Sitting on feet.

I have a rather small issue I want to say. I was just thinking about it now as I was sitting at the computer. What made me think of it was the pain I felt as my foot fell asleep and my knee twisted ever so slightly as I put my foot down. See, I have a habit of sitting on my left foot all of the time. I do it without thinking. Anyone have this problem or one similar to it? And how can I cut it out? I'm not too fond of pain. =)

i dont ever sit on my foot, but when i decide i want to change something, it has to be a conscious effort. youll have to think about it every time you sit down. i read a study that showed that it takes about 3 weeks to make or break any habit. after that, you should be good.

edit- i cant spell "conscious"

I tend to switch-off between my right foot under my left leg and my left foot under my right leg. I switch whenever I start to feel one of my feet fall sleep. I think by sitting on your feet, you're cutting off circulation to your foot. You can usually feel a sleepy foot coming, and when you do, move your foot. Make sure blood has a downward path down your leg (don't stick your leg straight up or anything) and shake your foot a little. I don't know if it helps, but I do it every time.

So I'm not the only one. Yay for foot sitters! ;) And I try to puut my foot down when I feel the tingling starting, but even when I do put it down immediately, it still falls asleep. *Is currently not sitting on her foot* Woohoo. Progress. :D

For some odd reason...I love it when my foot falls asleep. o_0 It feels all tingly...and I like that, lol. Right now......I am sitting on my right foot. :D One of the only comfortable ways to sit in my opinion.

Well, that sounds like quite a funny issue you have there. If you want to sort it out, think before you sit, it's an easy thing to do. I can relate to this, because I used to do the exact same thing. I don't do it now, obviously.

*Laughs at this thread*

Well, this is one of the funniest threads I've seen in a long time. I'm more used to debating rather than issues revolving around people who can't sit down properly.

Oh, and for the record, I'm the new guy.

lol. I don't find this thread funny. o_0 Most of the time, I don't start of sitting on my foot. It is after awhile that I begin to sit on it, because that is when I am not in a comfortable sitting position. Though....I can't speak for all who sit on their foot(or should I say feet? o_0) that is when I find myself sitting on my foot.

Whenever I go somewhere I have to sit on the floor (like a youth Christian conference I was at in the summer) I prepare for agony..

I can't sit with my legs straight forward, without just lying down, so I end up crossing my legs.. which kind of hurts after your legs and feet go numb..

but I don't sit on my foot on a chair.. no way.. heh

I always thought I was the only one who did that. ^_^;;; It's really become a habit for me. My chair's a spinny chair, so I like having one foot dangling, with one foot just... sat on. ^^; I sit on my left foot, and I have my right leg over my left ankle.

You know..that foot position is quite comfortable. Except I'm too lazy to sit like that, because it takes me too long to get into it o.o'

But I don't sit like that. I cross my feet at the bottom base bit of the swivelly part of my chair, with my right foot hooked over my left foot. And then I just keep turning slightly while I sit.
^_^;;

Wow. What I said sounds almost complicated. >.>

heh, I sit in my computer chair with my left leg under my right thigh too. How strange. If I sit down normal (which is by accident), I have to stand up and do it my way.
When I sit on the ground though, I put my left foot under my butt and my right foot under my left knee, so that the only part of me touching the ground are my sideways feet. Don't ask, its comfortable.

I can never sit like that for very long, mostly because I have hip and knee problems. If there's a quick something I need to type I'll rest like that and then go to wherever I was going to go. I suffer from low blood pressure anyway, so any kind of restriction's fairly bad for me :bluesweat

I'm fairly lucky in that I have a very large computer desk with a bar underneath it at the back for my feet to rest on, so I do that. I cross my ankles, too, because that feels more natural.

Apparrently it's bad to sit with one leg on top of the other thigh and then lean on the leg on top, because it strains your knee ligaments- that's what happened to my dad, anyway. Sitting cross-legged is okay for short amounts of time, but it restricts circulation, especially if you have very long tight socks.

I would recommend getting up every half an hour or so to let things get back to normal- sitting still anywhere for long periods of time leaves you open to things like DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis, where blood clots form in your veins and cause blockages). It's mostly associated with travel, but if you don't move anywhere much anyway it can still develop.

...

I do that too. O_o;; Oddness. And it is pretty damn comfortable too. =)

EDIT: Heh, I just remembered why I can't sit on my right foot. I sprained it in October, and it still hurts when I sit on it. O_o;;

Thats strange, I thought I was the only one to do that. I got into the habit a while ago in p.e. The floor was to dirty and I didn't want to sit on it.
