Cora Jane 2
Just so you know... I think there was a thread on punk music previously. But I like MxPx and stuff like that, plus a bunch of rock music and other stuff.... but yeah.
Semjaza
There've been a bunch of threads on pretty much every music genre, and in this case, they always seem to come down to arguments and semantics about what is considered punk and what's not. NOFX is decent. MxPx's studio albums are total crap in my opinion, but they are surprisingly good live for a "mall punk" band. Personally, my favorite bands that fall into the grouping (I stick punk, hardcore and all that in one group since it's easiest) are Bad Religion, AFI, No Use For a Name, Curl Up and Die, Descendents, Millencolin, The Vandals, The Ramones and Sex Pistols. Ska-wise I always stick with Voodoo Glow Skulls. I sometimes see Modest Mouse and The Pixies grouped as punk, but I don't feel that either fit in that. I love both of these bands as well. My favorite punk band (which I'm mentioning for the 5th time now) is a local band known as Apocalypse Hoboken. They have a pretty rabid, although small, fanbase here and around the country. They broke up a couple years ago sadly, but put out Microstars on Kung Fu records before they stopped. Good thing, because it's an excellent album. I think a piece of me died with them heh. Turkey
I've been getting very deep into Punk during the last year. Right now, I've been into NOFX (the Decline owns all!), Bad Religion, Offspring (check out their first CD, which is among the best punk), Rancid, and plenty of others. Guest Fiasco
....Too bad NOFX and MXPX isn't punk rock. Thats such a shame. Real punk music is stuff that probably none of you have ever heard. Stuff like Clit 45, The Unseen, The Virus, Varukeers, A Global Threat[personal favorite]and more that I will fill in later.
OlgaTheDwarf
Has anyone ever heard of the band Stretch Armstrong? They're a great punk/core band, and they are going to be touring with New Found Glory, Good Charolette(blahhhhh), and MxPx on the honda civic tour. so If you get a chance to see them they are really good. Semjaza
See? It happened already. It's so tiresome lol. Anyway... I've heard of Stretch Armstrong, Olga. I've not actually gotten to hear them though. I'll have to check it out, but if they're anything like the other three you listed... I probably won't be that into it. Guest Fiasco
...Mainstream punk isn't real punk but whatever. Its all cool, like what you want, just get the labels straight if your going to label anything anyway. Anyone ever heard of Lower Class Brats or Devotchkas? Devotchkas is the BEST female punk band out there. They are great.

Semjaza
It's possible that they just took the offer to get some exposure. Makes the most sense to me. A lot of smaller bands seem to do that, based on concerts I go to... But most punk bands seem to stick together sound wise, so who knows.
spike speigel
Hm, well I guess I'll list my favorite punk bands. They are(in no order): Inspection 12,AFI, Midtown, Strung Out, Nofx, Bouncing Souls, Rx Bandits, Bad Religion, A static Lullaby, and Off By One. Well, that's about all I've got to say. Guest Musahi
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel No Use For a Name
I love NUFAN! :D I was actually about to post a topic about them before I opened this thread. I have only heard like three songs of theirs though. I really like their sound, it's pretty unique. I enjoy other punk bands you listed too. AFI, The Pixies (who I don't consider to be punk at all), Millencolin, The Vandals, The Ramones, and Sex Pistols. And some you didn't list. Jack Off Jill, Clash, Pennywise, Sick of it All, and the Dropkick Murpheys. Probably others too, I am not thinking to well today I guess.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Ska-wise I always stick with Voodoo Glow Skulls.
I never enjoyed them too much, I am more of an Aquabat fan myself. Edit: I forgot Ozma.
Semjaza
Yeah, as I said... The Pixies are sometimes listed as it, but I don't feel they are either. They do have some punk aspects though. However, Jack Off Jill is definately not punk. I don't know what songs you heard, but I'm a pretty big fan of theirs... I can't think of anything that even resembles punk in more than a extremely tiny aspect lol.

vegeta rocker
semjaza has a point, when they start arguing over whats punk it gets annoying! Punk is a state of mind and belief. so there. anyway, i like mxpx also and the ataris are cool too.
Heaven's Cloud
I am suprised so few of you mentioned Pennywise and Dropkick Murphys (besides Cyco, I don't think anyone did), these are two of my favorite bands, and they are fairly mainstream. I'm also a big Social Distortion fan, I enjoy NOFx but I prefer the Clash, and the Ramones rock, but I hate Melincolin (don't know why)... As far as what is punk, well I think punk is whatever you want it to be. If you think that Blink 182 is punk cool, if you think only hardcore bands like The Sex Pistols and the Vandals are punk, that is your thing. Personally I don't like punk music as a genre, I like good music...and we all know that good music is all comprised ofpersonal speculation...
Guest The Mage Prince
Pennywise is cool and jack off jill are really different i 1st heard them when my gothic friend was playing a mix cd in art class. They start off cool but i think there are strange and weird. My fav Sex Pistols song is anarchy in the u.k. But punk has to be the best music ever made. My sister is into POP and RAP so when she plays that crap i put on my stereo up full blast so i can't hear it mum tells me to turn it down but i can't hear her, until she turns it off. Being a teenager bites but just over a year im 18 years old and can play my punk music any where. Does anyone play in a band? I do. My band is called "My Broken Shadow". Semjaza
Jack Off Jill itself is the strange and unusual. I'm surprised anyone expected any different from a band that was pushed forward by Manson in his early days (back when they both had a similiar sound). Too bad they broke up... At least Scarling sounds to be amazing, even better than JOJ (which in all honesty is one of my favorite bands ever, and definately one of the top few mostly female groups I can think of). Anyway, none of that has anything to do with punk... so my apologies.
vegeta rocker
mmmmm well other punk lets see.......haven't been keeping up with the times much. I guess that dead kennedys deserve to be added. And to the mage prince, cool band name. the only thing holding me back from starting a band is musical talent. ^_*
Guest The Mage Prince
You don't need musical talent to start a band just get a bunch of mates and muck about for a bit if you love the music and you all are not very good at playing, it does not matter. It took a bit for as to get a name we all liked (I came up with it *_*) I have come from other bands me and my rythum guitar player are for my 1st band called "The Back-Shead Trio" So you really have to be good mates to start a band, Anyway you don't have to play but sing if you can ^_*. If anyone wants so help on starting a band just ask me.
