch awoke her from her contemplations. She looked around but saw no one about. Just to make sure Paige jumped with ease into the tree above her and looked about. Seeing no one again she started to gracefully swing through the trees.

The sun was harsh in the desert wast lands. Life is hard to come by in these conditions. Moveing quietly and without any visably problem was a lone figure of a young girl. Strangely the weather seemed to have no effect on her. A small pack on her back contained all the food she had collected as well as some other items.
Silvia closely resembled a human from the ancient day's, much to her dislike.
It's been two day's since she last drank water and even less since she ate a meal. Ahead in the distance a patch of young tree's could be seen. She headed towards it decideing it was best to restock.
Hopefully my clan will have given up looking for me by now, She thought to herself as she moved closer to the small "jungle". The smell of her surroundings were very refreshing and already she could hear the sounds made by small animal's and birds that were near by. Crouching near the ground she moved swiftly into the bushes, waiting.
All other sounds around her were blocked out as she focused on what appeared to be a rabbit ahead. The sounds in the tree tops were not noticed as she prepaired to strike.

Ranhorn had been stalking the rabbit for what seemed like hours. He was toyign with it really. Using it to keep his hunting skills in check. The rest of the pack had returned to camp, but not Ranhorn. He wanted to have a little fun with the rabbit, follow it for a while. In the back of his head he hoped it would lead him to a large group of rabbits. But ofcource, he new no such group existed anymore. He would eventually kill and return to camp. However, as the rabbit began to reach the edge of the woods, he picked up a new smell. It smelled like......snake.

Ranhorn: There hasn't been a reptile in this area for years.

Ranhorn searched around silently, using every hunting skill he had ever learned to remain undetected. Than, he spoted her. A humonoid looking creature with green, skaley nake skin.

Ranhorn: Perfect. And it seems that it's hunting that rabbit too. I'll just what for it to come into the open after the rabbit. It will provide good nurusment for our cubs.

Ranhorn crouched perfectly still, undetectible, waiting for the snake-creature to reveil herself.

Nepenthe dropped down, tunic flaring around her. Silvia shrieked and whirled around, firing her arrow deep into Nepenthe's shoulder. The rabbit fled, unoticed. She screamed, and backed away. The older sorceress shrugged and tugged it out swiftly. She rolled up several lengths of grass and leaves and pressed it to the wound.

Silvia: I'm so sorry!

Nepenthe: ...it's nothing. Do you always greet visitors like this?

Silvia: .....damn. Can you forgive me?

Nepenthe: Of course. It's a mistake...anyone could've made it. I'm Nepenthe Sevenstar. Pleasure.

Silvia: ...I'm Silvia. Do you have any food?

Nepenthe: Well...there is a deer in my perch, but you'll have to climb and get it down.

Paige stopped when she saw the strangers below her. She looked off to the side to see an unusual creature coming up from behind one of the strangers. It didn't really look as though it had a good intent.
Paige jumped lightly off the branch she had been sitting on and landed in between the hunter and his unaware pray. The hunter looked up and grinned.

Ranhorn: And what do we have here? Another one to feed to the cubs?

Paige narrowed her eyes and issued a low growl. Ranhorn back up a bit but still had the same grin on his face. Paige turned to face the others.

Nepenthe: Ah...yet another visitor.

Silvia looked to see Ranhorn come up behind Paige with his fist held up high.
Silvia: Watch out!

Paige jump up just in time to see Ranhorn's fist strike nothing. She landed lightly a few feet away from him

Silvia: Woah.

Nepenthe: I hate people that sneak up on others with malicious intent...usually, I feed that type of person to Zhor, but you're a interesting character, and the other women here might not like seeing that.

Pagie: Where do you come from?

Nepenthe: Loloth's hands. I can not tell you anything else...but I am pledged to the Spider Goddess.

Ranhorn: Ugh...

Nepenthe: Shut up or I will gut you.

Silvia: Are you always this cruel?

Nepenthe: I'm not going to kill him.

Uh...Draagul one little problem, I'm a boy in this RPG. :D That's all
********************************************
Rion felt trapped and crowded in the council cave. He was not even listening, his eyes were only focused on the entrance. Silently daydreaming about being out there hunting or just being alone. But of course he never had that, now that his father died. He let out a very loud and long sigh which quickly drew the attention towards him. Slightly surprised, he looked around then a sudden thought struck him.

"I'm going outside," He said, his deep voice booming around him, echoing off the cave walls, making it seem as if a distant thunderstorm was coming.

"But we are in the middle of a council!" His first councilman named Seborl said, in a strangly high pitched voice, that was extremely rare in the bear clan.

"I've had enough of this council, by the time we get finished I'd be so bored and tired I wouldn't be able to think straight. So I'm leaving you to argue about what we should do. Then when your done summon me to tell me the top three ideas, and then one by one tell me your opinions about these ideas. I will then pick which one I think is best. And don't call me or follow me until you are finished with the council." Rion gave a stern look to Seborl, who followed him everywhere, babbling in his ear, it was like having a extremly high pitched and talkative shadow.
Pleased to be away, Rion walked out of the cave hearing the council pick back up. Breathing in huge gasps of freash air he walked in the shadows hoping to slip away un-noticed. Outside the clan's territory Rion looked around, looking around for his best friend Draagul. Catching his friend's scent he set off besides, councils like this one usually took up a few days.

Tao crouched high in the tree, muscles tense, prepared for the next lethal blow. The fool wouldn't know what hit him. The small man stopped for a moment under a large oak, and took a deep breath.
"Perfect."
Tao drew his sword out slowly, prepared to cut down his target. The small man started to rise again.
Tao quickly leapt from the branch. The man screamed. Blood spattered the ground. The man fell to the ground, a large gash cut into his side. Tao flicked the blood from his sword. Another sucessful kill. He leapt into another tree and dashed onto the plains, staying low and moving fast. In half-an-hour, he had reached the home of the Plains Clan. He was the only person who lived there now. The Pack Clan had killed all the rest of his Clan-mates. He didn't mind much. Less people to irritate him. He looked over the camp site. He sat down in his meager shack of a home and went sraight to his futon so he could rest. Tomorrow, he could go shopping in the markets, after collecting his pay.

OOC: Sorry about that whole misunderstanding raiye ^_^

IC: Draagul picked up his best friends scent. Rion was following his. He laughed in his deep bass voice. Rion was one of the only people of the 5 clans, well 4 if you didn't count Tao. Draagul ran with the pideer meat on his back to meet up with his friend.

Draagul:RION! How have you been my friend?

Rion:]I have been good Draagul. How has your life been going?

Draagul:I've been surviving my friend. I have some pideer meat for the Elders. Oh, and tell me, what news have you heard?

Rion:Ah, the Elders will be grateful. My advisors are in council, I had to get away. That Seborl is annoying, just as he was to my father.

Draagul:That is understandable my friend, but it is now your duty. Let us go back to the your clan and talk over some of this fine pideer meat with the Elders.

Rion:My friend, you know my clan is your clan. You are like a brother to me no matter what anyone else says. But yes, let us walk home.

Draagul and Rion walked to the elders lodge. They greeted Draagul like a member. If he wanted, he could be in the clan. He chose not to be in the clan because it would cause conflict, especially with the Pack Clan and the remnant member of the Plains Clan. Finally being at peace and feeling at home, Draagul sat down with the Elders and Rion. He talked and ate, enjoying his time.

Ranhorn: Well if your not going to kill me, would you please remove your foot from my chest.

Nepenthe gave him a sharp look and reluctanly removed her foot from his chest. Ranhorn quickly hopped up an distanced himself from the others, not wanting to be caught off guard again.

Ranhorn: Well, this is an odd group indeed. A snake, and spider, and....

Ranhorn looked puzzling at Paige, realizing he could not tell what she was.

Ranhorn: I am sorry, but I cannot quite tell what species you are.

Paige: Oh yes, that. Well, its an odd story. I am from five diffent clans. I have the blood of a Cheetah, a Red-tailed Hawk, a Panther, a Snake, and a Monkey running through my veins.

Ranhorn's eyes openned in shock. He shiftly fell to his knees, bowing to the girl.

Ranhorn: My lord.

Paige: What? What are you talking about.

Nepenthe: Yes, I too am quite confused. One minute your trying to kill her, and now you praise her?

Ranhorn rises to his feet to face the other 3.

Ranhorn: It has long been prophecied by our people that a man and a women, each with the spirts of five different creatures would one day bring peace to this world and restore the earth. You must be that woman.

Paige: Me!? No, I'm no savior. Hell, I can bearly provide for myself. How am I supposed to provide for an entire planet.

Silvia: I have to admitt, I'm a little scepticle aswell. I mean, you said a man and a woman. Where is the man.

Ranhorn: That, I do not know. But please, come to my village. I am sure you will be recieved with a great banquet.

Silvia: FOOD!? YOU HAVE FOOD!?

Ranhorn: Yes. We have had a good hunt today, save not getting my last prey, but it seems I have got something much better. So please, Ms.....

Paige: Paige, call me Paige.

Ranhorn: Please, Ms Paige, come to my village. We will provide a great feast for you.

Late after Rion and all the others had fell asleep, Draagul packed some food and left. Even though he regretted leaving without saying goodbye, he had to. He couldn't stay for long. He never could. He always brought trouble. Wanting to make way to the Pack Clans territory, he let the Cheetah blood in him take over. He ran through the night until he was on the outskirts. Exhausted, he got to a tent and passed out in front of it.

She smiled and melted back into the trees. She had no interest in following a five bonded human; there were other things to do.....like......fend for herself.

With flip and a back turn, she leapt through the trees, silent and calm.....watching Paige and Ranhorn and that.....girl who shot her through the shoulders. Half disinterested, half twisted, she followed quietly.

The trees bent and swayed for her passage, respecting of the women who walked through, blessed by Yatherine monks.....and touched by Loloth. A five clan girl......wouldn't matter to her. The spiders were left alone by the animals she bonded with. And those that bothered with them were bitten. Then perished slowly and painfully.

Nepenthe: Take me to your master. Ranhorn.

He looked up. She was invisible but he replied.

Nepenthe: Loloth knows.....and it would behove you to do as I say.

Paige felt uneasy around the other three people. Now one of them thought that she was going to save this world or something. She couldn't take the pressure so she walked a little bit behind Ranhorn. Paige turned to look at Nepenthe. She seemed to not really want to follow though something kept her with them. Paige felt something strange about Nepenthe but she couldn't really put her finger on it.
Paige shrugged and looked ahead. She could see the camp far ahead of her though she knew that it was still very far away. When she bonded with the red-tailed hawk it gave her the ability to see far and in not much light.

Paige: So how far is this village of yours?

Ranhorn: It's not that far. A mile or so.

Paige nodded. Something was still bugging her though.
Paige: Why do you think this other man and I are going to save the world?

Draagul awoke groggily. It was only about an hour later. He stood up but fell back to his knees. A giant Grizzleetah (cheetah an grizzly bonded) walked through the plains towards him. Draagul went to take out his sword but waited, not sure if the animal was going to attack. The animal caught his scent and snarled. Draagul unsheathed his sword and stood up. Most of his strength was gone but he would not die without a fight.

The animal charged and Draagul let out his battlecry, a deep bassonate Kai. Draagul ran towards the animal and slashed. The animal dodged his attack and swung his front paw at Draagul. It connected with his chest. Draagul and the Grizzleetah fought for a few more minutes, each gaining wounds, until Draagul had had enough and plunged his bastard sword into the animals chest cavity, causing it to die instantly. Draagul wiped off his blade on the slightly grassy ground.

He started to walk towards the camp but fell and did not get up. He finally decided to just sleep until he woke up. With that last thought, Draagul closed his eyes.

Silvia crossed her arms and thought for a moment to herself.

Hmmm, five bonded... Does that make her friend or foe? She's bonded to a snake too though. I guess she's ok then.

Silvia had fallen to the back of the group. From what little she could tell, Nepenthe seemed like the secretive type. She pondered about Nepenthe before deciding to speak. Still a bit emmbarassed about what had happend earlier she decided not to say anything related to it for now.

"So... How much longer do we have to walk?" Silvia asked. She had moved closer to them to catch and possibly be part of the conversation.

The sun was slowly being replaced with the dark of the night. Her vision was starting to change as it grew darker. Soon the most she could see of her "companion's" would be the heat radiating from their bodies as well as a thin outline. They're footsteps were already begining to glow with warmth. Tasting the air Silvia figured they were close. There were trace's of burning wood in the air.

"Not much longer." Replied Ranhorn. The camp came into view as they approched the watchers. Ranhorn, indicating that they were friends passed them by without worry. Silvia disliked the suspicious glaces that were thrown they're way.

They procceded into the camp.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
OOC: Just thought I should tell you in case you didn't know snake's (as far as I know) only see heat and movement. I've just bent it so in the day (or just light) she see's normal and generally in the dark she see's like a snake.
Nepenthe placed a warning hand on Silvia's shoulders. She brought her lips close to Silvia's ear and whispered.
Nepenthe: Ignore it.
Silvia: Why? Doesn't it bother you?
Nepenthe: They fear me. A spider has nothing to be afraid of in the reaches of the night......all flee before it's bite. But not everyone is wise enough to notice. You represent to them cunning and pain.
Silvia: .....damnit.
Nepenthe: ...yeah. Be above it. They'll revere Paige.
Her words soon proved to be corret. Hundreds of people flocked around Ranhorn and Paige, desperate to see their would be savior.
Ranhorn led the group through camp. His kin flocked around him, asking who these strangers where, and why they had come. Ranhorn simply shurugged them of as they passed through the group. He led them to a large hut in the center of the village. Ranhorn pulled back the drap doorway at the front, reveiling a gloomy interier lit with only a few lanterns. He motioned for the other to enter as he held open the door. The group proceded and he followed behind. The interior was decorated with wall painting, beutiful tapestries, and a number of ceremonial weapons hung on the wall. In the back of the hut hung a decorated doorway covered by a tapestry doorway
Paige: What is this place?
Ranhorn: The cheif's hut. He will want to meet you.
Nepenthe: I am just glad to be out of the sun. I much prefer the shade to open daylight.
Ranhorn looked back at Nepenthe and Silvia.
Ranhorn: You two will have to wait here. The cheif will want to meet her Grance alone.
Paige: Please, its Paige.
Ranhorn: Ofcource, my apologese.
Ranhorn led Paige to the back door way and held the tapestry cover open. Paige walked through, but Ranhorn did not follow.
Paige: Aren't you coming?
Ranhorn: As I said. He will want to meet you alone.
With that Ranhorn let the tapestry fall, again covering the doorway. Paige was left alone in the dark room. Fear began to overtake her. The feared it was a trap. However, as soon as she reached for the doorway, a lower and soothing voice came from the back of the room.
He grimaced and pushed her away.
Ranhorn: They won't be hurt. You though....might be an exception.
She smiled happily and undid her tunic, revealing a long spider tattoo across her chest. The legs glowed blue and she winked.
Rali hunkered down beside the trail, watching all who passed. A strange group, this latest one. His shadowy visage darkened even more, and he rose silently, gracefully.
He followed along, pushing through the flock that surrounded them. One of them disappeared inside. An altercation occured between the arachnid girl, and one of the males. Rali stepped forward, laying a hand on each of their shoulders. Both turned, startled. The spider girl hissed at him.
He smiled, and clicked his teeth back. Though he did drop his hands.
Rali: Ravens eat spiders my dear. Now, I would recommend leaving any hostilities lie. Or at least, take them else where.
Ranhorn: And who are you, to tell me what to do in this place?
Rali: The person that is currently holding a knife to your kidney.
Ranhorn swore, and looked down. Nepenthe laughed coldly. Rali smiled enigmatically. Nepenthe looked down. An identical knife, an ataghan, stood at her side as well. Vicious curved blades, suitable for both slashing and stabbing. The dagger equivalent of a scimitar really.
Rali: I live here for the moment. Tear it up after I'm gone.
Nepenthe: Don't bother with my side. It's not worth getting your daggars dirty on.
Rali: And why's that?
Nepenthe: My blood shatters the soul. Corrodes the metal, defys the master.
Rali: You think you can stand up to a raven?
Nepenthe: Do you think you can explain yourself to Loloth?
She winked, then slunk away and stood next to a rather beumused Silvia. She grinned at Silvia's lost expression. Not everyone understood the nature of the Yatherines.
OOC: It's quite O.K. Draagul sometimes misunderstandings come up.
**************************************************
Rion awoke the next morning and knew instantly that Draagul had left, but he didn't go after him. Instead he decided that he would listen to the council's three ideas and their opinions, he seemed up to it now. Seeing his best freind had lifted his spirit. And he was happier and in a better mood than he had been in a long time. So in his great mood, he listened patiently through every opinion and idea. (Which took at the least four hours) When it was all through the council, listened to which one he picked, and why he had picked that particular idea. Then he walked outside, and gasped in the air and basked in the sunlight, laying on the dirt ground, letting it warm him. Soon he was rolling in the dirt, letting it catch in his fur, he knew this was child-like behavior and that he had quite outgrown it, but it always made him feel good. Children walked by looking at him, obviously puzzled he got on all fours and shook his whole body, shrouding them in a giant dust cloud. Chuckleing amid their startled screams he got up and stalked away. When he heard a voice he didn't want to hear,
"What are you doing? You should not act that way, Rion. Now you shall have to brush your fur again."
It was Seborl's high pitched voice right behind him. His shoulders slumped, Who did he think he was anyways? His mother? But he turned around and started following Seborl, then seeing the kids surpress their smiles, trying not to laugh as their chief was being scolded, Rion changed his mind. A mischevious grin broke out on his face as he walked past them, watching Seborl walk ahead, he turned and walked towards them beckoning them to follow, they did a little scared. Once out of sight, he turned towards them and smiled, then laughing his thunderous laugh said,
"Who wants to play a game?"
They all answered, and so later on, Seborl found him in a pinetree with three other kids throwing pincones at clan members, who passed by.
Chief: Welcome, Paige.
She looked at the chief and scowled.
Paige: How do you know my name?
Chief: It has long been prophecied that a man and a women with five animals bonded with them would come to this camp. I have been waiting a long time.
Paige: But did this prophecy say anything about my name?
Chief: No but I know many things that you cannot begin to understand.
Paige: Why have you summoned me then?
Chief: I have something to tell you. You have to meet up with this other man with the five bonded animals. Though you are not going to be doing it alone. Take with you the ones that have led you here. They well be of great sevice.
Cheif: Speak.
Nepenthe: They have looked upon you and your clan. And through investigation, it is found that you have been hunting on Yatherine lands. What do you have to say in your defense?
Cheif: What if we have? Who are you to stop me?
Nepenthe: If you have, the punishment will be worked out via a convoy. And I am Nepenthe Lifé Sevenstar of the Deathless Dragon. It would be wise to obey.
Cheif: And you have the power to stand up to me. I find that hard to believe.
Nepenthe: You name the time and place. And we'll settle it.
