Guest Anakin Solo
PHEW! That they have. Matured they have. Like Nimrod, I was here since version 1, in fact I showed him the boards and was here longer. ;) Yeah I remember old topics that were far from mature. Huge arguments about things that would be closed within minutes nowadays. Topics concering "I want to be on SSJGoten's list!" ;) Gyahh...and flaming...>_<, I would know about that first hand, for I was one of the flamers. But yes, nowawdays topics have more mature...topic ideas. I totally agree with you.
SaiyanPrincessX
Originally posted by James I think part of the reason the site matures over time is because of our rules and the way we enforce them. Over time, if someone makes silly threads constantly...they'll either be banned or leave...or they will remain here and try to improve. It is those members who end up representing the more mature aspects of our community, I think. Sometimes you'll notice that lots of threads get closed in a short space of time. When this happens, I think it reminds people of the quality we expect to see. So, it's how things evolve over a period of time, really. That's how I see it, anyway. You can either get worse...or you can improve.
I agree completely. When I first registered here(Jan. 2001)it wasn't as evolved. Not version wise but the rules weren't as strict. People had topics putting others down ect. So yes its evolved quite well and I really enjoy coming to a forum with such a community.^^ I goto alot of forums but this one is by far the best IMO. Great job OB.;)
Guest Altron Gundam
Originally posted by Pressure Otaku itself has not matured much, it's the members that have. I believe I joined Otaku right around the same time as the terrorist bombings occured. Back then, you could go to nearly any topic, and at least one thread, was about Dragonball Z. Or you could go down the member list, and 60% of the names, had 'Goku' or 'Vegeta' in them.
That's how it is every new CN season for dubbies ^^. Lady Asphyxia
*Cries* Oh, my little baby is getting so old! ;_; Ahem. Yes. Well, I've been on here since around June or July 2002, and originally I didn't post much, because I had no idea what I was doing. I sort of noticed that there wasn't a lot like a chat room [Thank God!] in terms of spelling or grammar. I also noticed that there were older people here, and that the topics were quite good, not just "Scratchies Winnings" or whatnot. I'd say that as time goes on, the people mature. Eventually, some of the more mature leave, but as a whole, there are a lot here. And they set an example for younger members, and the younger members are encouraged to be more mature. I haven't really noticed the increasing maturity, but there are more delicate topics around now, from what I can see...the kind of things that people wouldn't have handled well in the beginning of OB's life.
Juu
Originally posted by Queen Asuka I don't know. I haven't really been able to post much lately because that's ALL that's on here: depressing threads about how much life sucks. Well, everyone goes through bad times. I think the reason people makes threads about it is to get attention and to get people to console them. I'm not saying it's a bad thing becuase everyone needs someone to talk to and I guess alot of people feel they can only open up on here. So this place may be their safe haven and their only escape. I'll just be glad when someone starts an entertaining and happy thread. I'm tired of all of you being depressed. Cheer up! The world is not ending! ^_^
*nods* I agree. It's been really tough to post, since basically all we can post is, "I'm so sorry that happened... That must be really tough for you,". My favorite version was V5, even though V6 looks the best. Even though I was trapped in Big Brother II for most of it... --; *pounces on Flashy's head*
Celia
I think it had been matured but I think it was a little more interesting when I first joined. I don't know, but maybe it's just the start of something. It's all about suicide and bad things now. I think everyone on OB is going through a terribly tough time. There was a little more interesting topics before...

Shy
Originally posted by James I don't think that really has anything to do with it; if anything, we've gotten more "immature" members via anime.
Hmm.... I'm one of the not-so-many people that have been here since v1, and after almost two years at OB I have matured a great deal. There have always been depressing threads in Otaku Lounge, but it does seem that the winter months are the worst (as others have pointed out). Lately I have been avoiding some of the more "mature" topics here; just because the subject matter is ?mature? does not mean that the people who post in it are. If you are ignorant on a subject then you have no right to post in it. Or maybe I?m just being too strict, oh well. Conversely, some of the "immature" anime topics have some of the most intelligent members on the boards posting in them. You would be surprised at the types of debates that go on in the Digimon forum. Kid?s stuff? No way. -Shy
James
I agree with you, Shy. I don't mean to imply that the anime forums themselves contain less mature discussions; not at all. I'm just saying that when we were primarily a GameBoy forum, discussions on the whole were more mature across the board. So, we've gone through many changes. We started at that point, moved to v2 (which, as I said, was probably the least "mature" version of the boards in terms of content) and now we're here. Somewhere in between. Still, I do believe that it's up to the members and not the thread itself. Some of the debates in Otaku Lounge have been about mature subjects, but some of the members involved have been immature in their posting. So yes, maturity on the boards is about the member and not the topic they're posting in. I think we can all agree on that.
wrist cutter
Mature or not, I personally think a lot of the posts here lately have just been uninteresting.
