eleanor
I heard on the radio that a leader of North Korea said something along the lines of, "We'll be ready to attack any U.S. military base anytime anywhere." Or something like that. My mom asked me what I thought about it, and me being the stupid seventh grader that I am, answered that North Korea was the stupidest country to ever be created. My mom then told me a story of a mouse that was trapped in a room. A cat was let in, and started to chase the mouse around, trying to eat it. When the mouse was stuck in a corner and had nowhere to run, what do you think it did? Anyways, it just made me think of a lot of people like Hitler and stuff. Kent
Wow, the cat and mouse... Thats quite the analogy. I dont really know what to say about Kim Jong Il's comments. Personally, I think its the typical rhetoric. But hey, there are alot of people out there that wanna go to war with korea instead of iraq, so maybe kim will get his chance to put his money where his mouth is. I gotta ask though, what about this makes you think of hitler?
eleanor
In the movie "The Sum of All Fears," a man says that Hitler was stupid. He shouldn't have fought both Russia and the U.S., for that was stupid. Instead, he should have made Russia and the U.S. fight each other, and then they would destroy each other. Corey
Indeed. Eh... I doubt anyone but the U.S. is going to be the first to strike. No one else wants to start it but Bush. They just want to be a player in the game, not the one that turns on the power. If we go to war with Iraq/N. Korea/Anyone Else That Wants To Fight Us we are going to drop into a depression. We'll be screwed for a while but will probably rise up again just like we have in the past.
James
North Korea will be pulled into line one way or the other. I doubt it'll start anything, but if sanctions are imposed, who knows. Anyway, I hope this thread remains on topic. We've had countless Iraq threads in the past and I think we've pretty much exhausted that subject (if we hadn't, it'd still be active now).
Harry
Why are people afraid of N. Korea? Grow a back bone.
Juu
Umm.. I really wouldn't go as far as 'worst country ever created... >< Basically, they're the same people as the South Koreans, just under different laws and leadership. I'm not sure why the U.S. should be worried about North Korea... I mean, don't we have the most nuclear missles in the world? Guest cloricus
So why are you worried about Iraq, if you have the weapons then. Reminding you that a nuclear weapon is worse than a biological one. (NK is meant to be making nc weapons btw.) *Thinks of bush and a heavily blurred photo of NK with a circle on it, ?And here we have a hidden weapons factory.? And someone replies, ?Looks more like a chocolate chip factory to me???* Noting that Iraq said that they wouldn't attack America (on the main land) if they went to war. Man talk about cat and mouse, I wouldn't want to be the cat if America was the mouse... (Though its a smart move by Iraq, because if they attack America. I don't think that the world would even try and hold them back. Can you say nuclear holocaust!) Lol any way. Personally I think NK is more of a threat. They are trying to escalate the situation and America is ignoring them and their getting annoyed. They want a war, that's the thing... I agree with Gokents, but I think they are just a bit more egar(sp?) this time? Lol but I'd like to see that, NK and US in a b**ch fight... My bets NK is flattened in just weeks... The Harlequin
I'd just like to point out that it really doesn't matter whether you've got say, 50 nuclear warheads, or 100. Either way, the person you're firing them at is screwed. America may have the most bombs in the world, but given a preemptive strike, what good is it going to do them?
vegeta rocker
Are you asking if we are invincible?(USA) Nobody is, with nuclear warfare no one ever is. And i agree with DarkOrderKnight, Bush is a hot head. Besides if there is a war, not saying there will be, there will be no time for reelections........ Sui Generis
I don't know, I'm not as confident as you guys are about the whole war. We thought we were going to sweep Vietnam, yet our casualties were un-believable. Same went with NK in the Korean war. We went in as the "American Badass" expecting to seep it yet we still got our butts handed to us. I think we need to be more cautiouse this time. NK could strike us, I have no doubt of that. Whether or not they will, that is up to debate. The question is, what do we have they want? And The Harlequin is right. What if they only have say...lets just give an example....eight bombs. But with these eight bombs they strike... 1) The White House 2) The Pentagon 3) Ney York 4) L.A 5) Miami 6) Virginia 7) Camp David 8) Wherever the senate and house of reps. meets. What if they took out our top leaders....and several hundreds of thousands if not millions of people in our most desnly populated cities. With 8 nukes they could...in theory put US out of business. James
Man, some of you guys don't watch any news, do you? o_O;; The entire reason that NK is taking this action now is because of the fact that the world's attention is diverted (Iraq). Thus, NK thinks it's time to start pushing the envelope and forcing the International community into a position where it starts to give more concessions (fuel, cash, food). It's highly unlikely that North Korea would ever attack the United States. Attacking and conquering is not the goal of North Korea. The goal of North Korea is for the regime to survive. What does survival mean? It means having food for your army and population, it means having fuel to keep your military and commercial sectors going and it means having the cash to build your own infrastructure and become more self-sufficient. North Korea wants the USA to sign a Non-Aggression Pact, which essentially is like a promise that the USA will never attack North Korea preemptively. This agreement is also unlikely to come about. The United States keeps the threat of force on the table in order to ensure that North Korea (and others, like Iraq) take the International community seriously. North Korea knows that it could never hope to win in a battle against the United States. And it knows that if it ever attacks South Korea, the price the regime pays will be the ultimate price; loss of power over the country. Let's not be too alarmist. 99.9% of what North Korea says is rubbish. They make grand statements in order to force diplomacy in their favor. They are not serious about attacking anyone and their intentions are very different from Iraq (where Iraq's intention is to be a conquering state, whilst North Korea's intention is simply to survive).
Heaven's Cloud
Okay, one more time for all of you understudies that have not been paying attention to the situation in North Korea for the past half century. Ever since the US's involvement in Korea ended, North Korea and the US have been engaged in a political pissing contest. Everytime the US gets inolved in a skirmish (for example Bosnia), North Korea makes idle threats in an attempt to gain concessions and recognition fom the international community. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. They have been relativly unsuccessful with China, however, they gained huge ground in concessions in trade with Taiwan during Desert Storm. North Korea's political regime is just desperatly and idly threatening the US in order to maintain their current government.
