Tears of the Sun

This is quite possibly one of the best films I've ever seen in my entire existance. If you haven't seen it, you're not cool anymore until you do, lol. I walked into that movie with one perspective on a few issues and walked out with either a completely different pespective on an issue, or an extremely bolstered and beefed up opinion on an issure. Very moving movie. I highly suggest you see it.

(Does anyone want to ramble on about this movie like I do?)

I saw it. I wasn't too impressed w/ it. It was a pretty good movie until the end. I mean come on, 6 americans vs. hundreds of enemy troops? They should have been dead in under 30 seconds. Anyone with half a brain would hit the dirt if 10 rpg's starting firing at them. But these guys just walk head-on at them. Those modified m4's that some of the guys have held 30 rnds per mag. Yet they would fire them full auto for over 4 seconds (the time it takes to empty a 30 rnd mag from a m4 full auto). I am a stickler for military realism. The ending just blew the whole movie for me. But if you don't care about military realism, then it was a great movie. I say The Hunted was better tho.

I saw it. It was pretty good, but I didn't expect the movie to be just a resque type of mission, lol. I didn't like what happened, thinking about all of those people that died for practically no reason, but it was portrayed very well. I don't think I'm going to see it again though, I'm not really a fan of war type of movies. My brother was just able to drag my entire family to go see it. ;)

It wasn't that good, I didn't think. I've seen far better. But then again, I liked deep, science fictiony type of movies that make you think. Ah well. It was only average in what I thought. It was just a movie showing that sometimes doing the right thing is the better thing even though the other route is so much easier. Not all that moving if you ask me.

And another thing, what did the title have to do with the movie? Tears of the Sun?! It makes no sense w/ the movie. If it was called Tears of the Son it would make sense. But you have to see the movie to get that title. ;)

In that case, wouldn't most of the specialized units most countries hold, such as the SAS, be doomed?

Anyway, you all have conflicting opinions on this movie.. so I don't know whether or not to go see it. ><

Yes. Yes they would. 6 SAS, 6 GSG9, 6 SEALs, 6 whatever's would all be killed if they tried to fight hundreds of enemy troops.

Well duh, look at Somalia. In that, there where around, dunno, 10,000 rebels? They only killed 17 and wouneded 89 for the loss of like 1000. But think about it, they where SEALs and deltaforce operators, I don't plan on seeing it. It sounds ok... I'll probably download it.

I didn't think it was very good at all.

I just had a hard time being pulled into a world where a super model is supposed to be a doctor and just happens to be perfectly made up while running through the jungle.

By the same token, the character development was, well, absent. The movie didn't give me a reason to care about any of the characters. We're given interesting people in an interesting scenario, but they came across relatively flat. The main villain barely even says a line in the entire film, for example. He has a very intimidating look about him, but...that's it.

Tears of the Sun did have its high points. The cinematography was amazing--delivering some gorgeous shots of the lush African jungle. In that area, the film excelled. It pulled me in when the script failed. And--the film did have its emotionally jarring moments, touching upon tragedies like ethnic cleansing with graphic scenes that I won't forget anytime soon.

But, at the end of the day, Black Hawk Down and We Were Soliders do the same thing as this movie--only ten times better.

Finnaly got out to see this movie...it had some cool action, but it was...uh as promised, generic and cliche. I got up to go to the bathroom when they stoped to rest in the middle of the film. When I returned I asked if I had just missed "generic war movie team support" and was greated with an afirmative. The movie is not bad, it's not great...wait for it on video.
