Watching a death...

I just saw the most disturbing thing Ive seen in the last couple of hours.(thats pretty bad with all the news I watch)

It was a video from the gas station where one of the "sniper" victims was shot.

It showed a man pumping his gas... the victim and this man were both in the video footage...

The victim was shot and the man a few feet away looked over, watched the man fall from the gun shot wound, and then looked away, finished pumping his gas, and then drove away.

The police didnt recieve a call until half an hour after the shooting occured.

I can say that seeing this footage made me disgusted.

I sure hope that if I'm ever shot I will get help from the people around me.

Maybe I just hope for the better side of man to come out, but after seeing this, I dont know if I will ever see it.

Actually your right, and I think that is all the more reason to lose faith in the average D.C. citizen.

I guess those people are in a hurry all the time or something.

No, they are just scumbags that dont care about there fellow man the way people on the otaku would.

: 'Hm..filling my car...hope I'm not late for work..lalala...gosh, that man's chest/head has exploded...hmm..now there's blood on my shoes. I know, I'll go inside, buy some wet wipes and clean my shoes. Yes, then I'll help that poor man..wait, no, too much time wasted, I know, I'll call 911...no. Still too much time. Lets just buy the wet wipes and drive to work..'

*coughs*

*walks away whistling*

~~

Just imagine being in that man's shoes right now. He'd be mobbed by every man and his dog as soon as he put a toe outside of his house.

Guys, there was a sniper.
Always think DRABC.
D=Danger. Basically if there is a high chance that you will be killed you do _not_ attempt to save the person. (Though if it's your best friend that normally goes out the window.)
But in normal circumstances some random person is not worth risking your life.
Now in my mind a long-range sharp shooter comes into that big time.

My reaction would have been to get out of the area before they reloaded.
Though I haven't seen this footage I get the feeling that this person would have been a bit shocked, though I can't comment too much on that. What happened if he was on the way to the funeral of his whole family, he wouldn't have cared. So don't judge people when you don't know the situation. But if he did just ignore it and he wasn?t in shock or any thing that was pretty pitiful?

Also what is this thread about, this video or is it about disturbing footage we have seen?

Me: I see a guy fall to the ground, now on is near, and I know he got shot by some type of gun, most likely long range. What do I do? I run like hell. I wouldn't care if people would think of me as a heartless bastard. First thing that would come to my mind would be "I could be next."

Yep, that is what I would do. Think of me as a heartless bastard or whatever for all I care, but that is what I would do.

Jenni, lay off the swearing a bit please. It's becoming a habit. lol

Anyway, as for the topic at hand...I think my initial response would be to hide and wait for a moment, to see if the sniper shoots again. But after that, I'd have to help.

Although, it depends. If the guy was dead (and if it were totally obvious that he'd died straight away), then what's the point in helping him? If he's dead there's nothing you can do.

But if he's still alive and it's obvious...well, that's different. You should of course help in that situation.

Well, actually L.A. Rod, I believe that your thinking of the law that makes it illegal to sue someone if they try to help you when you are the victim of a crime... like doing cpr and then the victim not living, the family cant sue that "good samaritan."

I also want to mention that I dont really think too highly of those of you that would take the same course of action as these cowards.

I dont ask that you get down, and perform some sort of medical procedure to save this mans life... I merely ask that people would atleast call the police after seeing it.

I mean, there were people at the gas station, not just one guy, so atleast one of them could have called the police.

According to the news and the police, no one called the cops for a half hour.

A half hour, hell, you could run for your life until you were completly out of breath and it still wouldnt take you a half hour before you felt safe.

If your in shape you can run maybe more than 4 miles in half hour. I think that would put you out of harms way by a long shot.

And for tn, Foxnews got their hands on the footage from the gas station... I couldnt tell you how.

My reaction would be drop to my chest. The closer I am to the ground, the harder I am to see, the harder I am to shoot. Thats my whole thinking behind it.

But how could you NOT help the man? He's a fellow human, and if the sniper was going to shoot again if you got in your car, and you were his target, you'd still be dead. So I don't think running would help.

Also you actually could be able to tell where the bullet came from if you were watching the guy when he fell. Which direction did he fall. Thats almost a dead give away.

If I had a cell phone I would immediatly dial 911 I can't believe people didn't....Its not hard to hit 3 numbers on a cell phone, possibly 4 if you have to turn the thing on.

Just a theory here, but all of you who said you would "stop and help the man." I can't help it, but I really don't think you would stop and physically help the man, because that is what I am getting from you, to help him physically.

You say right now that you would help the man, because you haven't been in this situation before. How do you know you would act the way that you all say you would? Well that is just me, I personally don't believe any of you would help the man/woman physically if they were shot. Getting in the car and running, but also dialing 911, I can understand, but stopping and helping physically? Nah, I don't think you would, since you haven't been faced with this situation.

 Bye now.

Truly noone knows what they would do, and that is a very valid point. I'm not going to even attempt your name, sorry. But that also goes against your argument. We don't know what we would do.

Some of us may have a spark of courage and run over to the man, no doubt maybe saving them. Some of us on here who think we'd stay may very well run. We've never been faced with the situation that seriouse, so we don't know.

So what you said is valid, and I agree to you to some respect. What I posted in my first post was just idealy.

I mean you never know, you the one who said he'd run, may become a doctor and see this happen. Without thinking about it you may immediatly try to help him feeling an obligation because of your practice.

What the future holds for us is a mystery, and untill we reach it we have no clue how anything will go! :)

But yet, my argument would also most like be the true way for some. First thing that comes to most peoples mind(well to mine I know) is run. What do you do in a scary situation? Lots run without thinking, they just pick up and run. But yes, no on knows what they would actually do.

Where did you see the video? I don't see it on foxnews.com, so is it possible the guy didn't know? The way you described it was that he stayed after a while to finish up filling the tank, now if someone I saw was shot, I would not wait to fill it up.

See I'm the opposite. When I'm afraid or backed into a corner I fight back. I hate being backed into corners so I fight back.

But I may very well have ran, I don't know.

And yes alot of people would instinctively run. Its nothing against them, its their instincts.
