REVENGE2
Can God create a rock so big that even he can't lift it? I'm not trying to start any debates here (Read as: no one here get feisty and I won't either. You get feisty...well, hopefuly a moderator and/or administraitor can intervene and tell you (and probably myself as well) to stop.) It's just that this question has been troubling me for a while. Any religion which depends on the beliefe in an all-powerful deity, such as Christianity, Judaism, or Hinduism*, always and forevermore face the trauma of this question. If God is all powerful, then yes, he can create a rock so big that even he can't lift it. Likewise, however, if God is all powerful, then he can lift any rock, no matter how big the rock is. BUT, he's all powerful. He can create a rock so big that no one, not even him, can lift. BUT, he's all powerful. He can lift any rock. A paradox, and one in which there are only three answers: 1: God is not all powerful (He cannot create a rock so big that even he can't lift it) 2: God is not all powerful (He can create a rock so big that even he can't lift it) 3: God, at least as far as we know him, is not real. I'm just wondering if I can get any Christians, Jewish, Hindus, Muslims, anyone, to explain exactly how they would explain their way out of this mess. It's like how war does not determine who's right, but rather who's left, but whoever is left then goes on to determine what is right. Fortunately the chicken-egg problem has been solved (The egg came first), so that's no longer a paradox. ************ *I'm a bit confused on this myself. Apparantly, Hinduism is both a monothesism and a polythesism. They believe in Brahma (I think that's right...), Shiva, Vishnu, and a host of other gods, but all are regarded as facets of one, all-powerful god. Ack. Religion is far to confusing, my head hurts from trying to figure them out. I dunno about you people, but I, personally, am better off without it. I'm alive. I'm personally satisfide with that and will deal with what happens after I die AFTER I DIE. I need an ale...
DeathKnight
This is pointless. Who says he lifts things in the first place? He isnt a physical being at all, so lifting things isnt required by him. In other words, he can create a rock that is ever expanding and continually be able to lift it. Createing one that he cannot lift would be impossible, since he can do whatever he wills to do. Lastly- Why would createing a rock even he cant lift prove anything? I'd rather he create something interesting, since we all know he can do whatever the heck he wants, this question is just stupid. o_O;
TheShinje
Where in the Bible does it say he can do everything People just assume that. Anyway, God will be able to create a rock to heavy, yet lift it, in a way our feeble human brains could never comprehend. The Bible says he's omnipresent (ie. everywhere) it never says he can do everything anyway, This paradox was brought to my attention by Piromunkie ages ago, so bleh
Mitch
This question is pointless. Who says God is even a physical entity? No one. This question is purely based on an opinion, and it won't lead anywhere other than where my thread ended off. So I'm going to close this since all it will end up doing is killing itself.
Guest cloricus
You are thinking of god as a person. When Christians say they are created in his image they are just rabbiting on, it makes them feel better. You have to understand that (the Christian) god is not a person as such as every thing. (It's a weird concept that if you were brought up with you would understand. What I put there was just a simplistic version of why this question is plain stupid. If someone wants to elaborate on what I put be my guest, I can?t I?ve got school in 10 mins.) Eps - Hmm I think to day I'll take creaming soda. Justin
The Bible actually says there are things he cannot do, if memory serves. Such as: Lie. For, if God told a lie, it would become truth. ;) But this thread is pretty pointless. And, if I'm not mistaken, you've been banned before, slick. -Justin
