I really enjoy the music of .hack//sign. Some of my friends complain that the music is too mellow compared to other series such as Evangelion or Cowboy Bebop. The music isn't really a focal point, and it just blends with the series perfectly. My friend lent me a copy of the OST, and I always listen to it while I am on the computer.

Ayup the music kicks ***. *lamely starts singing in horrible voice*. I can't decide which I like better. I really like the haunting melody that they have in the episode, don't know what it's called. It starts with "come with me in the twilight" I hum that every night before I go tosleep. I love that tune. The rest of the music is good too. On another topic, don't you love the music to silent moebius? And also betterman. Just asking. Please answer me.
*sniff*

By the way you think I spelled it wrong? It's supposed to be moebius. So there. It's just been done incorrectly. Go to the official site if you don't beleive me, you paranoid biznitch. lol. What was that url again? Ah, here it is! I hope that html works I'll be really pissed if it doesn't. I don't know cb code....*sniff*

I bought the box set, and I currently have the soundtrack in my car stereo. The whole soundtrack is amazing. It's definitely one of the anime with the most consistent quality tunes out there. My favorite track is #4, which I can remember the name of, since I won't go to my car just for that. -.-

i think the best 5 songs of hack will be:
1st: Fake wings (subaru Theme)
2nd: a little bit of happines
3rd: B.T
4th: The World
5th: Key of the twilight.

you should make an affort to download, or buy the first cd... (not the obssesion cd but the second one)... its extrodinary good, found it better music than cowboy bebop even...

I think the songs of .hack//sign are kind of mellow and quiet and I mean that in a good way. I mean it blends with show and doesn't take alot of attention away from the dialougue and yes it's kinda weird that both lyrics are in English.

My friend lent me a copy of the OST, and I always listen to it while I am on the computer.
Actually, the music is very much a part of the series. While it may not be a focal point per say, it is more significant to the experience (as well as for the story/character development) than you brush it off to be. Take Subaru and the song that plays while she is on the screen: Fake Wings. Now, the following isn't a spoiler, but it is my opinion/forecast, and if it's right, then it is a spoiler, haha.
Fake Wings talks about a person who "flies" because of another ("Dear my love"), but at the end of the song, that other person goes too far. I think the song basically says that while Subaru is all high-and-mighty right now because of the Silver Knight (her love), he'll eventually succeed her or go past her in some other way, and she'll suffer a huge fall from her high place.
Oh, and the name of the song everyone likes (i.e., twilight, track #4, come with in the twilight, etc.) is "Key of the Twilight." Also, the opening song, Obsession, is sung in a mix of english and japanese, while yasashii yaoke, the ending song, is sung in all Japanese. Every other song in .hack is sung in complete english.

Not meaning to ruffle any feathers, but I beg to differ... Obsession is sung all in English. Both the TV-Sized and Full-Sized versions.

*gets it out to listen and make completely sure*

Yup, all English ^__^ - It's just a little hard to pick out because the artists singing it are Japanese

Interesting... You know, I listened to it to, and I was wondering over and over why I couldn't hear some of the words. Finally, I realized that there were parts that were sung in Japanese. I admit, however, that the song is dominantly english, but there are a few Japanese phrases. I haven't heard the "Full-sized" version, but for the TV-mix, I'll break down the entire song:
how come I must know -English
where obsession needs to go? -English
how come I must know -English
the direction of relieving? -English

deep in the night -Japanese
far off the light -Pseudo-Refrain in Japanese
missing my headache -Only "headache" in English

visions of light -Japanese
sweeter delight -Pseudo-Refrain in English
kissin' my loveache -Only "loveache" in English

how come I must know -English
where obsession needs to go? -English
how come I must know -English
where the passion hides its feelings? -English

First verse refrain -English
That's the gist of it. I know there's those cool refrains here and there, but that's just being nitpicky. Anyway, I don't care how much you have been trained, how talented you are, or how much slang you know: there's no way you can turn three or four syllables into two. If you can tell me the miraculous method of how See-Saw (the group that did the recording, I think) transformed "missing my" or "deep in the night" into only two and three syllables respectively, then I will agree with you that Obsession is all in english.

"mi-ssing my love-a~che" - 5 beats
"deep - in - the - ni~ght" (lengthen the "i" sound) - 4 beats

It's like climbing stairs O_o when you sing that bit...

The sylables are very sharp and don't sound natural... but I'm sure my Japanese singing isn't perfect either, so y'know... Call me close-minded if you want, but I listen to Obession and hear English lyrics... They've gotta be right because I sing it a lot and they always fit perfectly... So... yeah... I'm done O_O!

And... if I'm wrong (which is entirely likely ^_^) what the heck are they singing? It must be documented properly somewhere O_o!

Yeah, it does sound a bit confusing, but the entire song is in English. The
reason I know is that I have the CD Single and I looked at the lyrics from
the booklet. I think it's just the fact that you have a Japanese person
singing in English. It's good to know that someone reads my stuff ^_^

The Spatula
Guess you were right after all. I still don't hear it, but at least I know it's english, haha. I just figured since it sounded less than the # of syllables that were "translated," it was sung partially in Japanese. My mistake.

Yeah.. See-Saw's my favorite J-pop band. They're all girls, aren't they..?

Fake Wings was my favorite for a while, but it got old. Now I can't go a day without listening to Yasashii Yoake twice.. It reminds me of my girlfriend...

Another thing I like about See-Saw is that they have great English accents.. Unlike many Japanese singers in English, they actually pronounce "L"s well.

I was just thinking that today (listening to my OST for the umpteenth time since I got it a week ago). In most of the songs (excluding Obsession, LOL), I clearly understand the lyrics.

I'm so addicted to the .Hack music now that I simply can't stand listening my usually radio stations any more. Even my favorite bands just don't attract my attention the way they used to... *smile*

While we are on the subject of music, Amazon.com just beat their own delivery record by getting the latest .hack volume to my house in one day after notification (and I was using that free super shipping thing)! Haha, I am VERY impressed with the LIMINALITY soundtrack that was bundled! On top of that, the bonus Mini-Disc is nothing to scoff at. I mean, I can't rip the mp3s out of it, but I can at least play it. One Thousand and One Nights is very nice. I think the instrumental songs are overall the beter part of this soundtrack. The vocal songs are amazing, but the instrumental ones stand out more for me. Haha, I thought the violin was well-used, but wait until you hear the piano on some of these songs!

EDIT: The main song for LIMINALITY (called liminality, lol) also says "in the land of twilight." On top of that, it's put another strange phrase: "I will be there seekin' for liminality." First we were stuck figuring out twilight, but they've now added liminality. At least the first one had a meaning! What the hell is liminality? :twitch:

Iv noticed something about the songs.... not only are they longer, but there a bit different when you listen to them from the CDs. ilikepie just sent me "warp" (love that song) It its so much different from how they play it in the show, it has a cool guitar in the BG and the ending cuts off really cool like. Has anyone noticed this with other songs?

Yes, I have. I believe it was episode 4, where Tsukasa is running around with his guardian, and then they are watching the sun set. There's this nice melody when they are just standing there, and then the episode ends.

I've been trying to figure out what that song is. I know it's a brief violin thing, but it's really beautiful. Now, I hear that it's part of Yasashii Yaoke's full version (no wonder it's called "TV-edit"). I'm guessing that the songs are just in their full version, and sound weird. I mean, I would never have put that little violin piece and Yasashii Yaoke together!
