Semjaza
I guess Sephiroth's reasoning just doesn't float well with me. It just didn't seem compelling enough, or reason enough for me to accept him going completely off the deepend. That's me though, and I can't say that Kefka really had a better excuse. He was mostly just underappreciated and cast aside for various things. However, by the time Kefka replaces the Empire as the true villian in the game... He has most of the espers' powers, plus whatever else he got from throwing the world out of Balance and the things that followed. He was hardly any weaker in my opinon at that time. So to me, in that sense they are somewhat equal. The main difference is that Sephiroth could do most of his stuff from the start and Kefka had to work to get it... I don't think that's a reason for him to be looked at as something lesser heh. Oh well. This is fun thread so far haha.
Ultima Legacy
I would actually agree that Kefka is the best villan in Final Fantasy. Sure, Sephiroth wanted to kill everyone. Big whoop. Wouldn't every villan want to? The thing is, as Semjaza Azazel said, Kefka actually, killed espers for power, destroyed some of the world, and killed countless people just for kicks! If he was at a psychiatrist(sp?) he'd probably talk about killing people, gaining massive power, and getting revenge. In my opinion, he's a psychopath that hates everything and wants to destroy, destroy, destroy.
GinnyLyn
*bounces around* I need to get my copy of FF3/6 back again! Hmmm...slight problem in my reasoning. If people were more likely to continue playing FF7 and stop halfway through on FF3/6...would that be a decent argument in favor of Sephiroth? As in, the audience is more eager to see Seph "get it". Or as in, Seph seems to be the more compelling villian? *dodges Sem bolts and runs away, laughing Kefka like* So I like Sephiroth better, so sue me. :p ~EDIT~ Heh, Ultima Legacy, your reasoning is uh...well, you just said the same thing for both guys, and was just more detailed for one. They were BOTH killing people and the planet. *playfully glares at Sem and giggles manically*
"If he was at a psychiatrist(sp?) he'd probably talk about killing people, gaining massive power, and getting revenge. In my opinion, he's a psychopath that hates everything and wants to destroy, destroy, destroy."
I mean, seriously, this could apply to both of them. Heh, no one's dissuaded me from Seph yet.  No flame war, please. ~/EDIT~
Semjaza
I don't think most people stopped playing FF6 because it was boring or because Kefka was less involving. I hardly feel FF7 was that good because of Sephiroth early on, it was good for other reasons. So comparing that doesn't work for me. Sephiroth didn't truly matter in the game really that much earlier than Kefka did. Personally, I only finished FF7 because I didn't want a half beaten game laying around. The reason I get from most people as to why they never finished FF6 on the PSX was because it doesn't look as good. This is the number one reason, and while it doesn't fit the description of you guys, it sure does for a good deal of people I know who bought Chronicles just because it was an FF game. It wasn't what they expected. I'm sure thanks to yet another FMV advertising campaign on Square's part. I personally stopped playing the PSX version an hour in because I couldn't stand the load times... I've since played it on the SNES because I have the option. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gave up on it for that reason. I have no problem with you guys liking Sephiroth better. I'm providing my reasons, not attacks lol. Anyway, I see you got a GC heh. Send me any citrus stuff you get :p
Guest Zeh
But, Kefka really had no reason to do what he did. He just wanted to, and he could. So he did. Sephy was just really pissed off. Kefka most likely could of destroyed the world, but then who would he boss about? What would he have to rule? While Sephiroth just wanted to kill, he COULDN'T complete what he wanted to do, destroying the human race, he did try, while Kefka really didn't, otherwise Kefka would have succeeded. I think i better leave the arguing to Tony :p
Semjaza
This is just getting confusing haha. I think Sephiroth is a good (or whatever the word should be) villian. I certinaly cannot think of any other bad guys in FF games that compare to him or Kefka. They either weren't important, or they were just... I don't know. Look at Kuja. He's not that great of a character heh. I preferred the Queen to him honestly lol.
GinnyLyn
*peers at Sem* Citrus? Heh, ok, so I have Seph stomping around because he is really really pissed off and Kefka stomping around just because he feels like it. Madness without reason does make a little more of a compelling case for Kefka. ^^ O, the reason I quit FF3/6 was because of that maddening opera house scene. And I had a rom at the time...*dies*...now I can't get ahold of Anthology anywhere. But the day I can beat FF3/6, I will come back and offer my opinion as to who seems like the better vilian. Promise.
Semjaza
Why don't you like the opera scene? I thought it was done quite well, and it seems to be a favorite of a lot of people who like the game. Whatever you do, don't play the PSX version... It's a pain in the butt loading wise, and I feel it detracts from the enjoyment of it. Anywayyy... Kefka had reasons. Most of it was just greed and being powerhungry... But he did have reasons lol. Offtopic warning!!!--- Yeah... citrus :D It's a theme you can design your room in... Features oranges and limes and so on. It's in Animal Crossing. I saw you mention that in your sig :)
Guest Zeh
Like i said "i'm gonna get scared outta my pants at a little red feather headed thong-boy" Kuja just wasn't scary. I'd gladly face him off, rather than Seph, or Kefka. They were much more "scary" then Kuja... He just didn't seem dangerous.
GinnyLyn
I'd be more worried about Kuja busting out of his thong than anything else. *snickers and blushes terribly*
G/S/B Master
Don't mention Kuja's Metal Thong. *shudders* I agree that Sephiroth is a great villin. He masaquade a large amount of people, he's worthy of being the final boss ( you and your people with your cheap KoTR summmon ),and well.... HE'S A PSYCHOTIC INSANE MANIAC!!!!! I'm not sure of Kefka though...since I don't play FF6 heh.
conpiracymonki
Kefka looking slightly menacing... As far as I am in FF6 (which isn't a lot, lol), Kefka does seem evil. Just not cool. Or badass (like I said, not gone far into it). He just seems like some twisted clown that works for the Empire. I mean, poisoning a river is hardly comparable to burning a village down with everyone still alive. And the way he always seems to just keep running away when you give him some, lol. Atleast Sephy had the excuse that he was too cool to take everyone on until the end of the game. *will retract last statement if Kefka's mother's been battling Locke all this time* But yeah. I like Sephy better so far. Kefka hasn't really done much for me yet. But like I said, I'm not that much into FF6 right now. How to change Seph's ending? How about finding out Jenova actually was an Ancient. Just a twisted one, only. And Sephiroth destroying the whole world, along with every creature on it. And then his soul making its way into the Promised Land. And he finds Aeris already there, waiting. Smiling too, for some odd reason. O_o *runs away before someone fwaps him*
GinnyLyn
*resists urge to do so* Icks. Kefka reminds me of this one character in Digimon, the first season, named Piedmon. (The two look almost alike, really.) Naturally, all us Digipeeps were torn between stomach tearing laughter and all out whining about how a demented looking clown could be so deadly. But he was. In a major way. He could reduce a Mega Digimon (the strongest form) to a Rookie (dropping an enemy four levels is major impressive and terrifying at the same time in the Digital World) without even breaking a sweat. Just a toss of a huge clown hankie. Daren't laugh at him, else you'd be dead before you knew it. So there's an argument in favor of Kefka. Can't judge a book by its cover. And I'd really really like to get ahold of a copy of FF3/6 now, because I've wanted so much to finish it, even since my computer at the time died. (And the frokking opera scene means the part when you have a time limit on the rafters. >_<)
Guest Zeh
Well, i found a couple of cool pics of the Baddies, check em out: And, heres a real cool pic of Kefka, can't say he doesn't look cool after this :p Well, I think he's cool anyway :p
conpiracymonki
Wow... that kuji-sephy-kefky (don't say a word, anyone) is brilliant. The other image, I found too, but decided not to put it up seen as though everyone seems to like Amano's art. ^^ The bit in the opera that annoyed me was that I didn't know there was a script I had to read, until my 3rd or so try. So I spent lots of time just trying to say the right things. *eats the flower scene, because he didn't know where to put the flowers also* >.> Teh Piedmon
Semjaza
The opera scene isn't difficult. They go over exactly what it is you have to do, and the rest of it is self explanatory lol. The rats on the rafters aren't that difficult either, and Ultros should go down in a couple minutes. Level up some more next time haha.
GinnyLyn
Well PPPPFFFFTTT on you, Sem. *laughs kindly* I will when I get that game for real. I'm sorry, but Kefka definitely doesn't win any beauty contests. I had no idea that was his original character design whenever I stared at his sprite. Kuja, Thong Boy. *shudders* Thank the heavens they didn't make Auron wear one. *dies*
