Does anyone out there know if the writers of Dragonball were playing on a second series to explain Goku's tail and trasformations? Or did Dragonball Z just kinda happen after Dragonball proved to be such a big hit?

I have no clue why, but I started thinking about this and cannot get it outta my head.

Dragon Ball Z was originally planned to follow up the Dragon Ball series evidence of this is shown during the last episode of Dragon Ball. However originally in the manga series it seemed that a second series for the manga wasn't planned mainly for the fact the story ended right after Goku beats Piccolo, and didn't cover the last 5 or 6 episodes of the Dragon Ball series.

Also in case this other questions pops in your head Dragon Ball GT originally was planned against Toriyama's wishes thanks to the greedy company of Toho who aired the Dragon Ball shows in Japan. However now he's placed a injunction so that they can't make anymore series against his wishes.

Also, Akira didn't intend to make Goku a Saiyan, or any Sayians at all. He said in an interview that he painted himself into a corner, about Goku being un-naturally strong, so he created the Goku being from an alien warrior race to get himself out of it.

Here what you really want to know.

Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball Z are the same thing. They're all Dragon Ball, as the entire manga was titled Dragon Ball. The Z was added by TOEI, not TOHO, TOEI Animation Stuidos. The Manga never had intervals in releases. The end of the Son Gokuu vs. Pikkoro Jr. battle, then Son Gokuu marrying Chi Chi, was released in 1989. Then about 5 months later I beleive it was, what you would know as "The Raditz Saga" was released, and contained the battle with Radditsu. That is when Son Gokuu's origins were explained. Toriyama-San never planned it to be like that, because at first Dragon Ball was only supposed to be a 1-Shot manga. It was supposed to only have 3 mangas and 13 episodes, but then the fan base was so large he continued it for Shonen Jump. Then after the battle with Pikkoro Jr, he decided to come up with a way to explain Son Gokuu. His best explanation was that he was from another planet.

And Rick Hunter, you also gave him false information. Toriyama-San didn't object to Dragon Ball GT. He just was tired of making Manga. He agreed to make the character design and the Planet Design. He then left the rest up to his Son and Toei Animation Studios, as they wanted to continue the series. They only made 64 episodes and put a permanent ending on the series. Toriyama-San did not place an injunction so they couldn't make anymore series. That is false. There continue to be many Fan Doujinshi in Nippon. Toriyama-San allows these mangas to still sell, as he is tired of Dragon Ball. He is re-releasing all 42 mangas with new covers, then locking it up forever., but GT and Doujinshis for the series will always exist. If anyone can produce enough money, make the doujinshi, get permission(nothing else, just permission), pay artist, and find a way to get TV Tokyo or TOEI to run it, then a new Dragon Ball series will air. But since that isn't going to happen and Dragon Ball GT Ended 6 years ago in Nippon, that isn't going to happen.
