Heartless Me Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 I heard of this movie coming out or already out, but all i heard about it was a name and a little bit about it. can anyone tell me more? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Posthumous Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 Ooooh...I'm going to see this movie.I heard it was good, and it's got Colin Farrell in it, so it'll be good. It's very cool looking.
Where he can't hang-up or else he'll get kill.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Semjaza Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 Am I the only one that thinks this looks stupid? I originally saw the trailer for it a few months ago. Seemed good enough in theory. But really... First of all, isn't it obvious the guy doesn't have a gun? Even in the trailers they show the cops going as close as a few feet away from Colin in the booth. He is obviously holding nothing but a phone (and in a completely glass phone booth that any poorly trained monkey could see through all sides of. Yet, the cops still believe some raving slut on the street? And by the time this all goes down, isn't it rather obvious what sort of gun shot the man in the street? That is was some sort of rifle that obviously couldn't have even fit straight across in a phone booth for him to fire it, let alone put it where no one could possibly see it? The idea is decent, but it doesn't seem very thought through. A lot of people go "You're thinking too much!" But when a movie tries to play itself off as intelligent, I'd like to think it should make some sense and not be so glaring. Bleh. I might see it once it is on cable... but I'll save my money otherwise. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
SaiyanPrincessX Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 I heard of it a few months ago too. I think it looks pretty stupid but seeing as my brother wants to see it I probebly will. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Juu Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 I'm actually thinking about seeing it. I don't think it should be rated R, and rather moreova PG-13... I'm not very good at handling scary movies anyway, so I guess a not-as-thrilling movie would be nice. I mean, I'm still terrified after seeing Final Destination a few months ago, and most of my friends didn't think it was scary at all. Soo... ^^; Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Transtic Nerve Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 The movie was originall supposed to come out in the later months of 2002, but due to the Washington Sniper, the movie was pushed back... way back. It looks good to the point that it's unlike any other movie out there. It's original and suspecful... I won't pay to see it, but I'll see it eventually. Charles Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 I'm really interested in seeing the movie. I'll probably see it after I catch "A Man Apart." If memory serves me correctly, they release on the same day. The film looks like it's artistic and daring. I can't wait to see what methods they'll use to keep it interesting. Of course, the trailer highlights particularly tense moments. But, I want to see how they manage to keep it going for an hour and a half. So, yeah, the concept is really fresh. It's a nice break from the influx of war movies. After talking to Tony about it, I agree about the plot hole. In the trailer, the sniper mentions the size of the exit wound that the rifle will produce. It should be obvious that the woman wasn't shot with a concealable handgun. But, other than that one shortcoming, Phone Booth has considerable potential. It might actually be one of those movies with a "bad" ending. KittyLynn Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 It could be good, also very very stupid. Who knows, I'm going to see it to find out. Toodles. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Manic Webb Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 I'm with Semjaza on the incredibly blind cop ("Throw down your gun which seems to be suspiciously shaped like a phone!"), but I'm sure the movie has a whole lot more going for it than that. I mean, Speed didn't even take place entirely on the bus, so I'm sure this movie won't be nothing but "I'm going to shoot you in the phone booth... oooooooh!" TheShinje Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 Actually, it is going to be inside the phone booth the entire time! I remember reading about it a few years back when they decided to make it. It seemed like it's the kind of movie that would just drag on and on, but then again, Panic Room was more or less in the confines of a panic room. and that was still quite suspensful, so you never know. vegeta rocker Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 well ever since joel schumacher ruined the last two batmans i have had a bone to pick with him. The movie looks interesting yet so did sugar and spice and we all know how that turned out. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Semjaza Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 Panic Room was a mess too, I thought. Personally I found it incredibly boring, and I'm actually more interested in Phone Booth. Anyone who is diabetic (I am not, but a lot of friends of mine are) would know that the whole sequence involving that girl is impossible and is not what would ever happen. They messed up a lot of the terms too. You'd think they'd be able to get that right, diabetes isn't exactly uncommon lol. And yes, Schumacher ruins a lot of things. He did, however, do Lost Boys which I personally love to death... So I forgive a lot of it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Fly-T Posted April 4, 2003 Share Posted April 4, 2003 This movie seems pretty weak. I highly doubt I would have been "tempted" to answer the phone if it was ringing. It was on some movie(cant remember what the name of it is) when the phone was ringing someone picked it up, and the booth exploded. If it's going to be one of those life or death sit. movies, then at least give it adrenaline rush. Kinda like "Speed". Goodness, Standing for more than an hour in a phone booth while being held "hostage" by a derranged sniper. Speaking, of Speed, the plot resemsbles speed. It's like an allegory (sp?)in a way, where the guy in the phone booth is like the guy that tried to save everyone on t he bus. And, the sniper is like the guy who placed the bomb on the bus. spike speigel Posted April 5, 2003 Share Posted April 5, 2003 This really isn't the kind of movie I'm in to. It looks kind of boring, if you ask me. I mean, the movie really can't be that good if it all takes place in a phone booth. And who answeres pay phones when they ring, seriously? Well, I know I don't. OOC:don't pay attention to this Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JCBaggee Posted April 5, 2003 Share Posted April 5, 2003 Regarding the "missing gun dilemma"..
Colin Farrel was on "Late Night With Conan O'Brian" a few nights ago, and they showed a clip from phone booth that somewhat explains the problem with the gun. Colin's charachter has a pack of cigarettes and a cell phone in his pocket which is believed by everyone else to be a gun. Of course, he can't prove them wrong since he'll be shot... Anyhoo, the plot revolves around Colin's charachter spending a day seemingly screwing around, being unfaithful to his wife, etc. The incident in the phone booth probably won't happen until 30 min. - 1 hour into the movie, leaving plenty of time. Plus, you know there'll be a few minutes at the end for resolution and catching the sniper and whatnot.
All in all, sounds like a great movie. Can't wait to see this one. --Chris Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Juu Posted April 6, 2003 Share Posted April 6, 2003 *shakes head* I just saw the movie last night. He gets the phone call in the first ten minutes. The whole movie is about him being stuck in the phone booth. It's not scary at all, just a thriller. I personally loved it, though. It was pretty captivating, and it kept me wide awake the whole time. My rating... 8.6/10 ^^ I loved the part when
the officer asked him to get out of the phone booth, and he just said, "No! I like this phone booth! It's my own world in here!".
It was alot better than I thought. I didn't really think it would be as good either, but it was actually really good.
The hookers were annoying, though. >>;;
 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ThePikasElbow Posted April 7, 2003 Share Posted April 7, 2003 I saw it and I really liked it. The movie is a lean 81 minutes, so it doesn't drag and always keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you've only seen the previews, you most likely let logic take over and denounce almost everything, making the film seem stupid. Luckily, pretty much everything that you can think of to prove him innocent is spoken upon in the film. I expected there to be some major plot holes, but there weren't any. A good screenplay, good acting, and good directing makes this a good movie. I'm not sure about buying it on DVD yet since the whole point of the movie is to put you in suspense and I already know what happens, but maybe it'll be cheap and have some good extras.
