Hinata
It seems that CN has decided to give us a little peek at hthis series and I just bought the fist Vol. But how is starts up confuses me a bit. And I need this question answered, just to make sure. Is there something else before NG: Evangelion, or it this the true begining of the whole NG series?
Solo Tremaine
Nope. The beginning of the series is the beginning of the series. It is very confusing, but stick with it. It gets better and better. Well, I think so anyway. I actually managed to miss every episode after the first until episode 10, but I still think it's very good. NGE is a very confusing series. It was written to be complex, and some bits aren't still fully understood by everyone. I think it's amazing, though. Wonderfully powerful and thought-provoking towards the latter half, where most things mentioned in the first few episodes are explained.
Kinetic
It's weird that CN would bring Evangelion to the fans, seeing as how there will be so much to edit. If you watched the Japanese series and then the English, you would probably be astounded. Are they showing it on Adult Swim or Toonami? If it's on Adult Swim, there will obviously be less editing, but still a lot.

As for the editing of shows for Toonami, I am worried that they are going to completely screw up Yu Yu Hakusho when they bring it to the earlier time. Semjaza
You nod wisely a lot :p After all the anime I've seen, I've still not seen this series or anything based on it. I'm planning on watching the CN versions a couple times, because even if it's edited I'd imagine the general theme will be the same. I was under the impression it was just another mech anime, but Shy and so many people have told me otherwise. It sounds like something I'd love. XxmagentaxX
I was watching EVA on Cn yesterday... It was so funny... I couldnt believe they would even try to put that on TV.... I mean EVA is one of my favorite series.... its a total mind F**K!
Darkness
Eva is my favorite series, it makes you think alot! I found a site the other day (www.eva-r.com)that disregards the movie ending to nge and continues the story. If you're an eva fiend like I am, you'll enjoy it. Anywhoos, I'm glad that CN is giving a glimpse of NGE to people who haven't seen it. But I thought that they were only showing it on CN for robot week. For those who want to see it: GET THE UNCENSORED SUBTITLED VERSION PLEASE! It is 20 times better than the dub.
Syk3
While I'm glad that Cartoon Network brought this to unknowing anime fans, they did not keep it too much the same. There was some alternate music that sounded kind of weird, and they never finished the first episode. I didn't watch the second one on Toonami, but I imagine they had a mech battle between Evas. Yeah, that was supposed to be in Episode 1. Otherwise, the series is really good. This was obviously just a taste, and I recommend that you get the series. Of course, it is a bit expensive right now, so I'd wait for the price to go down. The cheapest I got it for was around $95. v_v It was deffinitly worth it though. Oh, and if you think it's confusing now, you ain't seen nuthin yet. ;)
The Merchant
actually, the mech battle with the first angel happened on the second episode, when the Eva001 first go bersek. in the first ep you just see the begining of the figth and then you get back to to shinji in the hospital. You don t get to see the actuall figth till youre very into episode 2. I really enjoed this series, even tough is to complex i doubt ill ever watch it again, i have it on vsh alongside with the movie. What botters me that is showed on CN is that the very thing that makes the series great will probably be edited out... funny sex scenes, the strong religion dilema, and if they edited the music, well thats just lame couse NGE music is just awesome. Manic Webb
They're showing all of Eva on Toonami? I thought they were just showing one or two uncut episodes during "Big Robot Week." That's what I read somewhere, anyway.
Semjaza
I thought this might interest people here. It's changes to only the second episode, taken from Anime News Network Evangelion episode 2 -- 1: Scene of Eva Unit 01's head spraying blood cut. 2: Misato's "And don't worry, I won't be making any passes at him" cut along with Ritsuko's subsequent tirade. 3: Yebisu beer cans digitally painted blue in car. 4: Scene of Shinji confronted by a pile of crushed beer cans and a liquor bottle cut. 5: Shot of shelf covered with various bottles of liquor cut. 6: Yebisu beer cans digitally painted blue in garbage pile. Liquor bottle digitally removed as well. 7: Scene of Misato asking Shinji to put away the food across a kitchen forested with beer cans and liquor bottles cut. 8: Scene of Shinji taking inventory in Misato's refrigerator cut. 9: Beer cans and liquor bottles digitally removed from kitchen table. 10: Scene of Shinji asking about the second refrigerator while Misato changes clothes cut. 11: Scene of Misato guzzling and relishing a can of beer cut. (This is one of my favorite scenes, too.) 12: Yebisu beer cans digitally painted blue on table and in Misato's hand. 13: Shot of Shinji cowering before Misato's breasts cut. 14: Close-up of Misato's butt as she admonishes Shinji across the table cut. 15: Shot of Shinji and Misato playing Jankenpon in front of a pile of beer cans cut. 16: Shot of chore schedule cut. 17: Pile of beer cans digitally removed from kitchen table. 18: Misato's "except, of course, of me that is" cut. 19: Beer cans once again digitally removed from kitchen table. 20: Shot of Misato's drying lingerie cut. 21: Shot of nude Shinji looking at Misato's drying lingerie cut. 22: Entire scene of Shinji's encounter with Pen Pen and his conversation with Misato (complete with toothpicks) cut. (Sorry Pen Pen. You're not in the show anymore.) 23: Shot of Misato in the bath talking to Ritsuko on the phone cut. 24: Misato now wears a blue digital bikini in the bath. 25: Shot of Eva Unit 01's head spraying blood cut. 26: Misato's "My god!" and Ritsuko's "Berserker" cut. 27: Scene of Eva Unit 01 breaking the angel's arms cut. 28: Scene of Eva Unit 01 ripping open the angel's chest cut. 29: Not an edit... Cross-shaped explosions left in. This is ADV's response.
HOUSTON, February 25, 2003 - Cartoon Network is currently airing episodes from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dai-Guard, Martian Successor Nadesico and the Harmony Gold production Robotech during the afternoon Toonami block as part of Giant Robot Week (Feb 24-28, 2003). While recognizing the value and significance of the anime titles they were granted permission to broadcast, Cartoon Network is also bound by the exigencies of daytime broadcast-including the requirement that the content they broadcast be, per FCC regulations, suitable for children. Cartoon Network's edits, which were minor, were in accordance with FCC broadcast requirements. ADV Films is very pleased that Cartoon Network requested episodes of these titles in their week-long celebration of the "giant robot" genre of anime, and we hope that their enthusiasm for the broadcast of anime will continue and grow.
Now while I cannot argue that, why even put the show on in the first place then? Seems really weird, and I wish the Anime Network that ADV is doing would come out already so we can see if they'll be editing or if it'll all be unedited. Most of what was removed was animated blood (apparently showing it on someone is fine, as long as it's not shown shooting out)... and beer. Solo Tremaine
Geez! The UK version on Sci-Fi was complete with blood and beer *evil laugh*. That's a good part of the show lost there. Although this is Cartoon Network- a kids channel as opposed to a sci-fi dedicated channel. I can understand not having the adult references (Misato's breasts and backside), breaking arms and spurting blood in the show, but do all the beer cans need editing out? Most kids probably see real beer cans far more often. Although I can understand them not wanting to encourage drinking. It still seems a little excessive. Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
Well I'm Glad CN decided to air a sneak peek of Evangelion during Giant Robot Week though perhaps they should of aired it at Midnight that way they could of kept in the edits and made it part of Adult Swim. Would of made more sense to me, I was disappointed that they chopped up eva and nadesico...-_- but oh well it's not like I haven't seen the uncensored versions. Flash
Suckers. *watches unedited NGE on Adult Swim in NZ* Seriously, buy the real thing. Don't watch this butchered crap they're feeding to you on Toonami.
Stryfe
God that makes me so mad... Evangelon is by far one of the best animes out there... Watching DBZ on cartoon network after seeing the japanese versions with english subs pissed me off, but I think I'd go out and break somthing if I had to watch Evangelon with all of that cut out.. Tip to anyone who hasn't seen the series, and is planning on watching it on cartoon network... DONT!!! www.ebay.com, buy the dvd's. Subversive
It's terrible, censorship cannot work on an anime of this calibur. I mean it pretty much ruined bebop and this is even more extreme. I remember when there was a bloody hand and the blood quickly turned black, it was so stupid.
Queen Asuka
Just to let you all know, I am very upset that they are showing EVA on CN. That is the most stupid thing they could have ever done. Now all these dumbs kids are going to be "Evangelion Otakus" just because they saw one very BADLY edited and dubbed episode or two. These people really have no idea what they are missing and it really makes me sad. I really love this series and I feel like I'm being betrayed almost...I guess that companies will do anything for money and CN is willing to pay anything for new anime. *Sighs* It's almost as bad as what they did to Tenchi... I don't think Nadesico will be as bad as EVA. That show really isnt' THAT mature until later on in the series. Have they started showing those episodes yet?

"...and in between sips of coke he told me that he thought we were sellin' out, layin' down, suckin' up to "the man". Well now I've got some advice for you, little buddy. Subversive
*Tosses Treton_noir a shield* While that will be annoying, it is inevidible. Annoying little kids will be annoying...always... I've seen EVA on DVD, this would be a trategy on censored air waves though. It is a great series, the first anime I ever saw (which may be why I like it so much), may have possibly been my favorite. I then finished CB and Trigun, so that flew out the window, but its still great. But what made it great: its oddness, mystery, and violence I can't see this masterpiece destroyed on CN, so...I won't watch it.
Queen Asuka
I'm not saying I don't want the world to see it, because Eva is always Eva and it's always been popular and it always will be. I'm saying I want the world to see it in its pure and original form. Not torn to bits and shredded and edited and made "kid-friendly." Because guess what, people? Evangelion was not made for KIDS! It is a mature show and it should stay that way...that's what's wrong with mainstream anime. They take mature anime and water it down until it's nothingness. I'm just waiting for hentai to pop up on network television.
