It seems very stupid to me..

Personally I think the whole war thing is very irrational.. but this.. re-naming food because someone doesn't agree with you? how petty can you get?..

The majority of England doesn't agree with this war, despite the fact that our prime minister does.. and the majority of europe doesn't either. The American leaders should just accept that and perhaps pay a little attention to other people's viewpoints rather than doing something petty like this.

Well, this whole mess has been ridiculous from the beginning. You get on your nose if you support war, you get on your nose if you oppose it... And if you want to stay impartial, your get on your nose for not wanting to participate!

As for the ACTUAL issue of this thread, I think that those restaurantists (is that even a word?) are being VERY immature and acting like biggots. Some nation wants to keep the peace in the world, and you bash them saying they're "against freedom"?

I'm not impartial like my country's (Finland) goverment, so all my sympathy belongs to the European nations who want to restore peace!

...And now this thread turns to incredible flamefight with no real solutions, so please don't quote my post, because this is only my opinion and nothing can really change it.

Sara is talking about really important issue, so please don't let my opinions make you burst into flames! (Of course I can always leave my opinions unsaid, but... Nah! :p )

I just can't believe how spread this type of thinking is!

I've heard from the news that several restaurants took all their French wines out of the menu a month ago, and when they interviewed the customers they were all: "Oh, I like French wines, but I think it's better this way".

That isn't just stupid or ridiculous, that's... weird! How do they think that if they don't drink French wines, France will ultimately have to bend to US goverment's will?

Okay, THIS you can quote on, if you oppose. ;)

No, they don't think it will cause France to bend to the US's will, they are demonstrating their right to passive protest.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is incredibly stupid to rename foods because you are displeased with a country's foriegn policy, whats next? Are they going to start calling Cous-cous Liberty mush because it sounds Arab?

I personallythink this is very stupid and naieve and arrogent in the partof the activists who advocate this. I mean first they say boycott all stuff that is french but then they dont want to boycott all that is expensive (french). If you really want to bycott all that is french RETURN the Statue of Liberty. Oriley on FOX NEWS said that all french should be boycotted, but when asked if he would destroy wine bottles or foreign cars he said he wouldnt. This is very arrogant.

I love it.

I believe the french are a horrible group of people for more reasons than I could list here and with that in mind, I believe we should get rid of every element of french society in American culture.

I would say boycott all together but most would think I was over reacting.

Truth is...

france makes 9 billion dollars in profit off the united states and their economy grows at 1% a year...

If americans stop buying french anything, they will feel it more than us.

French reprisal is nothing compared to American reprisal.

I mean, there is a reason America is considered the biggest consumer in the world.

This entire war with Iraq is going way too damn far. The line needs to be drawn. I have nothing against the French, and I never will. Just because they go with what they believe with does not a give an American or the President of the United States a just cause to hate them.

Utterly rediculous.

It's not so much arrogance as it is hypocrisy. "Let's boycott french toast and french fries, but be damned if I give up my 20 year old expensive French wine... you know, the one thing that I really did get from France."

Anyway, hasn't anyone ever heard of "cinnamon toast"? How about "potato fries" or "potato wedges"? There's a difference between "passive protest" and "passive aggressive protest."

Now if you'll excuse me, my falafel is getting cold.

Now now Sara, don't you go getting all political on me. You should know better than to ruin your Casper image like that. Leave this kinda stuff to those of us who have already lost our minds and our souls to the cause - like me and Gokents. ;)

Hmmm... maybe we should also destroy the Statue of Liberty since the French designed, constructed, & paid for it, too, as a gift to the United States.

It's kind of a slap in the face to whoever invented those foods... a person who doesn't have anything to do with this situation at all...

And I don't see why it's suddenly okay to disrespect a whole nationality of people, all of a sudden. People who think this is different from racism, gay-bashing, or prejudice of any kind, are fools.

What idiot high on cough syrup made that up? It's got to be the stupidest war-related thing I ever heard. There's absolutely no point to renaming a food. Just because a nation doesn't support our beliefs doesn't give them the right to go around blocking aide funds and renaming thier foods.... Jebus....

Freedom Fries? :rotflmao:

That's absolutely the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Even if they do change it, I'm not going to McDonald's and ask for 'a medium-sized Freedom Fries'.

That's really, really stupid.

YEAH! I wonder what these idiots would say then!

Anyway, French Fries aren't even FRENCH! It was invented by a Belgians. (The only relation to the French is the fact that the French sold them to Americans) The frozen French fry we use in Fast Food resturants was invented by an AMERICAN! In fact, only in America do they call them FRENCH fries. The English call them chips. The French call them "fried apples"...

This is absolutely ridiculous. Blame your own country for making it French you stupid asses.

Good point
BTW: I like your sig ^_^"
I think it is kind of funny. People in the US are beginning to think that France is the big enemy in this war, not Iraq. They have their own reasons for wanting to stop this conflict, so we shouldn't rename any of our snack foods until we hear their side of the story. Most people just say "I hate France" without being able to explain why they hate France.

This only gives the international community another reason to dislike us, oh well...

the french word for "apple" is "pomme". the french call potatoes "pomme de terre" or "apples of the earth". actually, come to think of it, the only term i heard them use in reference to fries is "frit" (sp?). its pronounced like the english "free".

lol. i havent been in a french class for 3 years.

I heard this on the way to school today. I didn't think they were serious. o.O

It's times like these that I really want to reconsider resigning from the position of 'anarchist'.

Our nation's leaders, quarreling over.. toast and potato..

I'm sure that inspires fear into the hearts of all those overseas wishing to bomb us.. -_-

Heh. I heard about this on the radio this morning and wondered if I'd woken up in the right decade.

I just think it's very interesting...

Pffft, we don't bother with double word names. "Fries" works just fine for us.

Mmmm, french toast. Hungry now. *drools* Is french toast the same as cinnamon toast? I thought the first was make from eggs, and the second from bread? *feels silly*

I heard about this the other day and just about burst into laughter. Indeed, the immaturity of it all.

Interestingly enough, this is all history in the making. I remember taking Government and all those other Social Studies classes and wondering what people were smoking when they pulled similiar stunts like this. Now I know why. Sorta. XP

There's definitely nothing new under the sun. This isn't fazing me a bit--just providing a chuckle. (I can't wait for my kids and/or grandkids to ask me if this had really happened when they study this in their history books.)
