sandramaxwell06
After playing FFX, I was hooked onto the series. I've gone out of my way to find all the games. Yet I have heard rumors that the original Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2 are being re-released, on the PS2, as a pack called "Final Fantasy Origins". There has been a lot of debate on this, but no one is sure. Has SquareSoft made an announcement? Are they going to release the games? If they are, when are they be released? DeathKnight
Final Fantasy Origins is the name of the FF1 and FF2 re-release. Its on Gamespot, if you want more news or whatever. Haha.
Flash
I heard it was being released on the PSX... Hm. I do know that FF1 was rereleased on the Wonderswan Colour. But seeing as the WSC is just a handheld console, there were only a few graphical improvements. Then again--Portable Final Fantasy? Yes please. I hope that they don't change much about FF1 when they make it for the PS2, apart from Graphics and Sound, stuff like that. I mean, the gameplay and length were great, especially for a NES game. GinnyLyn
FFChronicles has ChronoTrigger and FF4. Anthology had USA 3 and 5, if memory serves. And Origins will have 1 and 2. Huh.
Sniglefager
I thought this was in a different thread(maybe not)but I know I heard this somewhere. At first Square probably wasn't going to release it here. It has been confirmed that it will be released here, though. I'll try and find the full story, and I'll edit this post when I find it
Desbreko
Like Ken said, just go look on GameSpot (http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/0,11114,561981,00.html), they have info on it there. Or, if you're too lazy to go look for yourself, here's the latest news from Square:
From GameSpot.com Square has released additional information regarding the upcoming North American release of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II for the PlayStation. Both games will be included on a single disc under the name of Final Fantasy Origins, and, as expected, they'll both benefit from a number of changes. Audio and visual improvements have been made to both titles, and CG introductions have also been added. In addition, the Origins disc will feature a photo gallery with images that can be unlocked as players progress through the games, a new bestiary option that will give players detailed information on the various creatures in the games, and new gameplay modes that make Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II more accessible to newcomers. Final Fantasy Origins is scheduled for release in April.
And yes, there was another thread on this subject, but it's long dead.
Semjaza
Yeah, and even when I posted it no one seemed quite as interested as I hoped heh. All I'm hoping for are decent load times... Otherwise I'm not going to bother. That ruined the other PSX ports in my opinion.
Guest Musahi
I made a thread on FF : Origins and than I found this. :grumble: Well, here you go. I was at GA today and look what I found! Pretty much everyone already knew that they were doing this, but I still felt the need to post it. This is Final Fantasy 1 and 2 with upgraded graphics, and I must say they look great. ^ ^ The word is it's coming out around April 8th and will cost around $29.99. I don't know about UK or other releases though. Anyway, here are some screens from Gamespot. Enjoy. Here is the box art. Magnum Apex
So, the only Final Fantasy we'd be missing is Final Fantasy III? I have an urge to own them all and play them in order, from I to X. I started getting into the series thanks to Final Fantasy VII, and have been a faithful fan ever since.
GinnyLyn
Wow, those ARE good graphics--better than the originals. *is immediately pummeled to death by Pixel Puritans* :blackeye: Ow. Let's face it--in today's graphic day and age, these new graphics are the only way the game can sell. Mmmm, I might have to get me Origins (and then see if I can find Anthology anywhere...:grumble:.). Without spoiling them, are the storylines good--does anyone know?
Mitch
I'm still trying to find Chronicles, so I can play Chrono Trigger again. -_= Oh well. This looks promising as well.
Semjaza
The games are ports of the Wonderswan Color remakes of FF 1 and 2. The remake of FF3 was never brought out, from what I understand... Which would explain why it's not in this collection I suppose. The music is all redone from the Wonderswan versions though, and is composed slightly different. Where were all of you for the old thread? lol I had screens and stuff going before Gamespot even mentioned the game haha.

I dunno, I don't really come to this forum all that often. :Emphatic Shrug: But, I am honored to know that my very great own person such as TONIHOLIOKARAKA...has made such a thread. And I'm also glad Square is releasing more remakes, me like, me like. ^_^
Gelgoog Pilot
Those graphics are pretty nice, i'll probably get'em then my collection will be complete...:devil:MHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!! Oh DAmn i for got about anthology, it's nearly impossible to find these days. hey btw why are the names vivi and cloud in that pic?
Break
Originally posted by Gelgoog Pilot hey btw why are the names vivi and cloud in that pic?
I think it's because you can change names on the remakes. I can't wait 'till Origins comes out, I have the FFVI remake, but not Anthologies. Must get my hands on that soon. But yeah, Origins is looking cool, I never have played either FFI or FFII, so it's something completely new to me (and some others I suspect).
Semjaza
Well I guess we can all be happy that it only costs 30 bucks. Yay. I've still heard nothing on the load times. I'll be putting off on buying these til then.
Guest Zeh
Cloud and Vivi's name's are there because there are no default names, you have to come up with your own, or atleast in FFI you had too... I've known about FFO for awhile now, but I thought it was just a rumor until GameSpot verified it, they haven't steered me wrong yet ^_^ I absolutely can't wait for it to come out, i doubt loading times will affect it at all, atleast for me, because in all the other games, I didn't notice it until others mentioned it, and it still didn't bother me.
Semjaza
The loading times probably won't be quite as annoying to people who haven't played through the original SNES carts years ago. I couldn't play FF5 or FF6 on PSX because of them. In FF6, there'd be loading after you hit a monster while it loaded the hit effect. It was pathetic, especailly considering most of the game could fit into the PSX's RAM. If FFO is like that, I will not buy it.
Guest Zeh
Then again, FFI and FFII are more than likely smaller then FFVI, and by now, they should be able to do anything with games. Which i hope means better loading time, although it still wouldn't bother me... maybe i got a different copy of FFVI? Who knows? I never saw a bit of lag or anything. I'm better than you all! Meh...
Mitch
Also, if they make it for PS2, and the use a DVD-ROM, it would also make the loading times faster, as well. But I doubt that'll happen. It'll most likely be for PS.
GinnyLyn
It's going to be PS. The box art, for one--that's a typical PS box, not a PS2 one. And the graphics--Sony could not get away with graphics like that on PS2--they'd be slaughtered. ^^; Just my thoughts.
Semjaza
There are actually games that look worse than that on PS2, if you can believe that lol. If anyone even wants to bother bringing them to the US, SCEA stops them as they would rather PS2 was looked at as the ultimate machine. The same thing happened in the PSX days. Anyway, this is a PSX game for all the reasons Ginny named. The game is Square and EA's though, so I don't know why it would even affect Sony's image lol.I'm quite glad that they are putting them on one disc as well. I believe the Japanese versions were sold seperately, or together in a set with some extra stuff... Which wasn't very cheap lol.

Probably, but I don't care about graphics. They sure as hell aren't what make a game a game for me. Sure they're nice, good-looking, add something more to a game. But when you get down to it, graphics really mean nothing but a limit to imagination. I most likely thought it was for PSX, so, bleh...it would be really cool if they did release all of the packages into one PS2 game, that would sell like crazy. But then again, I'm only a teen-ager...why should they listen to me......?
GinnyLyn
Now THAT is an idea--to put all the original FF games (1-6) on one PS2 disk. I would definitely buy that, heh. Do you think it would be possible?
Semjaza
It's definately possible. They could fit 1 to 6 on a normal CD-ROM if they wanted to... They wouldn't even need a DVD. The question is will they? Probably, but I doubt it will happen for a rather long time. Square can make more money putting a few out at a time more than likely, and I'm sure they'd rather make money off of that before they make a full compilation. I'd also bet they'll be putting 3 to 6 on GBA as well, which would stop them from making a PS2 version. Anyway, I found this boxart at EBgames.com. I really hope they use this instead. The image up top is a render of one of the evil characters in FF1, named Garland, from what I've seen. This art is by Yoshitaka Amano, who I think everyone here should know. He does the character design for most of the FF games, as well as for Vampire Hunter D.
