Gangsta Rap... still around?

First of all, this is about gangsta rap, not all rap in general. There's a difference, you know, like some of the different types of rock and such. Specifically, I mean rap that involves gang violence, not just harsh lyrics. Eminem, for example, would not be really "gangsta" rap. His lyrics are harsh, but he doesn't say a lot of stuff about being in a gang. Snoop Dogg, on the other hand, was a gangsta in his day. See the difference?

Well, what do you think of it?
I'll get to my own opinion in a while.

My opinion...

Thank god its gone...

or is it?

I bet you knew that would be coming from me though.

Actually I dont really care if its around or not because I like to let people have what they want.

Plus, I was a fan of dre, cube, t and dogg at one point, so I cant be too hard on them.

i voted for "i love all rap." i dont really love all rap, but i do like most of it. ive said it before. with any kind of music, i recognize and acknowledge talent. if you do what you do and do it well, i can respect you for that. there are a lot of talented people in rap music. what a lot of people dont realize is that rapping is hard. not everyone can do it.

on to gangsta rap.
i remember when gangsta rap got big. im not from the projects in LA, but im not the trendy teeny bopper suburban white america either. i remember hearing this music and feeling the realness it had. the people were talking about stuff that really happens. i might not have been able to relate all the time, but it was real. it wasnt "party all the time" stuff like rap was before.

i love Snoop (especially the old stuff. *puts on "Murder was the Case"*, the guys from NWA, Wu-Tang (is Wu-Tang gangsta?), etc.
i guess im done...

I seek answers...
Is Wu Tang gangster? I know Treton already asked that, but is it? I like there stuff, it's cool.
It's hard to sort it out really, so I went for 'I like all rap', because many people rap about gangsters etc. when they are really just fakes. If it's what's popular, then people, like Eminem will rap about it.

Gangsta rap annoys me sometimes, they just scream at the microphone and I cannot hear a word they are saying.

But Eminem is an exception though. My uncle and I are a really really big fan of him!

I also voted for 'I love all rap', even though I like some rap.

Gangsta Rap is okay, if you're referring to what I think you are. o.o;

Some Rap today get on my nerves, badly. Nowadays, most of the rappers seem to have the same voices, and same type of music. I mean, they even look alike. oO;

I liked some of the Gangsta Rap, like the...umm... I think it was called 'O.P.P.'... I don't remember, bah. >>;

I hope I'm thinking of the same thing. ^_^;

I think that Gangsta Rap is not really gone. I think it`s just that most don`t talk about gangs anymore since what happened with Tu-pac and Biggy.
I don`t think that made much sencse.
That's because Tupac isn't dead. Gansta Rap is still around, main artists being:

1)Tupac Shakur
2)DMX
3)Ruff Ryders
4)Dragon
5)Twista

You won't hear their songs in top of the pops but if you go into a large music shop you'll see them everywhere.

I cannot stand "Gangsta Rap" as it is called here. I can't really stand any rap, it's just not my thing at all. About the only rap artist that I have found I like is Eminem. There's just so much emotion in him and he actually sounds somewhat good to my ears.

But there is talent out there in the rap world, rap just isn't my thing. Period. Rock will always be my thing. Period.

So no, I cannot stand rap. To me it is a whole bunch of usually ignorant people using the language of the ignorant to splay forth subliminal messages and just pointless dirt and grime. But I do put that aside and look more at the how it sounds to my ears approach. But I can't stand it. It just has no power in it for me. Rock I find to be better.

But if you out there reading this do enjoy rap, I say good for you. But it is not my thing I will say right here and now. Given, all music has good points to it. But I cannot stand most rap nor can I like it.

But going down to the lower rap, the stuff that isn't as strong. Such past rap groups like Run DMC. Now some of that I've found I like. Especially Aerosmith and them in "Walk This Way"

That was something different, and it was done well. Today there's even other groups that are just from things like that. A combination of two genres. Linkin Park for example, rock and rap. And so on.

So I can stand the less hardcore and much softer stuff out there. But most of rap I cannot stand.

I don't like today's gansta rap.
Just look at the pure fake-ness of today's gangsta rap. At least back then, alot of what people were saying was real. Today, you can find over 1,000 accounts of murder in music that never really happened. Not to say that all gangsta rap has always been about violence, but it's become so superficial that, well, it is now. During the 90s, a gangsta rapper could talk about hating his "enemy" and turn right around and bring up a serious issue or two that made you think. Today, very few people have anything real to say.

A lot of new people come out talking about nothing but violence (all lies, by the way) and money (that they don't have, mind you) because it's the trendy thing to do, and then call themselves gangsta rappers. Please! Somebody tell Fabolous that he has to be a gangsta to keep it gangsta.

I appreciate some older gangsta rap for its seriousness, but today's is almost worthless. I think it's time for gangsta rap to give it a rest and a new type of rap (with substance) to come into play. Excuse my stereotypes, but all today's gangsta rap is good for is making middle-class white suburban teenagers buy your album.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to listen to an Outkast song.

I like that goofy, humorous sorta rap, like that Ludacris song "My business" (I get such a big bang out of that one). But I think I got over gangsta rap a long time ago. I used to listen to Warren G and Da Brat and old Dre & Snoop Dogg duets. Remember that song "Regulate"? I still know the words. Yeesh, kill me. The cheese flows on and on.

I voted for I can't stand any kind of rap. Some is okay, but for the most part, I don't care about who's "killin' there G's, smokin' there whatnots, etc."...no offense, but I'll take my alternative, thank you very much.

Blah not all rap has to deal with G's and puffin the magic dragon.

I guess you haven't heard of Nas
or even
DMX

Not everything they sayon thei songs have to do with that but you have to realize that they sing about wat they've been through an wat they've seen with their own eye.

You can't criticize them for talking about their pasts.Maybe you should the white teens that like it so much.

I like some gangsta rap. My favorite rap artist is Dr. Dre. His 2001 album is still awesome to listen to after 3 years. If 50 Cent is considered gangsta, then hell yeah. NAS kicks ***, and DMX is aiight from time to time.

"Maybe you should the white teens that like it so much."-Yu Law

i think you missed the verb, killer. you are correct, though. as with anything, its not all "whatever the generalization is".
Nas and 50 are awesome. im liking DMX a little more, lately.

hrmm..this is starying from the topic but i dont really like 50 cent much...i just believe that he is everything that is wrong with hip hop. I reckon the best rapper at this time is probs nas...his albums are good..such as stillmatic, illmatic and gods son...and this guy started when he was 19 with his first album...now thats fresh talent. So hes the best rap/hip hop artist around.

People made gangsta rap to show how their life was. Yeah people soon liked it and began to buy it but I don't believe it was for the money but more so the respect. If you could understand what they went throught then you'd understaand why they are like they are. As of now I don't beleive there are true GANGSTA rappers out there. MAny are now in the keeping it real mode or the bling bling mode....But maybe a gangsta rapper still exists.

*sweetreys searches endlessly for a tru gangsta rapper*

Gangsta rapas said by other peroplein this forum does no longer exist. the closest theses new artists have ever come to gangsta rap is 50 Cent, hes hard core. Eminemis not gangsta, hes a rapper who disses people. Many artists these days prefer to rap in a medi o core way because it appeals to the younger crowds. I personally prefer both gangsta, mediocore and underground rap.
