Jason X

I'm going to see this movie on the weekend, I was just wondering what others thought of the movie. Supposedly, Jason Vorhees, the serial killer, is cryogenically frozen and thawed out by aliens thousands of years in the future. And then he does what he does best, goes on a killing spree.

Does it live up to the first Friday the 13th's? Is it as good? what are your opinions on this gruesome franchise (not the last sequel, Jason goes to hell, was supposedly the last one)

I can't say there is that much to live up to... heh. I like the series though.

Jason X was extremely tongue in cheek. It doesn't take itself seriously at all. You'll see a lot of points in the movie where it sort of pays homage to things the older ones has done, but sticks them in a somewhat humorous light.

There were some good deaths (one in particular,
involving freezing a girls head and then smashing it against a counter
).

Really, it's mindless and you won't get anything new or original out of it. It's nothing special, but it's not bad to waste some time with.

You've obviously never seen Daredevil or Carlito's Way (which is the only movie I've ever walked out of)

Anyway, I think the Friday the 13th movies lost their originality after the second one was made. when you drag on a movie series so long it just is the same thing over and over. Although it does put some light as to how Jason works (why he doesn't die, etc etc) But other than that, it's an ok movie. If you've seen the others it won't be scary at all. I did like how they made light of the previous movies by making fun of the 80's girls in the sleeping bags. That made me laugh.

I'd much rather watch the Halloween series. Which never seem to lose appeal to me...

Well, the appeal of the Friday the 13th movies was never the plot. Obviously. I mean if it were, then I highly doubt the series would be as successful as it has been. The appeal quite simply is a kick *** deformed psycho killer murdering anyone who gets too close to him. That's it. People watch the Friday the 13th movies to see people getting killed by Jason.

As for Jason X, it was quite amusing in a sense. They turned it from the usual horror movie into a comedy. There were a lot of scenes in it that were there that just made it laughable to ever consider Jason X a horror movie. It was entertaining for a bit, but it went downhill with the upgraded Jason. He looked absolutely horrible, and the way the upgraded version looked reminded me of something you'd probably see in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

There are quite a few cool deaths in there, but that's basically it.

Thankyou for your opinions. I do only watch these movies because of the Gore, and the violence. Heck, all those horror movies are funny to me, especially the stupid childs play ones, as if they were ever meant to be scary! I don't get spooked at movies ever. I was told to see the exorcist and that'll scare you, yeah right!

I didn't see it this weekend, but your description of an "upgraded" Jason has me intriqued. It is certainly a must see for me now.
