Cora Jane 2
I don't know how many of you are much into your literature classes at school, but I was wondering, What of Shakespeare's writings have you read? be it in school or just for the heck of it? I have been reading a lot lately, and am wondering what you consider his best(s) works.... personally I like the plays... but yeah.... so what do you all think? ChibiV
I liked his plays and sonnets. I mostly like "McBeth" :D
Guest Anakin Solo
I read that Romeo and Juliet one last year in English 9. 85 minutes of that crap. 0_o And this year I am reading Merchant of Venice. Boring they both are. Romeo and Juliet.....bleggh hated it, will never pick it up again. Merchant of Venice....bad as well...but they part we are at now is pretty funny..only funny part that I have found in the whole book....and the book is supposed to be a comedy as well....:/
ChibiV
I haven't read Marchant of Venice yet. I read Romeo and Juliet in my freshman year in high school. I don't like it either. I like "McBeth" and Hamlet more.
Chaos
Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and a little bit of McBeth. Personally, I like Hamlet the best. I love how he pretends to be mad to fool his parents, but ends up driving..the maid mad. I forget her name. Sucks though. Everybody died in that story. Normally, I'd like that, but what really sucks is that the king ended up killing his wife. Bastard.
Sere Tuscumbia
Ugh. Shakespeare. He drives me insane. We're reading him in English (and what am I reading you ask? Well, duh. Romeo and Juliet. What else would I be forced to read?) and, to my dismay, the play would be slightly better if anyone knew how to act. It's all blah, blah, blah in some bored, monotone voice, and barely anyone knows how to pronounce half of the words. What a wonderful way to pass the 55 minutes of English class, eh? And plus, I just don't like Romeo and Juliet. (In my opinion) it stinks, and that's all there is to it. However, once I may get my hands on some of Shakespeare's other writings, my opinion might change. I wanna read Hamlet sometime in the future . . . However, of all the Shakespeare I've either heard of, read, or seen, AMSND is my favorite. Ah, Shakespeare at his best. ^_^ --Sere
Semjaza
I've read most of his stuff. I have this really nice first edition of a book dedicated to Shakespeare (It's done by Stanford or something). It has all of his writings in it, along with tons of critiques and other information. The thing was printed in like 1933, but all the thoughts in it still stand up today. My favorite is Midsummer Night's Dream. I got to see that, Antony and Cleopatra and some other one at the Shakespeare Theater here in Chicago. Midsummer Night's Dream was the best of them as they did a lot of really cool things with the character designs.
ChibiV
I read Midsummer Night's Dream, and like it too. The tempest is good too. Just one question, is King Lear one of Shakespeare's play or not? I don't remember the author of that play.
Cora Jane 2
Well, Macbeth, I must say I enjoyed thoroughly. I liked it because of the symbolisms... lol... ah well.. but Hamlet was also good... and I am gonna throw this out there... you can compare Hamlet to the Lion King put out by Disney. It is really weird, and I did a paper on that for extra credit. Currently I am reading Sonnets at school, and Othello for the heck of it... lol... yes I read Shakespeare... haha... but still it is enjoyable. The works of Shakespeare I have read&/seen include... The Taming of the Shrew Romeo and Juliet A Midsummer Night's Dream King John The Merchant of Venice Henry IV Part 1 Much Ado About Nothing Julius Caesar Hamlet The Merry Wives of Windsor Othello King Lear Macbeth Antony and Cleopatra and some of the Sonnets As you can tell I love Shakespeare, and for some odd reason, I seem to read that more than the other novels I have to read, but still I love Poetry... ^_^

Rhys Mayiessen
In grade nine we read Twelfth(sp? ahhhh I don't know how to spell) Night. I thought it was really weird with that love triangle and a girl liking a girl even though she didn't know the other was a girl. Just this year I read Macbeth which was better than Twelfth Night but it was a little weird too with the witches and all. I can't say I really like Shakespeare but that might only be because it is written in play form.
Red
I've read only a handful of Shakespeare's work, but my favourite is Romeo & Juliet. It's a play that can fit into any time period and still work, so it's easy to think of it that way.
Chaos
Ah, Much Ado About Nothing. How could have I forgotten about that? Well, as I've only seen the movie, I guess that doesn't count. But oh well.

Evil Pancakes
Shakespeare is amazing, and one of my writing idols. I own his complete plays and many of his other works, and have read most of them. Most of the people who don't like Shakespeare simply have trouble understanding his language, and therefore cannot interpret the comedy and meaning in his writing, something that can be worked on and improved (understanding it, not the writing). Personally, I like A Midsummer Night's Dream and As You Like It

Devidramon
Notice how the tragedies' titles are usually someone's name but the comedies aren't? Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, 75% of the cast is dead by the end. The lighter plays? A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, etc. My favorite's Hamlet, anyway. liamc2
Letsee, we did Romeo and Juliet at the beginning of last year, which was highly amusing, and would have been better if at the time I hadn't hated performing with a passion. Julius Caesar at the end of the year, however, really turned me around. I loved it, the passion behind Brutus' speech was amazing, the delicacy that needs to be taken when speaking proved how powerful his words were. I still have a vague idea of my lines buzzing around in my head... '...we shall carve him as a dish fit for the Gods! ...not hew him as a carcass fit for hounds!' I loved my lines and it really boosted my confidence in oral speaking, I even got a good mark and I actually look forward to my orals, Shakespeare really opened my eyes to my passion for speaking... XxmagentaxX
I'm reading Hamlet right now.... I think it's one of my favorites so far... Kinda sad how Ophelia dies... and then everyone just follows her... But the thing is did Hamlet really love her? He said he did, but he never really acted like it. I mean he told her to join a convent...
