Well... the 45th Grammy Awards were yesterday, and I was just wondering what you guys thought about the winners, nominees, and the performances. ^^

I actually didn't think Nora Jones would win that many... her song actually really got on my nerves since I hear it every morning. >>;

Soo... whatcha think? :whoops:

I think the nominees themselves were almost completely made up of groups that I feel never should even be where they are today, let alone up for an award...

However, I was surprised by some of the results when I read them a day later. I didn't expect some of the winners, and was happy to see The Flaming Lips got some recognition for their simply excellent Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (even if it was just for an instrumental). Also, I'm rather happy about the Foo Fighters win.

Yet again, I think metal got the shaft letting something win that simply shouldn't have (in my opinion). Seems to happen like that pretty much every year though, in pretty much every big awards show (barring maybe Kerrang's).

As for pop... Well I don't listen to a good deal of that stuff, so I have no opinion one way or the other.

Norah Jones sure did clean up though.

That has to be the worse awards show ever, besides black spiritual awards. Most of the performances were boring and the only thing that made it worth watching is when Robin Williams said "50 cent couldn't be here because hes got to much lead in his ***." For those of you that don't know, 50 cents has been shot like 6 times.

A few people at class reckon Norah jones has been acclaimed so much is because, not of her music, but because she's the daughter of Ravi Shankar, I don't know who he is, and I don't know why Don't know why is a huge hit over here, it's repetitive, slow, and drab. Makes me feel depressed whenever I hear it.

I don't necessarily have much respect for grammys, I'd rather watch the MTV music awards. I mean, who wants to know what a boardroom full of "music experts" think, when it is the people on the street who matter anyway? the MTV's are far more accurate of public perception.

ugh, what a horrible show the Grammy's are. Just a bunch of no telent American artist getting recognized for their crap. They don't even bother to show the foreign music winners. Not that there were any except for Latin artists. Whats worse than the Grammy's? The World Music Awards... which the world to them is Europe and America... no even recognizing Japan, who is the second largest music producer int he world, or any part of Asia... The Grammys don't either... it's rather pathetic you could just "skip" over that...

5,6 it's all the same. Point is you would figure after the 1st or 2nd bullet he would stop dealing.

Transtic Nerve would like to thank the academy for screwing over true musicians and screwing up most people's perception of talent.

the people have no say. this is not a fair representation of the people's voice.

The dirty politics behind the Grammys really turns me off to it. Besides being a parade of five-figure outfits and overpaid, overproduced, fame junkies, the event only features nominees that work for Sony, Vivendi, Universal, AOL-Time-Warner, or BMG.

I'm not a huge fan of the music industry anyway, but if I was I wouldn't consider this an awards show. The awards aren't about talent, but record sales and popularity instead.

sometimes its not even the popularity. its all about the sale. a billion people could buy record A and think it sucks. then they find out that they should have bought record B because its way better. they might not buy it (maybe download, copy, or whatever), but the sales show that record A is the best, even though it sucks donkey balls.

I like Carlos Santana, though. I was glad he won something. (I didn't watch the Grammys, though, I never do.) He's a genius with the guitar. I heard him say some things recently that I thought were great.

1) A true musical experience makes you want to "dance, laugh, & cry all at the same time. It's like a spiritual orgasm."

2) (This is the best one.) "You must be one with your guitar before you even begin to play." He compared his guitar to a woman & playing it to "making love."

I really admire someone who is that passionate about their music. I haven't reached that stage yet, but I hope I do.
