GuyYouMetOnline
I've decided to start a book discussion thread, and this seemed like the best place to put it. Basically, various books will be discussed. This thread will contain plot spoilers, so read at your own risk. The first book is the recently released Kaspar's Box by Jack L. Chalker. It's the conclusion to the Tales of the Three Kings trilogy, which concerns a mysterious solar system called the Three Kings, which is discovered durring humanity's decline. Nobody has ever returned after trying to get there, but ships have made it back. Mysterious gems, called Magi's Stones, are from this system and the main proof of it's existance. They cause strange reactions in the brain, and break apart if any analysis is tried. Eventually, the millitary finds it's way to the system, and the secrets of the Three Kings are revealed. I really liked this book, and was hooked from the beginning. Murphy was a great character, and I also liked the three girls. The whole demon-worshipping thing was a nice touch, and I also enjoyed the fact that the crew of the Stanley returned. I was a little dissapointed by the ending, though. What are your thoughts?

Dragonstar
:D Three times and goin' for four. Loved it, always will. Quite possibly the book that got me through high school, in a very round about way... meh, fave characters, Strider and Legolas. First read it way back in year 8, sooo, '98/'99. I remember one time, I was readin it at four in the morning, and it was where they first meet the Black Rider on the road to Bucklebury, I was pretty creeped out, I head something scratching behind me, I looked up and there was a huge spider about four inches from my head... :nervous: anyways, enough nostalgia from me. I love the movie too, but they cut too much out, It would've been nice to see Tom Bombadil. :D I've never heard of Tales of The Three Kings, but it sounds like an interesting read, *runs off to tell library to order it* :D
Vicky
Legolas is my fav too. I hate that stupid lil' gimley guy what ever he's called. And in the two towers, i don't get the part were the wizard comes back. I do think that legolas is weird when he sings to himself though... Dragonstar
:therock: aaah... It's complicated, um.. I'll have to explian later cos my sister's bein' a b***h. I don't really hate any of the characters, I only hate them if they're evil or just poorly thought out. meh.:D
GuyYouMetOnline
okay, that first one didn't get much intrest. Hopefully, this one will. The book is Midnight at the Well of Souls, also by Jack L. Chalker (Obviously I'm a Chalker fan). It is about a freighter captain called Nathan Brazil who must stop two opponents from reaching the Well of Souls. The world they are on is one you can't leave, and it changes them into new forms, makeing the task almost impossible. I really enjoyed this book. The true history of Nathan Brazil is extreamly clever. i especially enjoyed the run through Murnithel(I think that's how it's spelled), as well as Brazil's showdown with the Swarm Queen in Ivrom. And Brazil's change about halfway through the bok was extreamly well done.

GuyYouMetOnline
Baen Books recently reprinted it, so it should be availible at most bookstores, in the science fiction section.
