The products of a lack of inspiration

Well, quite evidently, I haven't had a lot of inspiration recently for my graphical art. I bided my time, and then *pop* out came the piece that Kenji did for Lady K...Dude.

I actually like those wire thingys, thought they were brilliant, but it got me to thinking, 'separated banners'. So I made one, well two different versions of it.

I don't really like it. The strip along the top is quite good, but the "metal" bits don't do it for me.

The combination of heavy bevels and a very flat object creates a jarring visual effect. I recommend removing the bevels entirely and then creating some sort of attachment to the main rectangular strip at the top.

The text is a bit blurry and hard to read, but that might be fixed if you removed the bevels (or severely limited them) and tried another approach.

If I had to rate it, I'd give it maybe 5.5/10. It has merits and potential, but I don't really like it "as is".

The bevel is way too thick, you should use it as one pixel, and the metal would look better if it was behind the banner IMO. Other than that the purple ones nice, the grey one's pretty boring really.

ok, while i have no idea what james and kenji are talking about(i don't know anything about graphics) i do think it could use a little work. the bottom part really doesn't fit with the top, and that is the main reason i don't like the first one. the second one, well . . . i just don't like it. it is very boreing. you've done much better.

Like others have said, the bevel is far too think, and the image is really flat. There is really nothing wrong with either of those except that they are put together. o-O It just looks very sloppy.

What I would recommend is setting the "metallic" part aside for a moment, and then creating some kind of slightly one or two pixeled beveled frame around the image. From there you can work the original metallic part back into it. Of course, lower the bevel to match the frame.

This way, it does not just looke like the metal part put on top of the image. This way, the metal part frames the image and branches off a bit. The metal part you have now will have something to connect to.

That is just my idea...

We try to emphasize constructive criticism here, gohan34.

Anyway, as I said, I like the purple part, and I'm sure you don't need to hear anything more about bevels. ^_~
