Here I plan to create a thread where ppl can read about new technology (not only pc-related) and can give ideas of how to improve our everyday life with new technology!

My first suggestion is going to school during the night and sleeping and doing h/w during the day. In the night I feel fresh and more 'motivated' to do work and during the day I can sleep more and maybe go out and do somethin fun. This idea would be great during the winter when the sun sets at 4pm and when I get home at 3:40 there is nothing to do. If school finishes at 3 am then you can go to a party or a club and party till sunrise then sleep etc...

The only way that would work is if you planned on molding the rest of your life to work at night. So many years of attending school at night would make you only able to function at night. Plus so many people like to party and hang out at night you wouldn't be able to do anything. I think that would be a horribly bad idea.

I think it woud be a very good idea for somebody to come up with a crystal data-storage device. It would be a cube or a sphere and work much the same way as a CD; read with a laser. Perhaps something simple like quartz.

Ehhh... Just dreaming.

I think we should genetically enfuse our human white blood cells with machines and program them to be stronger and able to fight all diseases, but thats just me.

On a more possible note, after I saw a two year old go on an outrage of swearing to her mother for not buying her a toy, I think that they should cut out all those M-rated tv shows and get a lot stricter on swearing and suggestive themes. :cussing:

the storage idea is cool but it would have to be either
a) amazingly compact
or
b) have a compact reading device-because the cube will have to spin in all directions very quickly.
the idea about about the rating of tv shows would be pretty crap
mainly because children learn to swear in school, their parents or the surroundings (environment).

keep posting ideas

Technology, eh? What about a hover board? That would be cool. It would be faster and easy to get places, and it wouldn't hard the environment unless we ran into a tree or something. :) Plus, people could use them at a younger age, as an alternative to driving a car. It wouldn't use that much energy on your part either. Maybe not a brand new idea, but it hasn't been invented yet...that we know of. o_O

Heh, it's fun to dream...I even made up some blueprints for a hover board when I was younger, not that it would actually work, but I think it was a pretty good idea. ;)

But with my little CSD (crystal storage device) it wouldn't spin. The laser would refract off the reflective parts of the crystal and therefore read different parts of the CSD.
Perhaps it coud be a sphere and spin. Your's is a good idea too.

I know that. I would just not like to accept the horrors of our own man kind and since the public (namely me) has traced part of a minor problem to tv shows, I would like to use that as a scapegoat and blame everything on it and say everything would be better if we just changed it. That CSD would be great if we could figure out how to store information in something other than 0 and 1 (like DVD's do).

I also think that they shouldn't sell cigaretts and make them illegal. If they don't, they should just legalize all drugs, tax the joy out of them, and let society kill themselves from sheer stupidity.

I think cigarettes are pointless, with drugs you get high, you're happy, everything is spinning around and its a great excuse to laugh at everything(many people have told me this and I have seen it, I dont take drugs so I dont really know). With cigarettes you get depressed, starve (because you loose your apetite) and they are just as bad as ganja, maybe even more.
Anyway...

Does anyone read a magazine called Stuff?

Some drugs are far more damaging than cigs.

Even pot has more cancer causing agents than cigs on a ratio of Blunt : Cig.
LSD can permanently damage all sorts of stuff in your body and Acid can severly damage your brain and stomach.
Coke can rot your nose away and cause cancer.
Meth(Also known as Speed) can do all sorts of nasty things to you, one of the worst being abnormal heart rhythms.
And I hope everyone know about Ecstacy.

Don't ever take drugs, man. They aren't all colors and laughing. There's also death and more death.

I say either legalize marijuana, or illegalize tobacco and alcohol. There's not one reason to not smoke marijuana that can't easily be exchanged with a hazard of drinking a glass of scotch and smoking a cigar. And since we all know that illegalizing alcohol and tobacco would only increase the crime-rate dramatically, legalizing marijuana seems like the way to go.

Either way, I don't smoke anything at all (asthma) and I only drink on New Years Eve.

I think someone should invent some sunglasses that show video-recorded messages people email to you, like in those sci-fi movies.

The hoverboard idea is cool if it can be something like the hovering skateboard from that game on PS2 (I cant remember the name). I too drew ideas and stuff like that when I was little but since I couldnt draw ( I still cant btw) I cant understand what these things on the pictures are(when I look at them now).
The glasses I've seen in the guiness book of records 1999 or 2000, but they werent like 3G ones but just used as a monitor to a palm-sized pc. Quite pointless and annoyingly uncomfortable I would imagine, since you can see the pc screen by only looking closely and if you dont you probably see straight trough them. :therock:
By the way:

"Some drugs are far more damaging than cigs."-DarkOrderKnight
I was talking about 'softer' drugs like class C or somethin.

Sounds creepy, to me. I rejected the idea of having corrective lazer eye surgery, so nothing in this world short of a death-punishable law would get me to get implants where an image is beamed directly into my retina.

My squeemishness aside, that idea doesn't sound too bad for the bold and daring.

The things I want invented have already been thought of, but are probably impossible -- namely transporters & replicators. If there were transporters, we could all visit each other whenever we wanted. And with replicators, we could have all the stuff we ever dreamed of. It would make money pretty obsolete, which is great.

I heard of this new microwave-type-thing that's going to come out -- only it doesn't use microwaves. It heats your food 4 times as fast, & uniformly, so that there aren't super hot & super cold spots. I wish they'd hurry up & come out with that. I get sick of stopping the microwave to stir my soup or rotate my pizza a ton of times.

the self-tuning instrument sounds cool but I am musically disabled and it wouldnt really benefit me.
the retina thing you said before...OUCH! It sounds painfull
the replicator would be cool but what if someone gets hold of plutonium or a Kalashnik?
have you all heard the idea of cell phones microwaving your brain?
Because the mobile phones operate by microwaves some scientists say that its like putting your head in a microwave, the microwaves heat up liquid in the head and microwave the brain when you are talking on it(with it against your head-ear).
WHAT DO U THINK?

Yes there is reason for concern about the microwaves of cell-phones. But the amplitude of the waves is considered safe on a general scale. Also, the waves are broadcast and recieved from the top of the antena on your phone. Only on some newer models do the antenas not extend past your head. Plus microwaves are very precise, they do not travel in sparce waves as thier name may suggest. But rather in direct beams and lines.
But the new technology I'm excited about is: "Plastic RAM". Its really hard to explain though, so I'll leave it to the masters. Go to popularscience.com to learn more.

I think it would be awesome if they created a device that could destroy MTV...my goodness, the world would such a happier place if there weren't shows like "the Real World" and "Sorority Life"
FINALLY! SOMEONE SEES IT MY WAY! I think that they have way too many of those reality TV shows filled with whiney teenage spoiled brats who are obsessed with "gettin' some". I think that we need a muck-raking media again who isn't biased and thinks before they say something.

That thing about cell phones cooking your brain is creepy. But at any point in time, we are being bombarded by radiowaves of various frequencies, so I don't think that one directly next to your head would cause any more damage. But I could be wrong :drunk:.

I would prefer not to have a retina implant or surgery because my extremely poor vision would show me a bunch of blurred scenes. That, and I am to much of a sissy to go through with the operation. And if someone could like "hack" into those things, that would be more sinister than taking candy from a baby!

I'm fine with what I have here now. I have my paper; I have my pen. That is enough.
But just think of the possibilities! That paper is eating up our tropical rainforests (scapegoat). Imagine that with something like hologram pads (I like startrek), the need for ink and paper would no longer exist! Or imagine a type of hardware where you stick a few pads to your forehead, you think, and it types. No more needing a keyboard!

That transporter thing would eat away the muscles in our legs so we are more lazy. But I like being lazy so I guess that's O.K. Replicators would end stuff like world hunger and lack of elements. It would be theroretically possible to replicate food since most of are food are just carbon compounds.

I'm supprised no one mentioned my machine immune system thing. :bawl:

It would be good to be immune to every disease!
I was watching a program today where they showed a perfume which when you put on and someone smells you they think you are lighter. For exmaple a woman weighing 75kg put it on and ppl said she probably weighs 50kg and they did a test live on TV and it worked on every single person, weird or what?

If you've seen Minority Report, you might remember the newspaper that the guy is reading on the train. You know, he's reading it and it says "News Flash" or whatever on the main page...and it's all animated.

That technology is actually possible.

I was watching a TV show which talked about future technology. They had a segment on this new type of paper. I forget what it's called, but it's like a very thin plastic. And it contains billions of little transistors or something (I can't remember what it was exactly).

But basically, it was like a sheet of paper where the picture on the paper could animate by a few frames.

The creators say that this could be expanded a lot in the future and made very cheap -- you could have newspapers where the pictures are animated, yet the paper isn't much thicker (and is still biodegradable).

Even more amazing, is that it is possible that this paper could actually connect remotely to the Internet (or some kind of communication beacon) and download the latest information. So basically, watch Minority Report...where Anderton is on the train and the guy's newspaper shows Anderton's picture. That technology is already being worked on right now.

That sounds cool but is it really neccessary, isnt it a bit over the top? Minority Report has a lot of futuristic stuff and gadgets which I am constantly hearing are being developed. That shows how good steven spielberg is?

Either how good he is, or how much he reads.

How about a nueral interface. Much like in The Matrix, but on a much smaller scale. Something that would plug into your temple or side of neck. You'd be able t control your computer through thought.
That would be fun and convienent. But then you'd realize how slow your computer actually is.

Strange that no one mentioned anything about cars... They've made a prototype for this really cool car that runs on water I think... I've seen pics in time(best inventions of 2002) It looks AWESOME, they say it could be ready for use in ten years or so.
