Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
Hands down the best Japanese Film and franchise would have to go to Toho Eiga's Gojira aka Godzilla for you non-Japanese speaking people. It's one of the few movie series around that actually rivals that of the american James bonds movies. Godzilla has 26 movies under it's belt, and today still remains a watermark in Japanese culture. In a close second, I would have to say would be Gamera, since recently it's kaiju films have set the standard for most new kaiju movies. Also it's rather funny to see a flying turtle, now if only the japanese can get a flying pig everything would be right in the world.

Juu
I believe Shaolin Soccer's Chinese, too. -.o Anywho, I really liked the movie Sakura... I'm not really sure if that's the full title, but it was about a girl named Sakura, and how her life was like the stages of a Sakura blossom... It was a really sad movie. >< Also... Kung Fu is Chinese. o-o'
ThePikasElbow
Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samarai would have to be my favorite. Sadly, I really haven't seen a lot of non anime Japanese films, besides karate movies. Honestly, how many of us can walk to Blockbuster and rent Hidden Fortress or Yojimbo? Anyways, back to Seven Samurai. Not only is it my favorite Asian film, it's one of my favorite films ever. Probably in my top five. I rented it at Blockbuster several months ago and was blown away. Everything about it is amazing: the characters (although I don't remember a lot of their names) who are so dynamic and you really care for and enjoy watching them, the directing, the music, the acting, the story etc. It's 200 minutes of pure quality. I really want to buy it one day, but it's $40, same as all of Kurosawa's Criterion DVDs. I saw Yojimbo for $30 at Suncoast, so I might pick that up one day. And I know that this is Chinese but I'm gonna mention it anyways. Second favorite Asian film would have to be Hard Boiled starring Chow Yun Fat. A great story about cops and seedy gangsters with some of the coolest and most intense gun fights ever. The hospital fight is great.
conpiracymonki
Gen X Cops is Chinese too =D Have yet to see it though. It has Stephen Fung and Nicholas Tse in it. And a Jackie Chan cameo. =) *runs off to track a copy of it down* EDIT: I remembered a few more Asian films I like (Bollywood not included -.-'): 2002 (*points to previous banner*); Guns and Roses (I think it was called); and Goodbye Mr. Cool. They all came on CNX, and seemed pretty good. Except now they air once every week.. overkill >.> (in fact, Guns and Roses just finished about 45 minutes ago, again)
