Sonic Advance 2

Hey, well, I'm kind of surprised that I'm coming up empty on Sonic Advance 2 threads. It's supposed to be among the top GameBoy Advance games; much better than the first Sonic Advance.

Well, I say 'supposed to' because I havn't exactly bought it yet, but then, I didn't even know that it was out until Thursday night. Magazines such as EGM didn't drop a single note on it at all, and didn't even put it on the list of games coming out in March. When I first saw the game, it was a total shock, and if I had the money right then, I would have bought it, lol.

I went into school the next day planning on telling my friends about it, and one of them already had it. Needless to say, he had his face in the GameBoy the entire day...literally. He had me stand in front of him in the hallways so he didn't bump into anyone. On his account, the game was much better than it'sa predecessor, and TechTV's Extended Play gave it a 5/5, and said that, quote, "fans of the old Sonic will be in heaven."

So basically, I want to know who has this game and what your thoughts on it are. How do you think it ranks up among the first Sonic Advance and the old Genesis titles?

Ahh, I didn't notice this thread before.

I wrote a very extensive review for this game at N-Sider. If you want, you can read the full thing here:

http://www.n-sider.com/index_content.php?page=reviews/sadvance2.htm

It's probably the most extensive review I've written for N-S. The reason is because I am very impressed with Sonic Adventure 2.

It's a lot better than the first game (and the first was pretty darn good).

There are a few major benefits to SA2. For one thing, it feels like you're running twice as fast; SA2 is seriously a very fast game. Also, as I said in the review...you don't get things unfairly popping up to stop you from running (like enemies or oddly placed spikes).

The levels are designed to encourage high speed. And the bosses are all quite unique and interesting.

That's probably the most basic summary I can give. The review explains it in more detail. ^_^

Ah, I myself do not have this game, but i have played it in a store as a demonstration of the Gameboy Advance SP.

I am not a Sonic fan I can tell you, not one bit. Although, I do admit, I was in love with the game at the age of seven. However, I found the port (Notice I didn't say a 'straight' port) onto the Gameboy Advance very interesting.

I agree with James, the way they have created the game is of an intensity to an extent. And as we all know, a small screen leads to more intensity. I found the colours to be very soothing, while they also gave me a sense of nostalgia from previous titles.

I would recommend this to any Sonic fan out there, but to those that are not interested in 2D platforming, perhaps you may lose interest at a very rapid rate.

This game kicked ***!!!!!!!!! The only problem I have is that going through those special stages to get the emeralds. All that work and Super Sonic only has a boss fight.I would rather have it be like Sonic 3 where you could turn into him in the stages too.

I just got the game yesterday, and it's awesome. It's way better than Sonic Advance. The graphics are better, it's longer than SA (but still not that long), it's a lot harder, you fight the bosses while you run (like the first boss in Sonic & Knuckles), the Chaos Emeralds are easier to get, and you also get a new charecter, Cream the rabbit (she's also my favorite to play as). She also attacks with a Chao named Cheese! What's not to like about that? Anyway, if you have a Game Boy Advance, I highly recommend buying this game, whether you're a Sonic fan or not.

I don't have SA2 but i do have the original and it kicked butt. If SA2 is as good as everyone says i'll have to get it soon. The first one was a little too easy, i thought. The bosses weren't that hard, but there was one chaos emerald i couldn't get after trying and trying. So i guess SA2 is a must-have!
P.S. i am a sonic fan

About time I posted in my own thread, lol.

I finally got Sonic Advance 2 yesterday, and I've been playing it a lot even though I gave it to my brother for his birthday. It's such an amazing game, even better than the first.

I love the new moves. In this game, you can press R and you'll kind of glide up, or over, depending on which way you press the d-pad. Also, if you run fast enough, you'll kind of go into a super speed, and you'll see faded images of yourself behind you. Even the speed is a lot faster than the previous game.

And the levels are great too. They are much more impressive and interactive, and a lot longer. The graphics are sharper, and there are more things to help you along and such.

The only thing I dislike is how hard it is to get chaos emralds. It will take me forever to get all of those special rings; how much are in each level?

All in all, it's an amazing sonic game. It's better than the first advance game in my opinion, and a must buy for all sonic fans.

Sonic Advance 2 is a great game, lol. You can set it to different levels of difficulty, so it varies how long it takes to beat it. There are 5 different characters, each with 14 different levels, plus 5 boss levels. And then you can collect a certain number of special rings in each level (like I said, 14 levels) to get the chaos emralds, one every two levels. After all that is done, you fight Dr. Eggman as Super Sonic. Some of the levels may take you a while to beat, too. I'm stuck on the Sky Canyon Boss level, but before that, that levels took me forever.

Well, my review pretty much explains it all. They didn't change the bosses; they're all still Eggman/Robotnik.

And he still flies that little ship thing. lol

But now, they take on a scrolling format, like the first boss level in Sonic & Knuckles. It's quite interesting, because each boss is still very different in terms of strategies and whatnot. I really think Sonic Advance 2 gets everything right...much moreso than the first Sonic Advance.

I liked the classic type of bosses! They were fine the way they were! That makes me angry! (Turns into Hulk and kills eggman) I can't believe they ruined it. But I have to say it's better than Sonic Advance.
Oh come on. They didn't ruin the bosses.

I mean, the only real difference is that the screen is scrolling now. Big deal. There are no fundamental changes to the way the boss acts, basically. And you still essentially go through the same process to kill the boss.

SA2 is a lot better than SA. The bosses are nice, but they aren't the be-all and end-all feature of the game, I'd say. This game is worth buying if only for the lovely level design. ^_^

I just finished my brother's copy of SA the other day. I must admit I found the game to be a total chore. It didn't even feel like Sonic. I just kept at it because I wanted to finish it.

I'm very reluctant to even try SA2... I hope it's as good as you claim.

Sonic advance 2 is one of the best games i've ever bought. :)

the only things that bother me is the fact that you have to unlock certain characters and things :(

but this game is still one of the best ever made and the boss fights were more interesting
(espcially the one where you have to change from the floor to the celing :p)

and once again a new character was introduced making the game a little more fun for me :)

This game was one of the most fun games I've ever played. I agree with Tatum-X. It was even better when you could change into super sonic in any level. They should remake sonic 3 for the gameboy advance if they haven't already.I just remembered that if you got all the emeralds in both halfs of the game you could upgrade Super Sonic to Hyper Sonic. Sonic glows a rainbow of colors instead of just yellow. He also gets to use his homing attack.
