Xra
Since James announced we could talk about games such as Kingdom Hearts and the Chrono series, I thought we could talk about this. Is Chrono Breaker(or chrono break as other people call it) really comming out? I liked Chrono Trigger and I loved Chrono Cross, so if it does come out, I'll be better than the rest....i hope. James
I believe that Square Enix has already confirmed the existence of Chrono Break quite a while ago. I believe that it is indeed in development for the PS2. We might see something on it at E3 this year.

Guest Zeh
Originally written at SquareSound.com Not much is known about the next incarnation in the "Chrono" series. Last I heard, the title will be "Chrono Break," but that obviously isn't set in stone. As the release nears and we start getting more information about the soundtrack, this page will be updated.

Originally written at rpgplanet.com Chrono Break is the latest and 4th game in the Chrono series. A lot of rumors are going around about this game ranging from it being for cell-phones to it not actually being a game. As of right now, all that's confirmed is that... it'll be called Chrono Break and considering Square's currant relations, it'll probably be on PS2. Anything you've heard more then that is a rumor, nothing more. We'll have more info when it becomes available.

Originally in a FAQ of Chrono Break By ToastyFrog 1. WHEN DOES CHRONO BREAK COME OUT? A: Dunno. 2. WHAT'S THE GAME ABOUT? A: Uncertain. 3. WHAT'S THE MAIN CHARACTER'S NAME? A: Sorry, no idea. 4. OK... WELL, THEN WHICH SYSTEM WILL IT BE ON? A: PlayStation 2, I guess, but I can't say for sure. 5. DO YOU AT LEAST KNOW WHO'S DIRECTING IT? A: Square hasn't said, but since Tetsuya Takahashi has moved along to Monolith to work on Xenosaga, it's probably not him. 6. SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? A: Aside from diminishing the chances of Chrono Cross degenerating into text-heavy, self-indulgent bilge at the 11th hour - somewhat, as Masato Kato could still be put in charge - not much, really. 7. SO IS THERE ANY REAL INFORMATION ABOUT CHRONO BREAK AT ALL? A: Well, Square registered the trademark "Chrono Break" a few months ago. And in Japan they may be spelling it "Chrono Brake." But beyond that, there's absolutely no concrete information regarding the game whatsoever. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch. In fact, aside from speculative guesswork there's no concrete proof that the next Chrono game will in fact be called "Chrono Break." For all we know "Chrono Break" was registered as a trademark for gummy fruit snacks or something. 8. SO, I SHOULD JUST, LIKE, BE PATIENT AND WAIT FOR FURTHER INFORMATION? A: Yes. 9. THIS GUIDE WAS A WASTE OF TIME, WASN'T IT? A: Yes. 10. OH WELL. UM... HEY. I LIKE YOUR SHIRT. A: Thanks!
Thats all the info, i could come up with. If Square actually does release another Chrono game, it would definately please a lot of the fans.
GinnyLyn
Waydaminute. How could "ChronoBreak" (if it indeed exists) possibly be considered the fourth in the series? I only know about Trigger and Cross. Mmmfff....it is just rumors after all. :grumble:
Desbreko
Wasn't there a sequal to Chrono Trigger on the SNES that was never released outside of Japan? That would explain it being the fourth game in the series.
Guest Zeh
Well, that's obviously a typo unless 'sko has his facts straight... -.- i dunno... i just looked up for any info... and thats all i found, copied and pasted, without being to repetitive. Semjaza
There is another game in the series. It's known as Radical Dreamers. It was a mostly text RPG available only in Japan over the Bandai Sattelite System.
GinnyLyn
You know, I heard something to that extent. The name Radical Dreamers is also familiar because it is, I believe, the name of Niki's band...right? But a text based game? *shivers* I never do well at those. Semjaza
That's the game. It was a sort of choose your own adventure thing. You played it on the Super Famicom (SNES), but you needed to connect via Satellaview to actually get it. Satellaview didn't take off as well as planned, and wound up ending before it probably should have. It was basically like Sega Channel in the US in it's design (you hooked up to a cable channel or something), except you got entirely new content. The two big games that actually made it were this (Radical Dreamers) and a remake of the first Zelda, which is now knowns as BS Zelda. It wasn't actually finished via Satellaview apparently (it was sent in pieces I guess), but someone managed to get a complete ROM together for it for emulation purposes. Mitch
I have yet to play Chrono Cross, but I have played Chrono Trigger. In fact, I recently bought Final Fantasy Chronicles just so I could own Chrono Trigger finally. I absolutely love Chrono Trigger, it is such a vivacious and just a pure gem of a game. I swear, I could write a million words about how great it is and still have more and even better things to say. There's just something about it. As for a possible new game, I wouldn't call these sequels, they don't really all tie in together. From what I've played of Cross (which was about fifteen minutes), Cross and Trigger have mostly nothing that parallels one another. But hell yes, I am excited to see Square go in to make a new addition to the Chrono series. But the first one will forever remain a gem to me, and I doubt that a better Chrono than that will ever come into existence.
GinnyLyn
Never, ever has the phrase "less is more" been true when all I can to you, Mitch, is a heartfelt, "Ditto." Chocolate, how I passionately love that game. It was my first, and any RPG game I have ever gotten since is always compared to it.

The games take place incredibly far apart from one another. Of course after 15 minutes you won't see any huge parallels story wise. In fact, you might not see any at all unless you do some digging and tying things together yourself. It's all there though. As for actual gameplay parallels, which is probably what you were referring to heh... The games are rather different, maybe surprisingly so... At the same time, I think they are rather simliar in many ways. I honestly prefer Chrono Cross' fighting system to Chrono Trigger's, despite the differences. When you get used to the magical fields and everything, it's a very well done system that adds to what CT originally had in the first place. It isn't really a replacement, as much as it's an evolution (FF does this same thing). The graphical style isn't really simliar either, considering Toriyama wasn't involved with this one... I honestly can't stand the faces of a lot of the characters in the game, especially Serge's. Some characters were great though. Harle rocks :D Chrono Trigger was far from my first RPG. I do like it very much, but at the same time I think it's incredibly overrated. I don't want sequels to be just like their originals, especially in RPGs... But that's me. If Chrono Break has a story to rival CT, i'd be more than glad. There's just something about CT and FF7... they're really good games... but i can't quite put my finger on why i like them so much. James
Yep, FFVII is one of my all time favourites games, period. As for the Chrono series...I did play a little of Chrono Trigger, though I never finished it (I didn't own it; it was a friend's game). However, I may purchase the rereleased version. Chrono Cross was similar, in the sense that I didn't own it. My friend owned it and I borrowed it. I got as far as that foresty/swampy area and then I had to give it back. But I adored it; it was so much fun and it had such a strong sense of imagination. The characters were mostly pretty well fleshed out and the text translation was extremely well done. Chrono Break for the PS2 (or whatever it ends up being called; but I'm sure it'll be a PS2 game -- I think most people are), will probably end up being a very highly anticipated RPG for many. Any suggestion of a new Chrono game is, of course, something that arouses great excitement.
Flash
Originally posted by James arouses great excitement
Hahahaha!! How immature-giggle-inducing I find that phrase! I remember the first time I played Chrono Trigger... It was memorable. The game was everything I liked about RPGs rolled into one... A complex battle system, a deep story line, and time travel! ^_^ I've never played Chrono Cross (I dunno if it was even released in New Zealand), but I'll certainly be looking foward to Chrono Break. GinnyLyn
The only thing I really missed in Cross was the lack of character development. At the time it came out, the world was still caught up in Pokémon and the like, and the more characters you had to find/"raise", the better the game was. That was the trend, anyway. As a result, Double/Triple Techs were few and far between. Which is a shame, for that was one of my favorite parts of Trigger. *loves Antipode 3* Cross tells a smidgen of a continuation story to Trigger. Not much, though, and several of the main characters got left out. Though one of the minor storylines in Trigger was resolved in a MAJOR way in Cross. And that is all I will say of it. :X ~EDIT~ Got a new tidbit of info on ChronoBreak: it is supposed to be released April 1, 2003. Released where, I didn't gather, but there's this. Rumors are ranging anywhere from
Crono and Marle's son
running around to
Magus
being a major character in this sequel. Nothing is confirmed at all, naturally.
