Sui Generis
(This is kinda ironic considering Harry's post.) Well I had just got done throwing the ball (baseball) around with some friends and was in the car talking to my mom. We stopped at a stop light, and I didn't take a second thought about it. I was just set on one thing, getting home and taking a shower. Ok well obviously I stunk, I'd been sweating for over a half an hour. We talked about everything in general. Then there was a loud noise. Its hard to describe it was a mixture of breaking glass, a baseball bat hitting as car, and screeching brakes. To find out what the hell was going on I looked in my rear view mirror, just in time to see the car that started the whole mess fly over and roll next to our car. I don't remember much of what was happened. Although I remember saying something in the course of these events, before the chain reaction reached us. "Uh.....mom...." Blinking I couldn't believe my eyes, but it wasn't over. That black van had been five cars away. The noise kept repeating and I watched, helplessly as the cars continued to ram into one another. I looked at the space between our van and the car behind us and grimaced. From the time that car got hit, we'd probably be hit in no time flat. I held onto the handle that was on the passenger door and braced for impact. I watched as the chain-reaction came closer and closer. That impact that I braced for never happened. I blinked in amazement as the car behind us missed us by centimeters. Luckily her tires weren't straight, the impact sent her sliding into the other lane. My mom panicking jumped out of the car immediatly rushing to the back of the pack, the first car to be hit, and see if anyone was fine. I sat there for a moment, waiting for my mind to register the events that just had happened. I watched in bewilderment as the guy in the flipped van got out without a scratch. There was glass everywhere, his front was completely totalled. I opened my door slowly and got out. Our door missed his car by about a foot. I couldn't believe it. We were lucky. One car missing us by around feet to our right and another missing us by maybe an inch to our left. I looked around, there were tires, gasoline, and pieces of cars everywhere. Everyone involved was hysterically. I watched the scene bewilered. Everyone was running around frantically, paying no attention to the guy that started this whole thing. I watched him walk around for a while in a daze, then walked over to him slowly. I had the sinking suspicion that he was drunk but it didn't matter. I waited untill we locked eyes and I asked him if he was ok. He didn't say anything, but nodded slowly. I smiled at him, and let him go back to roaming aimlessly with his thoughts. I just got home from this accident, and I've been thinking about it ever since it happened. Its amazing. How something could be taken away so quickly. I could've been in one of the other cars, looking out my window, without a care, and then being crunched between two cars. There weren't any really seriouse injuries, there was blood on a couple windshields which was just eerie. I never got to see all that happened, but I saw enough. Cops and paramedics swarmed the place within 10 minutes of the wreck. I'm not sure why I posted this, just wondering if anyone else has expierenced something like this. Has anyone else been so lucky? Or has anyone ever just witnessed an accident. They happen so suddenly. Its amazing. (OH and Harry. I know we haven't exactly got a long, but if your thread was seriouse, my condolenses! I'm truly sorry..)
conpiracymonki
Wow. I don't think I've ever seen anything as bad as that. One time, when we used to live in London back when I was small though, we were on the motorway. And this drunk motorcyclist was speeding down the wrong direction, and he crashed into the front of our car. Our front windscreen shattered in place, and we heard this thud. And when I turned back, about 15 feet behind our car was a dead guy lying face down, with blood dripping out of his helmet. Seriously, people. Don't drink and drive. You people are real lucky, not getting hurt or anything..

Well...there was a time this old lady was preparing to turn at an intersection, and in the middle of her turn, some guy came speeding, trying to beat her I suppose. But he ended up running into her, his car going out of control, hitting a street lamp, and causing it to fall on top of his car. No injuries though. Poor old lady. :(
Sui Generis
I agree with Mith. I mean seeing someone die, ecspecially at a young age can be very truamatizing. So I agree with Mith. Although its scary to think, things can happen so fast, and you have no control over them.
conpiracymonki
I dunno. I guess it wasn't that scary, because I really didn't know what was going on at the time. But I'll tell you now, to me, cars flipping about all over the place would've made me wet my pants easily. But yeah. If something like what happened back then happened now, I would really freak out. >.>
Shaun
I had a friend once. We were quite close up until I went to high school. Then he got into drugs and stuff really bad. I saw him on the bus one morning and talked to him a bit. It was nice to catch up. Then a while later, he committed suicide. That's rough.
DeathKnight
When I was younger, my mother was a stoplight, and this young woman walked across the crosswalk slowly a short distance across the road. It wasnt anything unusual really, but this speeding drunk driver slammed right through her, sending her flying. It was horrible to see that, eeee. Poor lady.; Sorry to hear that Bryan. God knows we'll all be in/see at least one car wreck happen before our eyes in our lifes. Glad you're alright, bro.
Justin
I was driving down the road to go apply for a job and the knob on the truck's gearshift decide to remove itself from it's position on the gearshift as I was shifting gears. Needless to say, that nearly had some draw-backs. You have to be really careful when you're out driving. There's never been an automobile made that couldn't kill a human. -Justin
Frankie
Oy... now.. thats somehting you never told me shaun HOW COME YOU LEAVE OUT DETAILS LIKE THAT anyways ok... your gonna love this...its small and MWAHAAH not to importatn either I was in this small tiny tiny car.. .and we were gehind this huge truck with a trialer hitch For some reson (wonder why *end sarcasm*) he did nto see us and slammed into reverse... the trailer hitc was even with my head and unfortuantly my asthmatic mom kind of did that "OH MY GOD" thing and did not react... i wanted to slap her and geto ur car into reverse.. but i know her.. she would have flipped it i moved an inch the guy kept backing up and by now the hitch was scraping our hood.. and in a matter of seconds it was crashing through the windshield and now i had no where to go... i was in 4th grade when this happened so bare in midn id prolly be to in shock to do anything anyways.. so now he finaly stops because.. he felt somethign wierd.. he gets out and sees and he flips out and goes "oh my******* god" me im just crossedly stareing at the ball of the trailer hitch.. by then i stoped breathing. . . i couldent move... so fun... to think if he kept going backwards id most likely have a hold in my head and id be in the ground *sigh*
Juu
Yikes. ><; I'm real sorry that had to happen, Bryan, and I'm really glad you're okay. The worst I've ever seen, was on one of the highways on our way to San Antonio last-last year. One car, had fallen into a ditch, avoiding one car. The next truck stopped violently, and it fell in on top of the other car. After that, another car stopped, and flipped backwards onto the second car. There were airplanes and helicopters arriving too. ><; I actually saw one of the people getting carried out. God, that was so scary. ><
PiroMunkie
Originally posted by Lalaith Ril I held onto the handle that was on the passenger door and braced for impact.
Just for future reference, one of the last things you want to do in a foreseen car accident is brace yourself. It is better to let your body go with the impact. Seat belts and/or air bags are there for a reason. ;) In my life, so far, I have only been involved with one car accident. It was not long ago, it was the night The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers came out. My friend was giving my a ride home and we came to an intersection where we had to stop. (see diagram below) My friend's car is the lower right, the other car is upper left. Now, allegedly, the other car had its right turn signal on. I guess they took the veer to the right as a "signal-worthy" turn. Of course, my friend thought they were taking an actual right, like they should have been if they had their turn signal on. So, the light turns green. We go. They go. The dotted line of my friend's car begins to turn in an attempt to not get crashed into. The passenger door took all of the damage. Of course, that is where I was sitting. ^^ I did not even see it coming. After the crash, there was no glass in that window, and the door was punched in. Some of the glass was on the street, some of it was on the hood, some across the dashboard, some on the floor on both sides of the car, and some in the back seat. I only found a few in my hair. The most damage I took was a scrape in my right elbow (lucky me, I am left handed anyway :p). That is only because I had my arm resting against the door. Nobody else was hurt. The other car had almost no damage aside from a crack in their headlight and a bit of paint off of my friend's car. Funny thing is, they were a hell of a lot more traumatized then we were, lol. A minute or two after we got out of the car, checked if everyone was all right, and checked the damage we began making jokes about it, lol. I was probably the coolest thing, ever. My only disappointment was that I was not hurt enough. I mean, a scratch? This is a car accident! At least give me a broken bone or something. That would have been cool if I died, lol. ^^; Anyway, I am rambling now, but that is my story...
Juu
But if you just take the impact, sometimes it can hurt your spine. My mom got a disk because of that. (Where your spine slightly moves). I've been in three accidents in the same year three years ago. Although, I did the stupid-smart thing and ducked my head to my knees. Of course, we had a tornado-drill that day at school, sooo... ^_^;;; Anyway, I had my seat belt on, and I had my head ducked. My side of the window was hit pretty badly, and something actually flew towards our window. The second accident I did the same thing, and ended up just fine, and the third accident, I slept through. @.@;

Lady Macaiodh
I've been in a few bad ones & several not-so-bad, but I want to tell about this one my brother Jon witnessed. He was with his friend on Broad Street, which is a big main road through the city with lots of stoplights. His friend's car broke down suddenly & they got out to look at it. Another car, being driven by a teenage couple, made a u-turn to stop & help them. But as they did so, a huge mack truck ran a red light and plowed into the side of the couple's car. It flipped a bunch & was totally squished. Jon & his friend ran to help. The girl wasn't wearing her seatbelt, otherwise she would have died, but as it was she was thrown into her boyfriend's lap & had broken her back. The boy was in shock, kind of passing out & hyperventilating. They were both covered in blood. When Jon looked in, she looked up at him & just said "Please help me." He was just like, "Ahh, damn," because it was obvious she couldn't be moved & there was nothing he could do. So he just stayed & talked to her until the ambulance came. It was pretty ironic because they had turned to help my brother & that's how they were rewarded. He still feels sort of responsible to this day. I think the girl ended up paralyzed, and the driver of the truck got a DUI after Jon testified against him. I'm glad I wasn't there, that'd be really hard to witness.
Shaun
This was my one and only wreck. I was on my way to pick up Tara for school. I rounded the same curve I had for a whole year, and hit some ice. My little Ford Probe's Anti-lock brakes failed and I went straight into a guardrail. I remember the hood crumbling, and all the noise, and finally one big explosion. All was black for what my brother said was the next 20 minutes. And I do mean black. There was nothing. I woke up to find myself draped back in my driver's seat, and my brother trying to pull me out of the car. I tried to talk and couldn't. My mouth was full of something gritty and blood. My face and arm hurt more than anything. The airbag had done all the injury. The crash was rather minor, although it totaled my car. The air bag exploding hit me dead on in the chin, shattering all my front teeth, tearing the skin off my face and neck, and burning my arm, as well as straining it from the force. The impact gave me a medium grade cuncusion.(sp) I remember the cop telling me that had I been 2 feet to the left or right, I'd not be there. I'd have gone under the guardrail, between the posts. The rail would have killed us. One thing echoed in my mind the whole time. "Wake up, Shaun." It took my mom to point out that I survived for a reason. GinnyLyn
I know this isn't about car wrecks, but I just had something happened that changed my life in the blink of an eye. Turns out my mom went to my aunt's last night, and when my aunt was not looking, my mom took a whole bunch of sleeping pills. Fortunately, my aunt is a nurse and got my mom to the hospital, but still... ...waking up to hear your mom tried to commit suicide last night...it changes your life real fast. God, I am so in tears right now...

Charles
I'm so sorry Ginny. I can't even comprehend how awful that must feel. Despite what your mom must have been feeling, she's lucky to have you to see her through though. You can be the angel on her shoulder. And Lalaith, man, what an ordeal. I'm glad you're okay dude and it's tremendously awesome that no one else was hurt. If the driver of the van was under the influence, I hope he gets what's coming to him. I've almost been in a couple accidents myself. I was in the passenger side of my friend's car when a huge tractor trailer ran a red light and almost smashed into me, for instance. Gosh, my brother almost got hit the other day too because a car lost control on the snowy roads. Phew, public transit definitely has more points in the "safe column."
