I know this is an odd topic, but it'd be interesting to find a common thread in some of this boards oddballs

I'm personally more of a military history buff. American Mil History, I'm a genius at. Ask any question, I can probably answer it if it relates to that topic. As for any other b/s Military, I'm still pretty good at, just not as polished

I don't really think I'm a Histroy freak but I am really interesting in Medievil Times because that is basically where Fantasy comes from and I love fantasy.

Next year I'm taking a course called World History to the 16th century...I think its going to be really interesting.

:D I took history in my GCSEs if that counts, I do like history, but I think studying World War II five times in as many years is a little too much, I love other history tho, I studied medicine through time as part of my history GCSE.. now that was cool (got an interesting story about that).. and local history is usually pretty interesting, 'specially 'cos I live sort of in the middle point between Derbyshire, Oldham, and Manchester, which had a lot of mills of various kinds. :D

At the time, the people of Germany were Jobless, Homeless, and had little of anything.. Hitler promised to solve the countries' financial difficulties.. at the time he wasn't killing Jews, and once he did, I guess they needed someone to blame. It's a very loooong topic... I won't go into details.

The anti-semitism attitude was fiercely strong though. As you said, the Nazi's blamed Jews for everything in the book.

I do History GCSE at the moment (exams coming up ><) and I'm going to take it for A-Level, I like it that much. :)

Guys dont bring up the holocaust. I've got both personal issues and issues with it on this thread. If you want to argue about it, do it elsewhere.

As for the commander of the CSS Hunley, it was Lieutenant George E. Dixon. 7, possibly 8 crewmembers(one was not identified), went down with him and the sub in February 1864

History....*faints* I LOVE History. The majority of the books that I own are history, the only other type of book I own is Star Wars. I have been fascinated with history since I think 6th grade. I would always take my history textbook home with me and read it, I took sp much crap for that. And now I just go out and buy m history books. My junior, right now I am a Sophomore, I will be going into AP U.S. History(Advanced Placement)And I hear we get summer homework, I CANT WAIT!!!

So yes, I am also a history freak. ^__^

I adore history. Personally, I enjoy the history of Government types, Socialism, Anarchy, Monarchy, Republics, and how we got stuck with a corrupt Democracy at the new mellineum. Strange. o_o

I'm currently delveing more into the Crusades, and i'm oddly amused at how the Western Christians, out of greed, which is condemened by the bible, went to Constantiople and utterly devested the Byzantine empire, just becuase they were wealthy- But Byzantine were all Christians as well.

History is amazing, and I adore it. ^_^

I'm not much into modern history, but i've always loved learning about Ancient and Medieval history. To learn about how civilisation existed so many centuries ago is very fascinating. Actually coming out of highschool I had my mind set on studying Archaeology, but my parents didn't approve so it became just an interesting read.

I love history, but not to make anything personal out of this, (so dont get bent out of shape) but I really, really dont like "self proclaimed genious" types.

It gets old.

I guess I could ask you a simple question that I have asked here before and it is actually a really easy question to find an answer to, so good luck with it, Im sure you know... its been on tv before, so...

What did "g.i." ORIGINALLY stand for?

History was (one of) my majors in college, so I guess I am a little bit of a history freak. I tend to enjoy the history of Asia a little bit more then the rest of the world just because they have had such a different outlook on life in general. I am especially fascinated with the rise of capitalism in Taiwan, especially the interwoven American and Chinese gang relationship. Unfortunatly my school was limited in Asian studies so most of my classes focused on the Civil war, Antebelum America, and so forth...

By the way, GI came from the term "galvanized iron"...it was then transposed to "government issue"...

I tend to be a World War II history buff. It's my favorite thing to learn about. I know my history, or at least the basics of it and then some. But WWII is where I shine.
Same with me. I am strong in World War II, and World War I. But I KNOW there are people out there who know far more than me. ^_^;;

I absolutely love history!! ^______^
My favorites are, Medival, Early Humans, and World War II.

Fantasy relates to Medival, and Medival relates to Middle-Earth, and Middle Earth relates to LoTR, and LoTR relates to Legolas! ^ .^-...

Anyway... Medival times have appealed to me ever since I got stuck with the topic in my Gifted&Talented class, since I was absent. Later on, our whole class got to go to the Renesannce (sp?) Festival, and it was absolutely beautiful.

It's really interesting learning about how humans evolved. ^^ I know this relates to Science, but we studied Early Humans early this semester in Social Studies. ^_^; It's also exciting seeing how our inventions seemed to advance.

I'm the biggist WWII junky at my school. No one knows more then me, no one. I even have a subsciption to WWII magizine, and I watch the history channel constantly. It's very instresting, the first war with great tank battles, introduction of automatic rifles, jet aircraft, and it was right before the atomic bomb (Unless you count Hiroshima and Nagasaci, which was at the near end of WWII.) And did you know it might not have been the A-bomb that forced the Japanese to surrender? The Red army attacked the empire of Japan shortly after invading Berlin.

I'm more into mythology, & how it was colored by the history of the culture it existed in, mainly Celtic, Greek, & Hindu. I go through phases.

I also focus on interesting phenomena & the history behind it, such as the Bermuda Triangle, etc.

However, my favorite in purely historical study is the history of slavery in the United States. My great-grandmother gave me a big set of Time Life books on the Civil War & the parts about slavery held a horrific sort of fascination for me. I read it when I was really young, & have tried to find out everything I can about the African-American culture & civil rights ever since. I credit this intense study for my "color-blindness." It really opened my eyes to racism & it's stupidity. The actions of over a hundred years ago still oppress the modern culture. Oppressed cultures still have to essentially "catch-up" even though we are supposed to be equal -- and this applies to more that just race. If you think about it, most of the horrible things in history as well as today are the result of hate & greed. It's sad.
